Title:Equivalence between Markovianity and monotonic decrease of information
View PDFAbstract:The crucial feature of a Markov chain is its memoryless property. This, in particular, implies that any information about the state of a physical system, whose evolution is governed by a Markov chain, can only decrease as the system evolves. Here we show that such a decrease of information is not only necessary but also sufficient for a discrete-time stochastic evolution to be Markovian. Moreover, this condition is valid both in the quantum and classical settings.
