Liverpool demo against Israeli attack on Gaza - and BBC coverage

Report by Jeremy Hawthorn, Liverpool Friends Of Palestine
Published: 19/11/12

Over 200 gathered on Friday evening (16th) outside the BBC Radio Merseyside building in Liverpool to protest against Israel’s attack on the people of Gaza.

The demonstration was called at short notice by Liverpool Friends of Palestine and Merseyside Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Speakers were called from local organisations including the Mosque and Merseyside Jews for Peace and Justice. They saluted the resistance of the people of Gaza to the latest attacks and called for better coverage of these events in the British media. The role of the BBC in spreading Israeli propaganda was hghlighted: it had taken nearly 24 hours to report the death of the 11-month-old son of one of its own employees in an Israeli air strike. A letter was handed in to the BBC news editor calling for more impartial reporting.

Liverpool Socialist Singers also contributed with the song ’In Gaza Tonight’.
