The photovoltaics (PV) technology landscape is evolving rapidly. To predict the potential and scalability of emerging PV technologies, a global understanding of these systems' performance is essential. Traditionally, experimental and computational studies at large national research facilities have focused on PV performance in specific regional climates. However, synthesizing these regional studies to understand the worldwide performance potential has proven difficult. Given the expense of obtaining experimental data, the challenge of coordinating experiments at national labs across a politically-divided world, and the data-privacy concerns of large commercial operators, however, a fundamentally different, data-efficient approach is desired. Here, we present a physics-guided machine learning (PGML) scheme to demonstrate that: (a) The world can be divided into a few PV-specific climate zones, called PVZones, illustrating that the relevant meteorological conditions are shared across continents; (b) by exploiting the climatic similarities, high-quality monthly energy yield data from as few as five locations can accurately predict yearly energy yield potential with high spatial resolution and a root mean square error of less than 8 kWhm$^{2}$, and (c) even with noisy, heterogeneous public PV performance data, the global energy yield can be predicted with less than 6% relative error compared to physics-based simulations provided that the dataset is representative. This PGML scheme is agnostic to PV technology and farm topology, making it adaptable to new PV technologies or farm configurations. The results encourage physics-guided, data-driven collaboration among national policymakers and research organizations to build efficient decision support systems for accelerated PV qualification and deployment across the world.

Existing wearable glucose monitors are limited by the lack of models trained on small datasets, as collecting extensive glucose data is often costly and impractical. Our study introduces a novel machine learning method using modified recurrence plots in the frequency domain to improve glucose level prediction accuracy from wearable device data, even with limited datasets. This technique combines advanced signal processing with machine learning to extract more meaningful features. We tested our method against existing models using historical data, showing that our approach surpasses the current 87\% accuracy benchmark in predicting real-time interstitial glucose levels.

Effectively analyzing the comments to uncover latent intentions holds immense value in making strategic decisions across various domains. However, several challenges hinder the process of sentiment analysis including the lexical diversity exhibited in comments, the presence of long dependencies within the text, encountering unknown symbols and words, and dealing with imbalanced datasets. Moreover, existing sentiment analysis tasks mostly leveraged sequential models to encode the long dependent texts and it requires longer execution time as it processes the text sequentially. In contrast, the Transformer requires less execution time due to its parallel processing nature. In this work, we introduce a novel hybrid deep learning model, RoBERTa-BiLSTM, which combines the Robustly Optimized BERT Pretraining Approach (RoBERTa) with Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) networks. RoBERTa is utilized to generate meaningful word embedding vectors, while BiLSTM effectively captures the contextual semantics of long-dependent texts. The RoBERTa-BiLSTM hybrid model leverages the strengths of both sequential and Transformer models to enhance performance in sentiment analysis. We conducted experiments using datasets from IMDb, Twitter US Airline, and Sentiment140 to evaluate the proposed model against existing state-of-the-art methods. Our experimental findings demonstrate that the RoBERTa-BiLSTM model surpasses baseline models (e.g., BERT, RoBERTa-base, RoBERTa-GRU, and RoBERTa-LSTM), achieving accuracies of 80.74%, 92.36%, and 82.25% on the Twitter US Airline, IMDb, and Sentiment140 datasets, respectively. Additionally, the model achieves F1-scores of 80.73%, 92.35%, and 82.25% on the same datasets, respectively.

This study explores the efficacy of Large Language Models (LLMs) in identifying misleading versus non-misleading news headlines. Utilizing a dataset of 60 articles, sourced from both reputable and questionable outlets across health, science & tech, and business domains, we employ three LLMs- ChatGPT-3.5, ChatGPT-4, and Gemini-for classification. Our analysis reveals significant variance in model performance, with ChatGPT-4 demonstrating superior accuracy, especially in cases with unanimous annotator agreement on misleading headlines. The study emphasizes the importance of human-centered evaluation in developing LLMs that can navigate the complexities of misinformation detection, aligning technical proficiency with nuanced human judgment. We conduct a comprehensive study on spherical orbits around two types of black holes: Kerr-Newman black holes, which are charged, and Ghosh black holes, which are nonsingular. In this work, we consider both null and timelike cases of orbits. Utilizing the Mino formalism, all analytical solutions for the geodesics governing these orbits can be obtained. It turns out that all spherical photon orbits outside the black hole horizons are unstable. In the extremal cases of both models, we obtain the {\it photon boomerangs}. The existence of charge in the Kerr-Newman allows the orbits to transition between retrograde and prograde motions, and its increase tends to force the orbits to be more equatorial. On the other hand, the Ghosh black hole, characterized by a regular core and a lack of horizons in certain conditions, presents the possibility of observable stable spherical orbits in the so-called {\it no-horizon} condition. As the Ghosh parameter $k$ increases, trajectories tend to exhibit larger latitudinal oscillation amplitudes. We observe that as the Ghosh parameter $k$ increases the trajectories tend to have larger latitudinal oscillation amplitudes. Finally, we investigate the existence of {\it innermost stable spherical orbits} (ISSOs). Both black holes demonstrate the appearance of two branches of ISSO radii as a function of the Carter constant $\mathcal{C}$. However, there are notable differences in their behavior: in the case of the Kerr-Newman black hole, the branches merge at a critical value, beyond which no ISSO exists, while for the Ghosh black hole, the transcendental nature of the metric function causes the branches to become complex at some finite distance.

