Introduction Frequently, construction projects bring together people of different opinions, languages, beliefs and cultures for the purpose of completing a task. The study area, Portharcourt, is the capital of Rivers State in the South-South region of Nigeria and, by virtue of it being the state capital, experiences an influx of people with diversities from the different local government areas. Rivers State is made up of twenty-three (23) local government areas with different languages, cultures, opinions and beliefs. During construction Projects, Team members interact with each other in the course of carrying out their assigned Tasks and responsibilities. Conflict may arise due to the above-mentioned differences in the course of their interaction. Conflicts can be defined as "any conflict of interests, goals, or priorities involving individuals, groups, or organizations; or non-conformance to requirements of a task, operation, or process" (Acharya & Im, 2006). In addition, Conflict can be seen as an occasion where a person or group of people feel negatively affected by another. Conflicts in traditional and integrated project procurement procedures were examined by Dada, M. O. (2012) in the Nigerian construction sector. The current analysis closes a gap in the literature by illuminating why disputes arise in Nigerian building projects, low morale, mistrust, communication issues, ambiguous requirements, rework, and conflicts. Additionally, evidence indicates that disagreements must be controlled (i.e., kept within acceptable limits) to maximize their functional results. According to previous research, there are greater hazards associated with construction projects than there are with initiatives in other industries. Conflicts consistently result in dysfunctional projects. According to empirical evidence, project participants have an important influence on the project's success. Therefore, a breakdown in communication between project participants results in low performance. Nasir and Khamid (2013) say that the important fact remains that the construction Industry is well known for its high level of inter-personal and inter-organizational conflict. Although there are different types of conflicts, for the purpose of this paper, we are restricted to inter-personal conflict.

A mixed-method approach was adopted, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data collection. The study found that differences among team professionals were the major cause of conflict in construction projects. In addition, it was further revealed that conflict mainly occurs at the post-contract stage (the construction Phase). From the analysis of data collected, the most frequently adopted management strategy for conflict resolution within the study area was "Negotiation and Re-negotiation." More so, the "Definition of roles and responsibilities" ranked highest. The study concluded that the major cause of interpersonal conflict is Differences among team members. Hence, there should be clearly defined roles and responsibilities and strict adherence to rele...
