Title:Singlet Model Interference Effects and a 750 GeV Diphoton Resonance
View PDFAbstract:The potential existence of a 750 GeV diphoton resonance has important implications for fits to the Standard Model (SM) Higgs couplings and predictions for $Z\gamma$ and di-Higgs production. One of the simplest explanations is that the resonance is a scalar gauge singlet, S, with additional dimension-5 effective field theory (EFT) couplings to gauge bosons. If S is not forbidden by a symmetry from mixing with the Standard Model Higgs boson, the mixing will generate non-SM rates for Higgs production and decays. We examine a non-$Z_2$ symmetric scalar singlet model and show that a simultaneous fit to the 125 GeV Higgs boson couplings and to the properties of a 750 GeV resonance exhibit an interesting structure and cancellations of effects between the mixing and the new EFT interactions. Predictions include a stringent bound on the allowed mixing between the scalars.