Developing efficient electrocatalysts for CO$_2$ reduction into value-added products is crucial for the green economy. Inspired by the recent synthesis of Biphenylene (BPH), we have systematically investigated pristine, defective, and Cu-decorated BPH as an electrocatalyst for the CO$_2$ reduction reactions (CRR). Our first-principles calculations show the CO$_2$ molecules weakly interact with the pristine BPH surface while defective BPH facilitates the CO$_2$ adsorption with a binding energy ($E_b$) of -3.22 eV, indicating the detrimental process for the CRR on the surface of both systems. Furthermore, we have investigated the binding energy and kinetic stability of Cu-decorated BPH as a single-atom-catalyst (SAC). The molecular dynamics simulations confirm the kinetic stability, revealing that the Cu-atom avoids agglomeration under low metal dispersal conditions. The CO$_2$ molecule gets adsorbed horizontally on the Cu-BPH surface with $E_b$ of -0.52 eV. The CRR mechanism is investigated using two pathways beginning with two different initial intermediate states, formate ($\mathrm{^*OCOH}$) and the carboxylic ($\mathrm{^*COOH}$) pathways. The formate pathway confirms the conversion of $\mathrm{^*OCOH}$ to $\mathrm{^*HCOOH}$ with the rate-limiting potential ($U_L$) of 0.57 eV for the production of HCOOH, while for the carboxylic pathway, the conversion of $\mathrm{^*COH}$ to $\mathrm{^*CHOH}$ has $U_L$ of 0.49 eV for the production of CH$_3$OH. We have also investigated the effect of protons using charged hydrogen pseudopotential, which hints towards the possible formation of CH$_3$OH as fuel. Our findings propose Cu-BPH as an efficient single-atom catalyst for CO$_2$ conversion compared to the well-known Cu metal.

By varying a general pair condensate (VPC), we explore the multiplet of minima in even-even nuclei from $sd$ shell to media-heavy $sdg7h11$ shell, which may provide the foundation of universal coexistence. The VPC calculation is limited within a single major shell, and thus the conventional interpretation for the coexistence near magic number, i.e., multiple-particle-hole excitation across a major shell gap, does not account for coexistence observed in this work. The inclusion of all possible pairing channel is crucial to this ``new'' type of shape coexistence, or increase the energy minima of such coexistence. The angular-momentum projected VPC (PVPC) is adopted to further calculate the low-lying level scheme of some light nuclei, and to identify the band structures emerging from the coexistence. Well agreement between the PVPC results and the experimental data is achieved, and thus the picture of universal coexistence is experimentally supported, at least, in light nuclei.

We have investigated the structural, elastic, electronic, thermophysical, superconducting, and optical properties of ScYH6 under uniform hydrostatic pressures up to 25 GPa, using the density functional theory (DFT) formalism. Most of results reported here are novel. The compound ScYH6 has been found to be elastically and thermodynamically stable within the pressure range considered. The compound is brittle; the brittleness decreases with increasing pressure. The elastic anisotropy is low and the machinability index is moderate which increases gradually with rising pressure. The compound is a hard material. The electronic band structure shows weakly metallic character with low density of states at the Fermi level. The Debye temperature of the compound is high and increases with increasing pressure. The Grüneisen parameter of ScYH6 is low and the phonon thermal conductivity is high at room temperature. The compound is a very efficient reflector of infrared radiation. The compound is also an efficient absorber of visible and ultraviolet light. The overall effect of pressure on optical parameters is small. We have also investigated the pressure induced changes in the predicted superconducting state properties by considering the changes in the electronic density of states at the Fermi level, Debye temperature, and the repulsive Coulomb pseudopotential. The superconducting transition temperature is found to increase gradually with increasing pressure.

Transition metal-based quaternary chalcogenides have gathered immense attention for various renewable energy applications including thermoelectrics (TE). While low-symmetry and complex structure help to achieve low thermal conductivity, the TE power factor and hence the figure of merit (ZT) remains low which hinders to promote these class of materials for future TE applications. Here, we investigated the TE properties of a new system, Cu$_2$ZnSiTe$_4$, with improved electronic transport using first-principles calculation. The presence of heavy chalcogen like Te, helps to achieve a relatively low bandgap (0.58 eV). This, together with unique electronic band topology, leads to a promising value of power-factor of 3.95(n-type) and 3.06(p-type) mWm$^{-1}$K$^{-2}$ at 900 K. Te atoms also play a crucial role in mixing the optical and acoustic phonon branches which, in turn, are responsible for reduced lattice thermal conductivity ($\sim$0.7 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$ at high temperature). Though the thermal conductivity is not appreciably low, the electronic transport properties (power factor) are quite favorable to yield promising TE figure of merit (ZT $\sim$2.67 (n-type) and $\sim$2.11 (p-type) at 900 K). We propose Cu$_2$ZnSiTe$_4$ to be a potential candidate for TE applications, and believe to attract future experimental/theoretical studies.

In cultured meat (CM) products the paramount significance lies in the fundamental attributes like texture and sensory of the processed end product. To cater to the tactile and gustatory preferences of real meat, the product needs to be designed to incorporate its texture and sensory attributes. Presently CM products are mainly grounded products like sausage, nugget, frankfurter, burger patty, surimi, and steak with less sophistication and need to mimic real meat to grapple with the traditional meat market. The existence of fibrous microstructure in connective and muscle tissues has attracted considerable interest in the realm of tissue engineering. Scaffolding plays an important role in CM production by aiding cell adhesion, growth, differentiation, and alignment. A wide array of scaffolding technologies has been developed for implementation in the realm of biomedical research. In recent years researchers also focus on edible scaffolding to ease the process of CM. However, it is imperative to implement cutting edge technologies like 3D scaffolds, 3D printing, electrospun nanofibers in order to advance the creation of sustainable and edible scaffolding methods in CM production, with the ultimate goal of replicating the sensory and nutritional attributes to mimic real meat cut. This review discusses recent advances in scaffolding techniques and biomaterials related to structured CM production and required advances to create muscle fiber structures to mimic real meat.

This study investigates the interfacial characteristics relevant to photovoltaic (PV) devices of the Group--V elemental 2D layers with Si. The surface passivation and carrier selectivity of the interface between $α$ and $β$ allotropes of arsenene, antimonene, and bismuthene monolayers with Si (100) and Si(111) were estimated \emph{via} first--principles calculations. Amongst the various interface configurations studied, all of the Si(111)--based slabs and only a couple of the Si(100)--based slabs are found to be stable. Bader charge analysis reveals that charge transfer from/to the Si slab to (As)/from (Sb and Bi) in the 2D layer occurs, indicating a strong interaction between atoms across the interface. Comparing within the various configurations of a particular charge (electron or hole) selective layer, the structural distortion of the Si slab is the lowest for $α$--As/Si and $β$-Bi/Si. This translates as a lower surface density of states (DOS) in the band gap arising out of the Si slab when integrated with $α$--arsenene and $β$--bismuthene, implying better surface passivation. All-in-all, our analysis suggests $α$-As as the best candidate for a passivating electron selective layer, while $β$-Bi can be a promising candidate for a passivating hole selective layer.

