This study underlines the major components of a Smart City and presents in a comprehensive way what strategies are to be used, by putting in the spotlight one of the best examples of a city which implemented this framework: Cluj-Napoca. With contributors from the academic to the business sector, and including the citizens and their needs, this city in Romania managed to implement projects which helped it to become first in rankings of business openness, safety and quality of life. The conclusions present the significant impact of the Smart City concept, and the focus authorities should have for the involvement of citizens in the strategic decisions and long term vision of the municipality development.

Previous studies of the relationship between the compliance and organizational performance have found a weak ling. In this study we constructed a Corporate Governance Index based on the “Apply or Explain” reports of the listed companies on the BSE. We showed that the Index is significant and negatively correlated with firm performance measured using ROA and ROE as dependent variables. Also the index proved to be significantly correlated with the size of the board of directors.
The present paper analyses the environmental behavior of hotel establishments located in Bra?ov C... more The present paper analyses the environmental behavior of hotel establishments located in Bra?ov County in order to determine the potential existence of a relationship between hotels’ proactive environmental strategy and their competitiveness. Also, this study investigates the type of environmental management strategy (reactive or proactive) among different categories of hotels in the region mentioned above. In addition, the paper discusses both conceptual and practical implications at the management level in order to improve hotel operations in terms of environmental protection. Our findings suggest that analyzed hotels from Bra?ov County focus on a proactive environmental strategy and it favors organizational competitiveness.

European Union gives to its member states the opportunity to use European funds to invest in the fields that needs to be improved in order to reach the social and economic cohesion. Human resources development is one of these fields. This paper is going to analyze the capacity of Romanian universities to use European funds, given by contracted projects financed through Sectoral Operational Programme Human Resources Development (SOPHRD) 2007-2013. A comparison between the universities that managed to sign a European financing contract will be made, from two different perspectives: the number of projects contracted and the contracted value.
The competitiveness and performance of hotels depends on their innovation activity, that’s why ma... more The competitiveness and performance of hotels depends on their innovation activity, that’s why managers have to focus on the necessity of implementing and integrating information and communication technologies in their businesses. The purpose of this paper is to compare the managerial practices focused on information and communication technology in two counties of Romania: Cluj and Braoov. This article presents the findings of a survey among 95 hotels and illustrates that, managers from Braoov, unlike those from Cluj, pay more attention to customer orientation. Thus, they have more opportunities to increase their performance and competitive advantage.

The region, demonstrates much more diversity in corporate governance than expected in generally similar transition economies. This research aims to focus on identifying the similarities and differences of corporate governance in these countries based on four research hypotheses formulated around two corporate governance variables: number of codes issued and years of distance from first code in the sample.
