Sideways (RID)
From Transformers Wiki
The name or term "Sideways" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Sideways (disambiguation). |
- Sideways is an Autobot first seen in the Robots in Disguise continuity family.
Sideways was recruited into the Autobot army on Cybertron around the time that Fortress Maximus was uncovered on Earth, and modified his body to resemble a Terran sports motorcycle, facilitating the speed with which he performs many of his duties. Conscientious and ninja-like, Sideways maintains a mysterious silence about himself, expressing only a desire to quickly engage the enemy and then return to Cybertron (presumably from Earth, given his alt-mode).[1]

Fiction
Ask Vector Prime
In Viron 102.0 Beta, he served in the Elite Guard. Vector Prime warned us that we don't really want to know much more about him than that. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/09/22
TransTech
One incarnation of Sideways was a dimension-hopping serial liar, who originated in the Viron cluster before traveling through Aurex and a number of other universal clusters. At one point, he infiltrated Axiom Nexus and kidnapped Vector Prime, hijacking his column with Axiom Nexus News to make fun of you for being obsessed with minor trivia. He was eventually located by the TransTech, but managed to escape by powerlinking with Rook and using his Dimensional Interfacer to flee.
Toys
Robots in Disguise (2001)
- Sideways vs. Axer (Mega, 2002)
- Takara release date: May 30, 2002
- The Robots in Disguise Sideways toy is a yellow and black redeco of the Microman: LED Powers toy Mach Speeder, itself a retool of Generation 2 Road Rocket, transforming into a Yamaha GTS1000A racing motorcycle with a light-up rear wheel suspension/buzzsaw weapon. Of note is that Sideways is, rather unusually, cast entirely from black plastic except for the transparent portions, with all other colors being paint.
- He was only available in a Mega-class two-pack with Axer. This set was a Walmart exclusive in the US released in April of 2002, and a Toys"R"Us exclusive "USA Edition" in Japan in May.
- This mold was also used to make Microman Hyper Speeder and Robotmasters Road Rocket. The original mold was going to be used to make Laser Cycle Jazz in Generation 2, but the line was cancelled before the toy hit full production.