Designing efficient, metal free, and in-expensive catalyst for electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is crucial for large scale clean and green energy production. Recently synthesized 1D Biphenylene nanoribbons (BPRs) display few exciting properties originating from the unique co-existence of 4, 6 and 8 coordinated carbon rings. Here, we present a first principles calculation of the electronic structure and electrocatalytic activity of various sized N-BPRs (N indicates the width). The electrocatalytic performance is evaluated based on several descriptors including electronic property, carrier mobility, Gibbs free energy ($Δ$G$_{HER}$), exchange current density etc. The electronic properties are crucially sensitive to the width (N) of BPRs transiting it from semiconducting to metallic nature at N=18. The p$_z$ orbitals of C-atoms from the central tetragonal rings are mainly responsible for the decrease in band gap with increasing width. The room temperature electron mobility is found to be as high as $\sim6.3\times$10$^4$ cm$^2$V$^{-1}$s$^{-1}$, while hole mobility is relatively lower in magnitude. Gibbs free energy also depends sensitively on the width of BPRs as evident from the p-band center analysis. We propose 15-BPR as the most promising candidate for electrocatalytic activity with extremely small overpotential ($\approx$0.005 V) and a high exchange current density, much better than the state-of-the-art Pt(111). A close inspection of the elementary reactions of HER (Volmer, Heyrovsky and Tafel) confirms Volmer-Tafel mechanism to be most dominant on 15-BPR with Tafel as the rate-determining step with a barrier of 0.56 eV. The present study provides a deeper insight into the excellent HER catalytic activity of a newly synthesized BPR which is inexpensive and is expected to hasten experimental validation towards H$_2$ production.

We report a comprehensive first-principles study of the relative stability of the various possible crystal structures, and the electronic and optical properties of ternary alkali metal chalcogenides ACuX (A= Na/K and X= S/Se/Te) compounds through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The energetics and phonon spectra of greater than 700 structures were compared, and seven possible stabilized structures of six ACuX compounds were identified using the fixed composition evolutionary search method. Our electronic band structure simulation confirms that all the ternary ACuX compounds are direct band gap semiconductors, with the band gap lying between 0.83 eV to 2.88 eV. These compounds exhibit directly allowed electronic transitions from the valence band to the conduction band, which leads to a significant strength of optical transition probability. This yields a sharp rise in the optical absorption spectra (ranging between 10$^4$ to 10$^5$ cm$^{-1}$) near the energy gap. The estimated spectroscopic limited maximum efficiency (SLME) is about 18% for an 8 $μ$m thick NaCuTe film. For other ACuX compounds, the SLME ranges between 10% to 13%. In addition, we also explored the feasibility of these ternary ACuX compounds for photocatalytic water splitting applications and found that they can be promising candidates as photocathodes for hydrogen evolution reactions. With a large spread in the band gap and interesting band topology near Fermi level, these chalcogenides can be quite fertile for other energy applications such as thermoelectric, LED, etc.

Spintronics has emerged as a viable alternative to traditional electronics based technologies in the past few decades. While on one hand, the discovery of topological phases of matter with protected spin-polarized states has opened up exciting prospects, recent revelation of intriguing non-relativistic spin splitting in collinear antiferromagnetic materials with unique symmetries facilitate a wide possibility of realizing both these features simultaneously. In this work, we report the co-existence of these two intriguing properties within a single material: GdAlSi. It crystallizes in a body-centered tetragonal structure with a non-centrosymmetric space group $I4_{1}md$ ($109$). The magnetization data indicates antiferromagnetic ordering with an ordering temperature ($T_N$) 32 K. Ab-initio calculations reveal GdAlSi to be a collinear antiferromagnetic Weyl semimetal with an unconventional, momentum-dependent spin splitting, also referred to as altermagnet. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements on GdAlSi single crystals subsequently confirm the presence of Fermi arcs, a distinctive hallmark of Weyl semimetals. Electric and magnetic multipole analysis provides a deeper understanding of the symmetry-mediated, momentum-dependent spin splitting, which has strictly non-relativistic origin. To the best of our knowledge, such co-existence of unconventional antiferromagnetic order and non-trivial topology is unprecedented and has never been observed before in a single material, rendering GdAlSi a special and promising candidate material. We propose a device harnessing these features, poised to enable practical and efficient topotronic applications.

The Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) technique was used to assess and evaluate the design quantitatively. Our design demonstrates higher sensitivity compared to many recent studies conducted on SOI-based sensors. The device structure follows a conventional ring resonator arrangement with a single waveguide, incorporating a 2D graphene layer on top of the SiO2 wafer and a gold nano-disc positioned at the center of the ring. Our findings highlight the device's susceptibility to refractive index variations, making it a desirable choice for various sensing applications. We have investigated the sensor's capabilities for sensing different concentrations of milkmilk. Graphene and gold materials enhance the device's response to light and provide comparatively higher sensitivity. The suggested design can serve as a blueprint for device fabrication, considering the practicality of implementing an SOI-based device using standard techniques for silicon processing.

Using the density functional theory (DFT) based first-principles investigation, the structural, mechanical, hardness, elastic anisotropy, optoelectronic, and thermal properties of cubic KB2H8 have been studied within the uniform pressure range of 0 - 24 GPa. The calculated structural parameters are in good agreement with the previous theoretical work. The compound KB2H8 is found to be structurally and thermodynamically stable in the pressure range from 8 GPa to 24 GPa. Single crystal elastic constants Cij and bulk elastic moduli (B, G and Y) increase systematically with pressure from 8 GPa to 24 GPa. In the stable phase, KB2H8 is moderately elastically anisotropic and ductile in nature. The compound is highly machinable and fracture resistant. The Debye temperature, melting temperature and thermal conductivity increases with pressure. The results of electronic band structure calculations and optical parameters at different pressures are consistent with each other. The compound is optically isotropic. The compound KB2H8 has potential to be used as a very efficient solar energy reflector. The electronic energy density of states at the Fermi level decreases systematically with increasing pressure. The same trend is found for the repulsive Coulomb pseudopotential. Possible relevance of the studied properties to superconductivity has also been discussed in this paper.

