Title:The effect of interband electron scattering on thermoelectric properties of the novel topological compound CoSi
View PDFAbstract:Cobalt monosilicide and its solid solutions with Fe or Ni crystallize in B20 cubic noncentrosymmetric structure. These materials demonstrate not only good thermoelectric properties, but, as it was revealed recently, they have unconventional electronic topology. In this work, using first principle calculations, we investigate the scattering of charge carriers by phonons and point defects taking into account both interband and intraband transitions. We show that the experimentally observed rapid increase of the resistivity with substitution of iron for cobalt, and qualitative change of the resistivity temperature dependency, as well as the magnitude and temperature dependency of thermopower, are mainly connected with interband scattering of change carriers and strong energy dependence of relaxation time.
