Objective: Objective: Objective: Objective: Objective: To find out the effect of fluoridated toothpaste and mouth rinse on titanium surface topography Methodology: Methodology: Methodology: Methodology: Methodology: Thirteen discs of commercially pure titanium with dimensions 6 mm diameter and 4 mm thickness were made and polished. The specimens were divided into 5 groups based on the treatments viz. Group A (Fluoride paste + toothbrush), Group B (Immersion in fluoride mouthrinse), Group C (Immersion in fluoride mouthrinse + toothbrush), Group D (Immersion in 0.2% sodium fluoride solution) and Group E (Distilled water + toothbrush). The discs were subjected to brushing with fluoride toothpaste using a customised brushing simulator for an accelerated period of 2 years. The immersion test was conducted by immersing the discs in fluoride mouth rinse for 24 hours (accelerated 2 years). One disc was immersed in sodium fluoride solution for 24 hours and this served as control. Surface topography was evaluated at baseline (pretreatment) and post-treatment, using a contact profilometer in order to obtain the mean roughness values. The mean difference in Ra value (μm) observed in group A was 0.0206±0.002, group B 0.0257±0.033, group C 0.0766±0.053, group D 0.0197±0.016 and group E was 0.011±0.0024 Conclusion: Conclusion: Conclusion: Conclusion: Conclusion: Exposure to mouthwash with fluoride concentration of 0.2%w/v does not affect titanium per se; but brushing with fluoride containing toothpaste affects titanium roughness.