The magnetic spin degrees of freedom in magnetic materials serve as additional capability to tune materials properties, thereby invoking magneto-optical response. Herein, we report the magneto-optoelectronic properties of a family of lead-free magnetic double perovskites Cs_{2}AgTX_{6} (T = Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu; X=Cl, Br, I). This turns out to provide an extremely fertile series, giving rise to potential candidate materials for photovoltaic(PV) applications. In conjunction with high absorption coefficient and high simulated power conversion efficiency for PV applications, few compounds in this series exhibit novel magnetic character useful for spintronic applications. The interaction between magnetism and light can have far-reaching results on the photovoltaic properties as a consequence of the shift in the defect energy levels due to Zeeman effect. This subsequently affects the recombination rate of minority carriers, and hence the photoconversion efficiency. Moreover, the distinct ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic ordering driven by hybridization and super-exchange mechanism can play a significant role to break the time-reversal and/or inversion symmetry. Such a coalescence of magnetism and efficient optoelectronic response has the potential to trigger magnetic/spin anomalous photovoltaic (non-linear Optical) effect in this Cs$_{2}$AgTX$_{6}$ family. These insights can thus channelize the advancement of lead-free double perovskites in magnetic/spin anomalous photovoltaic field as well.

Future wireless networks will need to improve adaptive resource allocation and decision-making to handle the increasing number of intelligent devices. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are being explored for their potential in real-time decision-making. Moreover, cognitive non-orthogonal multiple access (Cognitive-NOMA) is envisioned as a remedy to address spectrum scarcity and enable massive connectivity. This paper investigates the design of joint subchannel and power allocation in an uplink UAV-based cognitive NOMA network. We aim to maximize the cumulative sum rate by jointly optimizing the subchannel and power allocation based on the UAV's mobility at each time step. This is often formulated as an optimization problem with random variables. However, conventional optimization algorithms normally introduce significant complexity, and machine learning methods often rely on large but partially representative datasets to build solution models, assuming stationary testing data. Consequently, inference strategies for non stationary events are often overlooked. In this study, we introduce a novel active inference-based learning approach, rooted in cognitive neuroscience, to solve this complex problem. The framework involves creating a training dataset using random or iterative methods to find suboptimal resource allocations. This dataset trains a mobile UAV offline, enabling it to learn a generative model of discrete subchannels and continuous power allocation. The UAV then uses this model for online inference. The method incrementally derives new generative models from training data by identifying dynamic equilibrium conditions between required actions and variables, represented within a unique dynamic Bayesian network. The proposed approach is validated through numerical simulations, showing efficient performance compared to suboptimal baseline schemes.

Given the surge in wireless data traffic driven by the emerging Internet of Things (IoT), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), cognitive radio (CR), and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) have been recognized as promising techniques to overcome massive connectivity issues. As a result, there is an increasing need to intelligently improve the channel capacity of future wireless networks. Motivated by active inference from cognitive neuroscience, this paper investigates joint subchannel and power allocation for an uplink UAV-assisted cognitive NOMA network. Maximizing the sum rate is often a highly challenging optimization problem due to dynamic network conditions and power constraints. To address this challenge, we propose an active inference-based algorithm. We transform the sum rate maximization problem into abnormality minimization by utilizing a generalized state-space model to characterize the time-changing network environment. The problem is then solved using an Active Generalized Dynamic Bayesian Network (Active-GDBN). The proposed framework consists of an offline perception stage, in which a UAV employs a hierarchical GDBN structure to learn an optimal generative model of discrete subchannels and continuous power allocation. In the online active inference stage, the UAV dynamically selects discrete subchannels and continuous power to maximize the sum rate of secondary users. By leveraging the errors in each episode, the UAV can adapt its resource allocation policies and belief updating to improve its performance over time. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm in terms of cumulative sum rate compared to benchmark schemes.

Privacy-preserving crowd density analysis finds application across a wide range of scenarios, substantially enhancing smart building operation and management while upholding privacy expectations in various spaces. We propose a non-speech audio-based approach for crowd analytics, leveraging a transformer-based model. Our results demonstrate that non-speech audio alone can be used to conduct such analysis with remarkable accuracy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time when non-speech audio signals are proposed for predicting occupancy. As far as we know, there has been no other similar approach of its kind prior to this. To accomplish this, we deployed our sensor-based platform in the waiting room of a large hospital with IRB approval over a period of several months to capture non-speech audio and thermal images for the training and evaluation of our models. The proposed non-speech-based approach outperformed the thermal camera-based model and all other baselines. In addition to demonstrating superior performance without utilizing speech audio, we conduct further analysis using differential privacy techniques to provide additional privacy guarantees. Overall, our work demonstrates the viability of employing non-speech audio data for accurate occupancy estimation, while also ensuring the exclusion of speech-related content and providing robust privacy protections through differential privacy guarantees.

