- Lester Jesse ("L. J." or "Dick") Dickinson (October 29, 1873 – June 4, 1968) was a Republican United States Representative and Senator from Iowa. He was, in the words of Time magazine, "a big, friendly, white-thatched Iowa lawyer." In early 1936 he dreamed of winning the presidency. However, the only race he would enter that year would be for his own seat in the Senate, and he would lose it.
Han avlade sedan 1899 juristexamen vid State University of Iowa (numera University of Iowa). Dickinson besegrade kongressledamoten i republikanernas primärval inför kongressvalet 1918. Alf Landon vann nomineringen lätt men förlorade presidentvalet stort. Dickinson själv förlorade senatsvalet 1936 mot demokraten Clyde L. Herring. Dickinson utmanade sittande senatorn Guy Gillette i senatsvalet 1938 men förlorade igen knappt. (sv)
