Tripartite entanglement in $H \to ZZ,WW$ decays
Abstract: The decays of the Higgs boson produce a state in which the spins of the decay products and the orbital angular momentum ($L$) are highly entangled. We obtain the tripartite density operator, as well as reduced operators, for the decay into two weak bosons. For $H \to ZZ$ in the four-lepton final state we also estimate the statistical sensitivity at the Large Hadron Collider and future upgrades, us… ▽ More

Full quantum tomography of top quark decays
Abstract: Quantum tomography in high-energy physics processes has usually been restricted to the spin degrees of freedom. We address the case of top quark decays $t \to W b$, in which the angular momentum ($L$) and the spins of $W$ and $b$ are intertwined into a 54-dimensional $LWb$ density operator. The entanglement between $L$ and the $W$ or $b$ spin is large and could be determined for decays of single t… ▽ More

A closer look at post-decay $t \bar t$ entanglement
Abstract: Top pair production is ideally suited to observe post-decay entanglement, thus providing a novel test of quantum mechanics. Entanglement autodistillation from particle decays
Abstract: Particle decays do not constitute a spin "measurement" in the quantum-mechanical sense, but still modify the spin state, in particular for an entangled system. We show that for a spin-entangled pair of particles the entanglement of the system can increase after the decay of one particle. This unique phenomenon has no equivalent for stable particles and could be observable in top pair production at… ▽ More

Decay of entangled fermion pairs with post-selection
Abstract: We consider a pair of unstable fermions in a spin-entangled state. The measurement not only projects the spin of the surviving fermion, but is also physically equivalent to a spin projection for the decayed one -- even when it no longer exists. Post-decay quantum entanglement in top pair production
Abstract: Top pairs produced at the Large Hadron Collider exhibit quantum entanglement of their spins near threshold and for boosted, central $t \bar t$ pairs. Triboson interpretations of the ATLAS diboson excess
Abstract: The ATLAS excess in fat jet pair production is kinematically compatible with the decay of a heavy resonance into two gauge bosons plus an extra particle. This hypothesis would explain the absence of such a large excess in the analogous CMS analysis of fat dijet final states, as well as the negative results of diboson resonance searches in the semi-leptonic decay modes. If the extra particle is the… ▽ More

Pinning down top dipole moments with ultra-boosted tops
Abstract: We investigate existing and future hadron-collider constraints on the top dipole chromomagnetic and chromoelectric moments, two quantities that are expected to be modified in the presence of new physics. We focus first on recent measurements of the inclusive top pair production cross section at the Tevatron and at the Large Hadron Collider. We then analyse the role of top-antitop events produced a… ▽ More

Missing Top Properties
Abstract: We discuss top polarisation observables at the Tevatron and the LHC with special attention to some that have not been measured and provide new, independent information about the top polarisation.

A closer look at the possible CMS signal of a new gauge boson
Abstract: The CMS collaboration has recently reported a 2.8$σ$ excess of $eejj$ events with an invariant mass around 2 TeV. This observation can be explained in the context of standard model extensions with new gauge bosons $W'$, $Z'$ and heavy neutrinos coupling (mainly) to the electron. We discuss additional signals that allow to confirm or discard the $W'$ and $Z'$ hypotheses.

Asymmetries in top quark pair production at hadron colliders
Abstract: We review the asymmetries in top quark pair production at the Tevatron and the LHC. We summarize the experimental measurements and the interpretations of a possible excess in terms of new physics. We also review other top quark properties-emphasizing effects related to the $t \bar t$ asymmetries-as well as other collider signals.

Portrait of a colour octet
Abstract: New colour octets stand out among the new physics proposals to explain the anomalous forward-backward asymmetry measured in $t \bar t$ production by the CDF experiment at the Tevatron. We perform a fit to $t \bar t$ observables at the Tevatron and the LHC, including total cross sections, various asymmetries and the top polarisation and spin correlations, to find the most likely parameters of a lig… ▽ More