OpenAI's GPT model has potential in such clone generation as GPT is used for text generation. When developers copy/paste codes from Stack Overflow (SO) or within a system, there might be inconsistent changes leading to unexpected behaviours. Similarly, if someone possesses a code snippet in a particular programming language but seeks equivalent functionality in a different language, a semantic cross-language code clone generation approach could provide valuable assistance. In this study, using SemanticCloneBench as a vehicle, we evaluated how well the GPT-3 model could help generate semantic and cross-language clone variants for a given fragment. We have comprised a diverse set of code fragments and assessed GPT-3s performance in generating code variants.Through extensive experimentation and analysis, where 9 judges spent 158 hours to validate, we investigate the model's ability to produce accurate and semantically correct variants. Our findings shed light on GPT-3's strengths in code generation, offering insights into the potential applications and challenges of using advanced language models in software development. Our quantitative analysis yields compelling results. In the realm of semantic clones, GPT-3 attains an impressive accuracy of 62.14% and 0.55 BLEU score, achieved through few-shot prompt engineering. In the search for stable lead (Pb) free perovskites, Vacancy ordered double perovskite (VODP), A$_2$BX$_6$ has emerged as a promising class of materials for solar harvesting owing to their nontoxicity, better stability, and unique optoelectronic properties. Here, we present the stability and the key physical attributes of few selected compounds in a systematic manner using state-of-the-art first-principle calculations. A careful structural and stability analysis via simulating convex hull and compositional phase diagrams for different structural prototypes discloses 14 stable and 1 metastable compounds in this class. The electronic structure calculations using hybrid functional reveals six compounds to acquire band gap in the ideal visible region. These six compounds, namely Cs$_2$SnI$_6$, Cs$_2$PdI$_6$, Cs$_2$TeI$_6$, Cs$_2$TiI$_6$, Cs$_2$PtI$_6$, and Cs$_2$PdBr$_6$, show high optical absorption ($\approx$ 10$^{5}$ cm $^{-1}$) giving rise to high spectroscopic limited maximum efficiency, SLME (15-23\%) in the thin-film thickness range. Close inspection of transport properties reveals polar optical phonon scattering to be the dominant mechanism limiting the overall mobility. Further analysis of the polaron excitations discloses the possibility of large polaron formation at low to moderate defect concentrations. At high defect concentrations, ionized impurity scattering takes over. This suggests that, a simulation based guided control of defect concentrations during synthesis can yield a desired candidate for promissing device application. Additionally, few selected compounds show moderate to high electron mobility values ($\sim$13-63 cm$^2$V$^{-1}$ s$^{-1}$) at room temperature. Overall, the present study paves an important path to help design VODP as Pb-free potential candidates for future optoelectronic applications.

With the emergence of Machine Learning, there has been a surge in leveraging its capabilities for problem-solving across various domains. In the code clone realm, the identification of type-4 or semantic clones has emerged as a crucial yet challenging task. Researchers aim to utilize Machine Learning to tackle this challenge, often relying on the BigCloneBench dataset. However, it's worth noting that BigCloneBench, originally not designed for semantic clone detection, presents several limitations that hinder its suitability as a comprehensive training dataset for this specific purpose. Furthermore, CLCDSA dataset suffers from a lack of reusable examples aligning with real-world software systems, rendering it inadequate for cross-language clone detection approaches. In this work, we present a comprehensive semantic clone and cross-language clone benchmark, GPTCloneBench by exploiting SemanticCloneBench and OpenAI's GPT-3 model. In particular, using code fragments from SemanticCloneBench as sample inputs along with appropriate prompt engineering for GPT-3 model, we generate semantic and cross-language clones for these specific fragments and then conduct a combination of extensive manual analysis, tool-assisted filtering, functionality testing and automated validation in building the benchmark. From 79,928 clone pairs of GPT-3 output, we created a benchmark with 37,149 true semantic clone pairs, 19,288 false semantic pairs(Type-1/Type-2), and 20,770 cross-language clones across four languages (Java, C, C#, and Python). Our benchmark is 15-fold larger than SemanticCloneBench, has more functional code examples for software systems and programming language support than CLCDSA, and overcomes BigCloneBench's qualities, quantification, and language variety limitations.

However, side channels like access patterns remain for adversaries to exploit and obtain sensitive information. Common approaches use oblivious programs or primitives, such as ORAM, to make access patterns oblivious to input data, which are challenging to develop. This demonstration shows a prototype SGX-MR-Prot for efficiently protecting access patterns of SGX-based data-intensive applications and minimizing developers' efforts. SGX-MR-Prot uses the MapReduce framework to regulate application dataflows to reduce the cost of access-pattern protection and hide the data oblivious details from SGX developers. Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) are gradually adopted by major cloud providers, offering a practical option of \emph{confidential computing} for users who don't fully trust public clouds. TEEs use CPU-enabled hardware features to eliminate direct breaches from compromised operating systems or hypervisors. However, recent studies have shown that side-channel attacks are still effective on TEEs. An appealing solution is to convert applications to be \emph{data oblivious} to deter many side-channel attacks. While a few research prototypes on TEEs have adopted specific data oblivious operations, the general conversion approaches have never been thoroughly compared against and tested on benchmark TEE applications. These limitations make it difficult for researchers and practitioners to choose and adopt a suitable data oblivious approach for their applications. To address these issues, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of several representative conversion approaches and implement benchmark TEE applications with them. We also perform an extensive empirical study to provide insights into their performance and ease of use.

The combination of diverse health data (IoT, EHR, and clinical surveys) and scalable-adaptable Artificial Intelligence (AI), has enabled the discovery of physical, behavioral, and psycho-social indicators of pain status. Despite the hype and promise to fundamentally alter the healthcare system with technological advancements, much AI adoption in clinical pain evaluation has been hampered by the heterogeneity of the problem itself and other challenges, such as personalization and fairness. Studies have revealed that many AI (i.e., machine learning or deep learning) models display biases and discriminate against specific population segments (such as those based on gender or ethnicity), which breeds skepticism among medical professionals about AI adaptability. In this paper, we propose a Multi-attribute Fairness Loss (MAFL) based CNN model that aims to account for any sensitive attributes included in the data and fairly predict patients' pain status while attempting to minimize the discrepancies between privileged and unprivileged groups. In order to determine whether the trade-off between accuracy and fairness can be satisfied, we compare the proposed model with well-known existing mitigation procedures, and studies reveal that the implemented model performs favorably in contrast to state-of-the-art methods. Utilizing NIH All-Of-US data, where a cohort of 868 distinct individuals with wearables and EHR data gathered over 1500 days has been taken into consideration to analyze our suggested fair pain assessment system.

