Th e audio-anthropology should be understood as application of digital audio technologies relating to recording, editing, arranging, listening and publishing: a) cultural sonic manifestations, b) audio-representations. In other words, the audio-anthropology is the audio-production of anthropological knowledge. As an alternative way of „doing discipline” the audio-anthropology is the result of so called auditory turn which had raised the question of the authoritarianism of Eye – fundamental and irrefutable organ of insight into the socio-cultural reality. Practice of sounded anthropology casts doubt on oculocentric model of anthropological knowledge and leads to appreciation of sonic phenomenon and practices in a social life.

The problem is set beside ethnographic reseach carrying out in Polish localities situated between the A2 motorway and the national road no. 92 - on the section between Bolewice and Boczow. Field studies are conducted within project „Moving modernizations. Influence of motorway A2 on local cultural landscapes” financed by The National Science Center. In this article I consider the research situation where the mobility category as the theory is not central, but remains empirically observed phenomena. Although the flow and transit are clearly present in studied societies (govern varying micromobilities) doesn’t explain adequately its everyday life. Theoretical assumptions realiting to the mobility and movement became blurred. The paradigmatic concept of mobility is questionable primarily because of ...

It is based on the assumption of acoustemology and field recording method. Data was gathered during research within truck drivers working for Western European freight companies and who inhabit cabs of their tractors units. Research corresponds with a current trend of anthropology of sound that consider audio-representations as a counterfactual way of production of anthropological knowledge. On the methodological level the main goal of my study was to transgress academic visuality. To accomplish this purpose I have decided to experience an ethnographic fieldwork through sound.

" – he writes (Geertz 1973: 19). In this volume we would like to introduce an another formula: What does ethnographer do? – he or she is in constant move. To be much less ambiguous: ethnographer drives a car. He or she uses motorways, roads, and parking spaces. He or she is a consumer of petrol/gas stations, car washes, roadside bars or restaurants and sometimes motels. Finally, he or she is a user of road sings, traffi c lights, telephone booths and so on. For a discipline whose central professional rite of passage is fi eldwork identifying as a permanent movement between " orbis interior " and " orbis exterior " , there has been little a self-consciousness about the cultural consistency of this movement and its consequences. Taking it into consideration, presented volume can be comprehended as an attempt to deal with the issues of movement, notions of place and space, car cultures, cultural landscapes of road, roadsides and motorway, and above all cultural dimensions of social (local and global) practices and mechanisms connected with contemporary means of mobility.
