Case study building was chosen from Safranbolu and construction datas were getting from different bibliography for receiving more informational data about their traditional construction technology. The traditional Turkish house construction technology against the seismicity was researched by concentrating the timber skeleton and its relation to the seismic forces that affect the structural behavior. The aim of this study was to understand the seismic precautions and seismic weakness of the traditional Turkish house structures that were done in the previous times.

Therefore, traditional unreinforced masonry houses in Adana city and their structural qualifications are essential to provide information on these buildings, which will be of value to researchers and practitioners, policymakers, and disaster managers. Therefore, one of the traditional houses was examined by identifying the construction details, damage, and collapse analysis in the Tepebağ settlement. At the end of the study, the construction details and their description could be added to the literature. In addition, the rule of art was used for interpreting the crack, damage, and predicted structure collapse scenario. Working on the rule of art was not enough separately to identify the collapsed analysis of the building. Besides, engineering applications and calculations are the other critical scientific aspects for determining the collapsed scenario. However, the rule of art is efficient for ar...

The aim is to verify the contribution of these devices to the structural behavior of the buildings under seismic actions. The two case studies: Gazi Mihal Bath and Ismail Bey Bath, which are the Ottoman bath buildings, constructed in 15th century, abandoned and partially ruined were examined. The case study bath structures and the methodological approach were taken from the PhD thesis in “Politecnico di Milano”. The methodology for those study buildings was adapted to static collapse analysis of the timber tie reinforced masonry. The paper concludes with the interpretation of the behavior of the two masonry buildings according to the presence of timber tie beams.

Anatolian architecture reveals many different construction styles imported by nomad craftsman. The craftsman brought these construction styles from remote areas for the ever growing needs of the Ottoman Empire. Some of the traditional structures were constructed in cities that were in high seismic areas. The masonry walls were the main structural parts of the buildings which were naturally resistant to lateral forces. The whole structures of the buildings, as well as the walls, were affected by seismic forces. The collapse of the wall structures can be associated with many factors that include the type of stone as well as the forces that were applied to the structure and the materials used for joining the elements. From that point of view, the research question of this paper was to determine the evidence for traditional wall construction technology intended to withstand...

The structural failures of stone material causes failures on structural elements such as lintels, walls, arches, vaults and domes. Degradation of stone walls can be associated with many different factors such as the type of stone, as well as the forces that are applied to the materials for combining the stones together. Mortar and ties made up of brick and timber were used in traditional Turkish bath structures for preventing them from the horizontal forces. Horizontal forces are seismic forces that are generally the main reasons for the degradation of masonry wall structures. Structural degradation of the historical masonry walls of the baths occured mainly because of the lack of timber tie beams inside the walls. With time the timber tie beams slowly decayed and released the masonry. The structure had been become weak from the horizontal and seismic forces. In this study, the historical Turkish bath structures during t...