However, when it comes to wearable-based classification and domain adaptation, existing computer vision-based deep learning architectures and pretrained models trained on thousands of labeled images for months fall short. This is primarily because wearable sensor data necessitates sensor-specific preprocessing, architectural modification, and extensive data collection. To overcome these challenges, researchers have proposed encoding of wearable temporal sensor data in images using recurrent plots. In this paper, we present a novel modified-recurrent plot-based image representation that seamlessly integrates both temporal and frequency domain information. Our approach incorporates an efficient Fourier transform-based frequency domain angular difference estimation scheme in conjunction with the existing temporal recurrent plot image. The study of topological quantum materials for enhanced thermoelectric energy conversion has received significant attention recently. Topological materials (including topological insulators and Dirac/Weyl/nodal-line semi-metals) with unique nature of band structure involving linear and regular parabolic bands near Fermi level (E$_F$) have the potential to show promising TE properties. In this article, we report the promising TE performance of a quaternary chalcogenide (Cu$_2$ZnGeTe$_4$) having non-trivial topological phase. At ambient condition, the compound is a narrow band gap (0.067 eV) semiconductor, with a TE figure of merit (ZT) 1.2. Application of 5% strain drives the system to a topologically non-trivial Weyl semi-metal with the right combination of linear and parabolic bands near E$_F$, giving rise to a reasonable ZT of 0.36. Apart from strain, alloy engineering (Sn substituted at Ge) is also shown to induce topological non-triviality. The present work demonstrates the potential of such unique semimetals for exceptional electronic transport properties and hence excellent thermoelectric performance.

Binary uranium hydrides, UHx (x = 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8), with different crystal symmetries are potentially interesting compounds for high-Tc superconductivity and as hydrogen storage systems. In this work we have explored the structural, elastic, mechanical, bonding, and thermophysical properties of these systems under uniform pressure via density functional theory based computations. Most of the results disclosed in this work are novel. From the calculations of the cohesive energy and enthalpy of formation, we have found that the titled compounds are chemically stable. The computed elastic constants at different pressures ensure elastic stability. All the binary hydrides are mechanically anisotropic. Pressure induced brittle-ductile transition takes place under high pressure. The compounds are machinable with the cubic α-UH3-Pm-3n showing very high value of the machinability index. All the compounds are fairly hard with cubic UH8 showing superhard character. The Debye temperatures and acoustic velocities of these compounds are high; the highest value is found for the cubic UH8. The melting temperature, Grüneisen parameter, minimal phonon thermal conductivity, and the thermal expansion coefficient of these compounds have also been studied at different pressures. All these parameters show excellent correspondence with the estimated Debye temperature, elastic parameters and bonding characteristics.

The alloy crystallizes in an inverse Heusler structure (without any martensitic transition) with a para- to ferri-magnetic transition at $T_\mathrm{C} \sim$ 243 K. It shows a giant coercive field of about 8.5 kOe (at 2 K). The negative temperature coefficient, relatively low magnitude and weak temperture dependance of electrical resistivity suggest the semimetallic character of the alloy. This is further supported by our specific heat measurement. Magnetoresistance (MR) confirms an irreversible nature (with its magnitude $\sim$1\%) along with a change of sign across the magnetic transition indicating the potentiality of Mn$_2$IrGa in magnetic switching applications. In addition, asymmetric nature of MR in the positive and negative field cycles is indicative of spin-valve characteristics. Our ab-initio calculations confirm the inverse Heusler structure with ferrimagnetic ordering to be the lowest energy state, with a saturation magnetization of 2 $μ_\mathrm{B}$. $<100>$ is found to be the easy magnetic axis with considerable magneto-crystalline anisotropy energy. A large positive Berry flux at/around $Γ$ point gives rise to an appreciable anomalous Hall conductivity ($\sim$-180 S/cm).

These OOD tasks require learning-to-learn from observations of the same (ODE) dynamical system with different unknown ODE parameters, and demand accurate forecasts even under out-of-support initial conditions and out-of-support ODE parameters. In this work we propose a solution for such tasks, which we define as a meta-learning procedure for causal structure discovery (including invariant risk minimization). Using three different OOD tasks, we empirically observe that the proposed approach significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art PIML and deep learning methods.

Lycopene contributes to the red-colored pigmentation of fruits and vegetables, and it is a fat-soluble carotenoid with antioxidant properties. Epidemiological studies have shown the significant health benefits associated to the consumption of lycopene rich foods, because of the anti-cancer properties. Degradative losses of lycopene during processing is a grave concern, hence encapsulation provides a remedy. The objective of this study is to evaluate the encapsulation efficiency of two biodegradable polymers (PLGA and PCL) as for controlled release of lycopene in the gastrointestinal (GI) system. The nanoparticles (NP) were synthesized by emulsion evaporation method and physicochemical properties was determined using a Dynamic Light Scattering spectroscopy. The results show the hydrodynamic diameter of the lycopene NP synthesized in PCL (200 mg) and 3500 mg surfactant and sonicated for 15 min was 79.23+0.85 nm (Lowest). PLGA (500 mg) and 500 mg surfactant with 15 min sonication was observed to have the lowest NP diameter (108.2+2.66 nm) among the others. Significant difference result found in PDI value (0.12+0.07) when PCL of 200mg dissolve in 3500 mg of surfactant. On the other hands the zeta potential values were much smaller in case of PCL NP ranged between -1.3+0.046 and -4.21+0.08 mV compared to the PLGA NP -72.36+2.17 to 107.66+3.15 mV in all experiments. Thus, NP synthesized with PCL and surfactant provide a smaller sized nano-solution than PLGA and surfactant. As the degradation rate for PCL is lower than PLGA so PCL can be considered as a potential biodegradable polymer than PLGA to encapsulate lycopene.

