- بيت العجائب أو قصر العجائب هو مبنى تاريخي في المدينة الحجرية، زنجبار. هو أكبر وأطول مبنى في المدينة الحجرية وتحتل مكانا بارزا في الواجهة البحرية في طريق ميزينجاني. يقع بيت العجائب بين القلعة القديمة و بيت الساحل (قصر السلطان السابق). وهو واحد من ستة قصور بنيت من قبل السلطان العماني برغش بن سعيد، ثاني سلاطين زنجبار، ويقال أنه يقع في موقع قصر ملكة زنجبار فطومة في القرن 17 بيت العجائب حاليا يضم متحف التاريخ والثقافة الزنجبارية والساحل السواحيلي. - The House of Wonders or Palace of Wonders (in Arabic: بيت العجايب Bayt al-ʿAjāʾib) is a landmark building in Stone Town, Zanzibar. It is the largest and tallest building of Stone Town and occupies a prominent place facing the Forodhani Gardens on the old town's seafront in Mizingani Road. It is located between the Old Fort and the Palace Museum (and former Sultan's Palace). It is one of six palaces built by Barghash bin Said, second Sultan of Zanzibar, and it is said to be located on the site of the 17th-century palace of Zanzibari queen Fatuma. Si trova sul lungomare di Mizingani Road. Deve la denominazione di "palazzo delle meraviglie" al fatto di essere la più grande struttura architettonica di Zanzibar e di essere stato il primo edificio dell'isola a essere dotato di energia elettrica; fu anche il primo edificio in tutta l'Africa orientale a essere dotato di ascensore. Fu edificato nel 1883 come edificio cerimoniale per volere del sultano Barghash bin Said, nella stessa posizione in cui in precedenza sorgeva la residenza della regina zanzibari Fatuma. Fu usato come residenza reale (dai sultani Hamoud bin Mohammed e Ali bin Hamud), palazzo del governo (dal 1911 fino alla rivoluzione di Zanzibar del 1964) e sede del partito di governo Chama Cha Mapinduzi (dal 1976). Il palazzo venne bombardato dalla marina britannica durante la guerra anglo-zanzibariana (1896). La struttura principale subì solo danni minori, ma il faro che era posizionato in cima all'edificio fu distrutto; venne in seguito sostituito da una torre dell'orologio. (it)
