2022 Legislative Accomplishments
LEGISLATION
In 2022, the Governor signed nine of my bills into law, instituting a ban on scholarship displacement, mandating the development of plans to increase the state’s urban tree canopy coverage, and increasing access to quality healthcare products for all, amongst others.
Here is more information on my priority legislation:
AB 288 – The California Ban on Scholarship Displacement: makes college more affordable for low-income students and DREAMERS by prohibiting the practice of scholarship displacement in California.
AB 1845 – Accelerating Drought-resilient Water Projects: enables The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) to use alternative project delivery methods to design and construct vital drought-resilient projects.

AB 1871 – Vehicle History Report False Facts: increases consumer protections for vehicle owners by requiring vehicle history report providers to remedy errors in a timely manner.
AB 2251 – Tree Canopy Strategic Plan: requires the state to complete a strategic plan to achieve a 10% increase of tree canopy cover in urban areas by 2035.

AB 2482 – Wellness Vending Machine Pilot Program: establishes a pilot program at California higher education institutions to make wellness products more readily available for students.

Budget Allocations
I secured $21 million of funding for infrastructure projects and vital regional services in and around the district, including funding for parks, open space, fire education and mitigation, and resilience projects. This includes:
- $10 million to convert the Puente Hills Landfill into a new Regional Park;
- $8.5 million to the City of Pico Rivera to renovate Rio Hondo Park;
- $1.3 Million to the Puente Hills Habitat Preservation Authority for enhanced park ranger services;
- $500,000 to the City of Whittier for lighting infrastructure for the Murphy Ranch Little League Baseball Diamonds;
- $500,000 for the Los Angeles County Fire Department for new heli-hydrant and retrofits to automatic fill valves located in the cities of Whittier, Diamond Bar, and the San Gabriel Valley;

- $200,000 to the City of South El Monte for the renovation of new Temple Park facilities;
Moreover, I secured an additional $61.4 million to establish an Adult Day Services: COVID-19 Mitigation and Resilience Grant. This will provide competitive grants to licensed adult day health care centers, licensed adult day programs, or programs of all-inclusive care for the elderly sites to improve the health, safety, and well-being of vulnerable at-risk older adults and people with disabilities through safe access to in-center congregate services.