K-means Clustering is the most well-known partitioning algorithm among all clustering, by which we can partition the data objects very easily in to more than one clusters. However, for K-means to choose an appropriate number of clusters without any prior domain knowledge about the dataset is challenging, especially in high-dimensional data objects. Hence, we have implemented the Silhouette and Elbow methods with PCA to find an optimal number of clusters. Also, previously, so many meta-heuristic swarm intelligence algorithms inspired by nature have been employed to handle the automatic data clustering problem. Firefly is efficient and robust for automatic clustering. However, in the Firefly algorithm, the entire population is automatically subdivided into sub-populations that decrease the convergence rate speed and trapping to local minima in high-dimensional optimization problems. Thus, our study proposed an enhanced firefly, i.e., a hybridized K-means with an ODFA model for automatic clustering. The experimental part shows output and graphs of the Silhouette and Elbow methods as well as the Firefly algorithm

Ca$_2$FeMnO$_6$ (CFMO) double perovskite was studied using first principles density functional theory and tight-binding (TB) Hamiltonian modeling using extended Hubbard model. We have shown by electronic structure analysis that charge- and magnetic-ordering are driven by charge disproportionation at low temperature caused by partial localization of O-$2p$ ligand holes at alternate Fe sites that creates Jahn-Teller distortion, which leads to metal to insulator transition (MIT) in CFMO. Our results suggests MIT was triggered by negative charge-transfer energy of self-hole doping, responsible for symmetry lowering transitions. Notably, the band-gap was found to fundamentally controlled by the strength of the charge-transfer energy, and not by the Mott-Hubbard interactions, which can be modeled by composition, pressure or stoichiometry modulations. The fundamental insights presented in this work will help understand similar physics and mechanisms in other class of perovskites and correlated metals.

Nanoencapsulation has become a widespread technique to improve the bioavailability of bioactive compounds like lycopene. Consumption of lycopene rich foods is effective in preventing cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases due to its strong, oxygen-quenching ability. But the functional activity of lycopene is compromised by light, oxygen, and heat. A biodegradable polymer such as PLA or PLGA is the most effective carrier for encapsulating lycopene due to its excellent biodegradability, biocompatibility, and nontoxigenic effect on the human metabolic system. Hence, the primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of pasteurization on bioaccessibility and control release kinetics of encapsulated lycopene nanoparticles in invitro human GIT. In the first objective, sonication time, surfactant, and polymer concentration were considered as the three factors to synthesize polymeric lycopene nanoparticles (LNP) whereas in the second objective, type of pasteurization, encapsulation, and juice concentration were three factors. In Objectives 4 and 5, the type of encapsulation and pasteurization, and digestion time were evaluated as the three factors used to evaluate the in-vitro bioaccessibility of encapsulated lycopene NP. The study evidenced that encapsulation improved the lycopene's bioaccessibility by 70% and more than 60% for conventional pasteurized (CP) and microwave pasteurized (MP) nanoemulsions, respectively without compromising the physicochemical properties of both PLA and PLGA-lycopene nanoparticles. The invitro bioaccessibility study also showed that CP reduced the functional activity of PLALNP by 20% whereas MP had no significant effect on the bioaccessibility of PLA LNP. It is unlikely that the PLGA LNP was more sensitive against MP nanoemulsion than the CP. In conclusion, it was shown that the PLA LNP treated with MP provided the highest bioaccessibility.

The enormous growth of research publications has made it challenging for academic search engines to bring the most relevant papers against the given search query. Numerous solutions have been proposed over the years to improve the effectiveness of academic search, including exploiting query expansion and citation analysis. Query expansion techniques mitigate the mismatch between the language used in a query and indexed documents. However, these techniques can suffer from introducing non-relevant information while expanding the original query. Recently, contextualized model BERT to document retrieval has been quite successful in query expansion. Motivated by such issues and inspired by the success of BERT, this paper proposes a novel approach called QeBERT. QeBERT exploits BERT-based embedding and Citation Network Analysis (CNA) in query expansion for improving scholarly search. Specifically, we use the context-aware BERT-embedding and CNA for query expansion in Pseudo-Relevance Feedback (PRF) fash-ion. Initial experimental results on the ACL dataset show that BERT-embedding can provide a valuable augmentation to query expansion and improve search relevance when combined with CNA.

The use of biodegradable polymers simplifies the development of therapeutic devices with regards to transient implants and three-dimensional platform suitable for tissue engineering. Further advances have also occurred in the controlled released mechanism of bioactive compounds encapsulated in biodegradable polymers. This application requires the understanding of the physicochemical properties of the polymeric materials and their inherent impact on the delivery of encapsulated bioactive. Hence, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of surfactant and sonication time on the bio-accessibility of lycopene encapsulated polymeric nanoparticles. The emulsion evaporation method was used to encapsulate lycopene in poly-lactic co-glycolic acid (PLGA) with surfactant concentration, sonication time and polymer concentration as independent variables. Physicochemical and morphological characteristics were measured with a zetasizer and SEM, while the encapsulation efficiency and controlled release kinetics with spectrophotometric, and the dialysis method was used to estimate bioaccessibility. The results have shown sonication time to have significantly (p < 0.05) influenced the encapsulation efficiency. Hence, the sonication time of 4 min yield an encapsulation efficiency of 78% and increased to 97% with increase sonication time (6 min). Increased sonication time had a decreasing effect on the hydrodynamic diameter and stability of the encapsulated nanoparticles. The slow release of lycopene was observed during the first 12 days, followed by a burst release of about 44% on the 13th day in-vitro. The study will have significant impact on the manufacturing of functional food with encapsulated ingredients and provide an understanding of their inherent control release mechanism in the GIT.

Lycopene, rich in red, yellow, or orange-colored fruits and vegetables, is the most potent antioxidant among the other carotenoids available in human blood plasma. It is evident that regular lycopene intake can prevent chronic diseases like cardiovascular diseases, type-2 diabetes, hypertension, kidney diseases and cancer. However, thermal processing, light, oxygen, and enzymes in gastrointestinal tract (GIT) compromise the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of lycopene ingested through diet. Nanoencapsulation provides a potential platform to prevent lycopene from light, air oxygen, thermal processing and enzymatic activity of the human digestive system. Physicochemical properties evidenced to be the potential indicator for determining the bioaccessibility of encapsulated bioactive compounds like lycopene. By manipulating the size or hydrodynamic diameter, zeta potential value or stability, polydispersity index or homogeneity and functional activity or retention of antioxidant properties observed to be the most prominent physicochemical properties to evaluate beneficial effect of implementation of nanotechnology on bioaccessibility study. Moreover, the molecular mechanism of the bioavailability of nanoparticles is not yet to be understood due to lack of comprehensive design to identify nanoparticles' behaviors if ingested through oral route as functional food ingredients. This review paper aims to study and leverage existing techniques about how nanotechnology can be used and verified to identify the bioaccessibility of lycopene before using it as a functional food ingredient for therapeutic treatments.

