- Ivan Nikolaevich Gorozhankin (1848-1904) was a Russian botanist. His early education was in his home town of Voronezh, where he attended secondary school (1858–1865) before being admitted to the Law School at the Imperial Moscow University, before changing his enrollment to the natural sciences in 1871 and graduating with a thesis on Tropaeolaceae. After graduation, he continued working at the university, being appointed to the chair of botany in 1874. He founded the Moscow School of Botanical Morphology. As Director of the Lomonosov Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Biology at Imperial Moscow University (1875–1902) he oversaw considerable expansion with new buildings and laboratories. Among his positions was vice president of the Moscow Society of Natural Sciences. His herbarium collections are stored in the Herbarium of Moscow University. The standard author abbreviation Gorozh. is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name. (en)

Estudió primero en la escuela secundaria de Voronej de 1858 à 1865. Luego ingresó en la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Estatal de Moscú, graduándose en 1871, con una tesis sobre la familia de Tropaeolaceae Después de graduarse, trabajó en la Universidad de Moscú, donde ocupó desde el año 1874 la cátedra en el Departamento de Botánica. En 1875 se convirtió en profesor y fue habilitado seis años después. Fue el fundador de la escuela de morfología botánica de Moscú (Московская морфолого-ботаническая школа), continuando a partir de numerosos profesores universitarios(Московское общество испытателей природы). Desde 1875 hasta 1902, fue director del Jardín Botánico Lomonósov de la Facultad de Biología de la Universidad Estatal de Moscú. Se construyeron nuevos edificios con laboratorios, lo que le permite llevar a cabo experimentos y enseñar a lo largo del año. (es)
