Build Your Own Jacob's Ladder

WARNING:  This tutorial deals with some dangerous elements which include high voltage electricity.  Death inducing high voltage, kids.  Build this at your own risk or better yet find a pro who knows their way around electricity to build one for you.

The Jacob's Ladder prop is the quintessential item for any mad scientist lab set.  It almost doesn't seem right for a mad scientist not to have one sparking in the background as he brings the dead back to life or builds his army of killer robots.  So here is a neat tutorial on how to build your very on Jacob's Ladder.

For those searching for a safer way to build a Jacob's Ladder should considering building one without any electric parts and just adding the rising spark effect in post using After Effects or a similar program.

Prop Inspiration: Gingerdead Man 3

Dave Lowe, who is an amazing and highly creative prop designer, had the unique opportunity (and challenge) to create a few props for the Full Moon movie, GINGERDEAD MAN 3.