Based on our experimental and theoretical studies, we report the identification of the quaternary Heusler alloy, CoRuVSi as a new member of the recently discovered spin semimetals class. Spin polarised semimetals possess a unique band structure in which one of the spin bands shows semimetallic nature, while the other shows semiconducting/insulating nature. Our findings show that CoRuVSi possesses interesting spintronic and thermoelectric properties. Magnetization data reveal a weak ferri-/antiferro magnetic ordering at low temperatures, with only a very small moment $\sim$ 0.13 $μ_B$/f.u., attributed to the disorder. Transport results provide strong evidence of semimetallicity dominated by two-band conduction, while magnetoresistance data show a non-saturating, linear, positive, magnetoresistance. Spin polarization measurements using point-contact Andreev reflection spectra reveal a reasonably high spin polarization of $\sim$ 50\%, which matches fairly well with the simulated result. Furthermore, CoRuVSi shows a high thermopower value of $0.7$ $m Watt/ m-K^{2}$ at room temperature with the dominant contribution from the semimetallic bands, rendering it as a promising thermoelectric material as well. Our ab-initio simulation not only confirms a unique semimetallic feature, but also reveals that the band structure hosts a linear band crossing at $\sim$ -0.4 eV below the Fermi level incorporated by a band-inversion. In addition, the observed topological non-trivial features of the band structure is corroborated with the simulated Berry curvature, intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity and the Fermi surface. The coexistence of many interesting properties relevant for spintronic, topological and thermoelectric applications in a single material is extremely rare and hence this study could promote a similar strategy to identify other potential materials belonging to same class.

Double half-heusler alloys are the new class of compounds which can be seen as transmuted version of two single half-heusler with higher flexibility of tuning their properties. Here, we report a detailed study of thermoelectric (TE) properties of two double half-heusler (HH) alloys X$_2$Ni$_2$InSb (X=Hf/Zr), using first-principles calculation. These alloys exhibit a rich phase diagram with the possibility of tetragonal, cubic and solid solution phase at different temperature range. As such, a comparative study of TE properties of all these phases is performed. The ordered phases show quite favorable electronic transport as compared to the disordered ones in both compounds. Lattice thermal conductivity of double HH alloys is lower than their ternary counter-part, making them most promising for TE application. Simulated band gap, obtained using hybrid functional, of ordered phases of Hf$_2$Ni$_2$InSb and Zr$_2$Ni$_2$InSb lie in the range 0.24-0.4 eV and 0.17-0.59 eV respectively, while for disordered phase, it is 0.05- 0.06 eV. Hf$_2$Ni$_2$InSb shows a reasonably high ZT value of $\sim$ 2.19, while Zr$_2$Ni$_2$InSb yields 2.46 at high temperature for n-type conduction in tetragonal phase. The ZT value for p-type conduction is also quite promising ($\sim$ 1.35 and $\sim$ 2.19 for Hf- and Zr-based compounds). In both the compounds, electronic transport (Seebeck and electrical conductivity) plays the dominant role for the high ZT-value. Keeping in mind the promising TE performance, we propose immediate attention from experimentalists to synthesize and cross validate our findings for these new candidate materials.

We propose SnBi2Te4 to be a novel candidate material exhibiting temperature (T) mediated transitions between rich topological phases. From a combined theoretical and experimental studies, we find that SnBi2Te4 goes from a low-T topological semimetallic phase to a high-T (room temperature) topological insulating phase via an intermediate topological metallic phase. Single crystals of SnBi2Te4 are characterized by various experimental probes including Synchrotron based X-ray diffraction, magnetoresistance, Hall effect, Seebeck coefficient, magnetization and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). X-ray diffraction data confirms an anomalous thermal expansion of the unit cell volume below 100 K, which significantly affects the bulk band structure and hence the transport properties, as confirmed by our density functional theory calculations. Simulated surface states at 15 K agree fairly well with our ARPES data and are found to be robust with varying T. This indirectly supports the experimentally observed paramagnetic singularity in the entire T-range. The proposed coexistence of rich topological phases is a rare occurrence, yet paves a fertile ground to tune various topological phases in a material driven by structural distortion.

It crystallises in the L2$_1$ structure with 50$\%$ antisite disorder between Fe and Rh. Below 300 K, it shows a weakly temperature dependent electrical resistivity with negative temperature coefficient, indicating the normal semimetal or spin semimetal behavior. Anomalous magnetoresistance data reveals dominant contribution from asymmetric part, a clear signature of spin-valve nature, which is retained even at room temperature. \textcolor{black}{The asymmetric part of magneto-resistance shows an unusual increase with increasing temperature.} Hall measurements confirm the anomalous nature of conductivity originating from the intrinsic Berry curvature, with holes being the majority carriers. We have studied optical properties of P21/m phase at 0 GPa and Pmn21 phase at 100 GPa only (considering phase stability). Both of the phases of MgVH6 are thermodynamically stable. P21/m phase is mechanically stable but Pmn21 is mechanically unstable in our calculations for the pressures considered. Monoclinic (P21/m) is ductile in nature, on the other hand, orthorhombic (Pmn21) is brittle in nature at 100 GPa and becomes ductile for pressures in the range from 125 GPa to 200 GPa. Hardness calculations indicate superhard character of orthorhombic (Pmn21) structure at 100 GPa. The melting temperature of orthorhombic crystal is very high. This also agrees with the bulk modulus, Debye temperature, and hardness calculations. We have calculated theoretically the superconducting transition temperature Tc at different pressures only for the orthorhombic (Pmn21) structure following a previous study. The estimated values of transition temperatures are within 104.7 K to 26.1 K in the pressure range from 100 GPa to 200 GPa. MgVH6, in both the structures, are elastically and optically anisotropic.
