- Oenophilia (/ˌiːnəˈfɪliə/ EE-nə-FIL-ee-ə; Greek) is a love (philia) of wine (oinos). In the strictest sense, oenophilia describes a disciplined devotion to wine, accompanying strict traditions of consumption and appreciation. In a general sense however, oenophilia simply refers to the enjoyment of wine, often by laymen. Oenophiles are also known as wine aficionados or connoisseurs. They are people who appreciate or collect wine, particularly grape wines from certain regions, varietal types, or methods of manufacture. While most oenophiles are hobbyists, some may also be professionals like vintners, sommeliers, wine merchants, or one who tastes and grades wines for a living. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the earliest occurrence of the word oenophile was in 1865 in Culture of the Vine and Wine Making, an English translation of a French book by Jules Guyot. The word oenophilia was initially primarily used in contexts of excessive drinking, and in its earliest occurrence in 1908, spelled oinophilia. It became common in the wine lexicon in 1977 when Shirley Copperman used it for her new bring-your-own-wine restaurant she and her husband dubbed "Oenophilia", located on the upper West Side of Manhattan. A reviewer in a local paper, The Westsider, wrote about the debut: "If the name suggests a rare disease you wouldn't want to catch, a sign in the window informs you that you may already have it. 'Oenophilia', it says, 'is an affliction of the senses characterized by intense cravings for good food and service and vintage wines served in a tasteful, comfortable setting at reasonable prices.'" The reviewer from The Village Voice wrote in 1977: "Oenophilia. No, not a social disease. It's the sensual orientation towards the pleasures of fine food and wine, and the name of a spiffy new bistro for elegant gourmandizing....'" (en)

- Enófilo é a pessoa que se dedica profissionalmente ou por prazer a conhecer e estudar sobre os vinhos. Enófilo é diferente de Enólogo, pois este é o profissional graduado que cuida da produção de vinhos exclusivamente. O enófilo é o amante, o apreciador de vinhos, aquele que mais do que gostar de beber vinho tem prazer em estudar sobre o assunto e buscar informações e conhecimento sobre o tema. O engenheiro químico José Osvaldo Albano do Amarante, especialista em vinhos e professor de gastronomia, define que a pessoa que deseja ser um enófilo deve praticar sempre três "ações fundamentais": - Ler: informar-se sobre vinhos em livros, revistas e sítios especializados; - Beber: conhecer e degustar vinhos de variadas procedências e de vários tipos e estilos, ainda que não sejam do tipo preferido do enófilo; - Viajar: visitar regiões produtoras de vinho, conhecer vinhedos e vinícolas e outros locais ligados à cultura do vinho, como museus, restaurantes e cidades. В строгом смысле слова, энофил — человек, посвятивший себя изучению вина и придерживающийся строгих традиций в его потреблении и оценке. Энофилом также называют человека, являющегося поклонником вина или его знатоком — коносьером. Энофилы — это люди, которые высоко ценят и коллекционируют вино, в частности, виноградные вина из определённых винодельческих районов и даже местностей или определенные сорта вин или же вина, произведённые определённым способом. Хотя для большинства энофилов энофили́я — хобби, но немало среди них и таких, которые являются профессионалами: виноторговцы, оптовые продавцы вин, сомелье, дегустаторы и оценщики вин, зарабатывающие этим на жизнь. Для энофилов создаются специальные энотеки, где кависты (продавцец-консультант вина) расскажут о букете, аромате, вкусе и послевкусии, дадут попробовать вина из разных стран, а также расскажут об истории, географии и гастрономических связях выбранных напитков. Значение энотек для энофилов можно сравнить со значением хорошей книжной коллекции для библиофилов. В последние годы энотеки появились и в России. Также для энофилов организуются специальные туристические поездки, так называемые «винные туры», в регионы и страны, где производятся самые изысканные вина и известные марки вин. Такие поездки скорее являются путешествиями в иную культуру, так как знакомят с высокой культурой вина и традициями потребления вин в этих регионах и странах. Например, в Крыму самым большим туристическим центром является Массандра, также туристов принимают Новый Свет, Солнечная Долина, Инкерман. Ещё одним из таких туров является поездка по знаменитому 60-километровому туристическому маршруту по винодельческим хозяйствам французской провинции Бургундия. (ru)
