- Pietro Frosini (9 August 1885 – 2 September 1951) was one of the first famous "stars of the accordion." He was born in Catania, Sicily, in 1885 and began to play the chromatic button accordion at the age of six. In 1905 he emigrated to San Francisco and was discovered by a talent scout for the Orpheum Vaudeville Circuit. Frosini made one of the first accordion recordings on a cylinder record for Edison in 1907 and made his first Victor recording in 1908. He traveled extensively on the vaudeville circuit in America and abroad and even performed for the King of England. On the vaudeville circuit, Frosini met and became friends with another great accordionist, Guido Deiro. After seeing the great success Deiro had with his audiences, Frosini adopted some of Deiro's methods: (1) he began playing popular music along with classical and operatic selections, and (2) he pasted a dummy piano accordion keyboard over his buttons, as audiences wanted to hear the more novel and unfamiliar piano accordion. Frosini gave up vaudeville in 1932 when the "talkies" closed most vaudeville companies; he then became a staff accordionist for WOR radio in New York, a position he held until his death in 1951. Throughout his career, he performed, taught, composed and arranged music for the accordion. He wrote more than 200 original compositions for the instrument. Today there is a "Frosini Society" based in Sweden which was established in 1984 by Swedish accordionist Lars Ek. (en)

Han utvandrade till USA 1903. Frosini började redan som barn spela dragspel och studerade i sin ungdom både kornett och piano vid konstkonservatoriet i Catania på Sicilien och Milanos musikkonservatorium. En dragspelare från Catania lärde honom den svåra bälgskakningskonsten; en framkallning av tremolo genom korta, snabba, in och ut-rörelser med bälgen, vilken han senare utvecklade till fulländning. 1905 gjorde han sin debut i Fresno i Kalifornien och blev en av de största vaudeville-artisterna med bälgskakning som specialitet. 1914 uppträdde Frosini på Palace Theatre i Connecticut och träffade där sin blivande fru Alfride Larsen, en dansk invandrare med framgångar inom teatern. De blev genast förälskade och Alfride valde, efter en tid, att sluta inom teatern för att istället ta hand om sin älskade, Frosini, vars hälsa ofta var dålig. 1932 slutade Frosini med vaudeville-framträdanden, på grund av sin hälsa, och började istället framträda i radio och undervisa på sitt instrument. Nästan varje morgon kunde man höra Frosini spela på radiostationen WOR i New York, tillsammans med John Gamblings Orkester. Radioprogrammet kallades John Gamblings Musical Clock Show. En av Frosinis mest framstående elever hette Maddalena Belfiore. 18 år gammal studerade hon för "dragspelets trollkarl" vid Juilliard School of Music och Frosini uppkallade också en komposition efter henne; tarantellan Bel Fiore. Maddalena var 1971-1972 ordförande för dragspelsförbundet A.A.A, American Accordionists' Association. Frosini använde ett dragspel med och komponerade cirka 200 stycken för dragspel och några stycken för piano. Bland de mest kända kan nämnas: "Jolly Caballero", "Hot Points", ett arrangemang på "Carneval i Venedig", "Olivblommor", "Genom Parken", "Rag i D moll", "Coquette", "Dizzy Accordion", "Silver Moon", "Svensk italiensk mazurka", "Vårserenad", "La Mariposita" med flera.
