- Trio Da Kali es un grupo de música griot de Malí formado por tres miembros: Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté (voz), Lassana Diabaté (balafón) y Mamadou Kouyaté (ngoni). Este último es el hijo del maestro de ngoni Bassekou Kouyate. Da Kali significa 'hacer una promesa', en este caso a su herencia musical, la de los Mande jelis (linajes hereditarios) que se remonta a la época de Sunjata Keita, fundador del gran imperio de Malí a principios del siglo XIII. El trío colaboró con el cuarteto de cuerda estadounidense Kronos Quartet con el que grabaron un álbum premiado, Ladilikan (World Circuit BMG). El álbum incluye arreglos de dos temas de la cantante de gospel estadounidense Mahalia Jackson, así como piezas importantes del repertorio de Mande jeli como "Sunjata" y la canción de amor "Tita". - Trio Da Kali is a griot music group from Mali constituted of three members: Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté (vocals), Lassana Diabaté (balafon) and Mamadou Kouyaté (ngoni). Hawa is the daughter of a griot Kassé Mady Diabaté. The latter is the son of the Ngoni master Bassekou Kouyate. Da Kali means 'to give a pledge' – in this case to their musical heritage, that of the Mande jelis (hereditary lineages) which dates back to the time of Sunjata Keita, founder of the great Mali empire in the early 13th century. The trio collaborated with the American string quartet Kronos Quartet with whom they recorded an award-winning album, Ladilikan (World Circuit BMG). The album includes arrangements of two tracks by American gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, as well as important pieces from the Mande jeli repertoire such as "Sunjata" and the love song "Tita". The two groups toured together in many cities across the world. (en)
