- Nicola Maria Pugno (born 4 January 1972) is an Italian scientist, engineer, physicist, with phds in fracture mechanics and biology, a full professor of solid and structural mechanics at the University of Trento and of materials science at the Queen Mary University of London. He has more than 500 publications in international journals and, for his pioneering contributions in nanoscale mechanics, bio-inspired materials, fracture mechanics and adhesion, he received in 2017 the A. A. Griffith Medal and Prize. He is editorial board member of several international journals and has been appointed as the first field chief editor of Frontiers in Materials. Since 2011, he has received several grants from the European Union within the excellence science pillars as well as for high-tech transfer. (en)
