- Els leeis (en llatí laeaei, en grec antic Λαιαῖοι) eren una tribu dels peons de Macedònia, que al segle iv aC vivien al costat dels agrians, una altra tribu dels peons al llarg del curs del riu Estrimó, a la vora occidental de Tràcia. No es van incorporar a les altres tribus peònies ni al Regne dels odrisis, i vivien com un regne independent fora de les fronteres d'aquests països. Segons Tucídides, els leeis, els agrians i altres tribus tràcies es van unir al rei odrisi Sitalces en la seva campanya contra Perdicas II de Macedònia. No fueron incorporados al reino odrisio ni a Peonia, permaneciendo como una tribu independiente fuera de las fronteras de ambos reinos. Según Tucídides, los leeos junto con los agrianos, los díos, y otras tribus, se unieron al rey odrisio Sitalces en su fallida campaña contra Pérdicas II de Macedonia. Las monedas acuñadas por los leeos han sido consideradas de manufactura rudimentaria e imitaciones de las emitidas por otras tribus peonias vecinas. Una moneda típica lleva la inscripción LAIAI (leeos) en el anverso, y a Pegaso en un cuadrado lineal doble en el reverso. - The Laeaeans (/liːˈiːənz/; Ancient Greek: Λαιαῖοι) were a Paeonian tribe who in the 4th century BC lived adjacent to the Agrianes, another Paeonian tribe, along the upper course of the Strymon river, at the western edge of Thrace. They were not incorporated into the Odrysian state or the Paeonian state, remaining an independent tribe outside the borders of those kingdoms. According to Thucydides, the Laeaeans, along with the Agrianes, the Thracian Dii, and other tribes, joined Sitalkes in his unsuccessful campaign against Perdiccas II of Macedon. The coins issued by the Laeaeans are judged to be of crude workmanship, and seem to be imitations of finer minted coins issued by other neighboring Paeonian tribes such as the Derrones. A typical coin bears the inscription LAIAI (Laeaeans) on the obverse, and a Pegasus in a double linear square on the reverse. It is unclear whether or not the Laeaeans were conquered by Philip II or Alexander the Great, although their neighbors are recorded by historians such as Arrian as client kings. (en)
