We have studied the feasibility of the experimental determination of the width of a $D$ meson in a nuclear medium by using the method of the nuclear transparency. The cross section for inclusive production of a $D^+$ in different nuclei is evaluated, taking care of the $D^+$ absorption in the nucleus, or equivalently, the survival probability of the $D^+$ in its way out of the nucleus from the point of production. We use present values of the in medium width of $D$ mesons and calculate ratios of the cross sections for different nuclei to the $^{12} \text{C} $ nucleus as reference. We find ratios of the order of $0.6$ for heavy nuclei, a large deviation from unity, which indicates that the method proposed is adequate to measure this relevant magnitude, so far only known theoretically.

We find that the system is bound with respect to the corresponding $Λ_c^* D$ threshold with a binding of about $60$ MeV and a width of about $90$ MeV. Alternatively we assume a cluster of $ND$ and a $D^*$ meson interacting with the cluster and we find similar results. The observation of these states of $J^P = 1/2^+,\, 3/2^+$ would provide new and valuable information concerning the $DN$ and $D^* N$ interaction, an issue of current debate.

We analyze the modifications that a dense nuclear medium induces in the $D_{s0}^\ast(2317)^\pm$ and $D_{s1}(2460)^\pm$. In the vacuum, we consider them as isoscalar $D^{(*)}K$ and $\overline{D}{}^{(*)}\overline{K}$ $S$-wave bound states, which are dynamically generated from effective interactions that lead to different Weinberg compositeness scenarios. Matter effects are incorporated through the two-meson loop functions, taking into account the self energies that the $D^{(*)}$, $\overline{D}{}^{(*)}$, $K$, and $\overline{K}$ develop when embedded in a nuclear medium. Although particle-antiparticle [$D^{(\ast)}_{s0,s1}(2317,2460)^+$ versus $D^{(\ast)}_{s0,s1}(2317,2460)^-$] lineshapes are the same in vacuum, we find extremely different density patterns in matter. This charge-conjugation asymmetry mainly stems from the very different kaon and antikaon interaction with the nucleons of the dense medium. We show that the in-medium lineshapes found for these resonances strongly depend on their $D^{(*)}K$/$\overline{D}{}^{(*)}\overline{K}$ molecular content, and discuss how this novel feature can be used to better determine/constrain the inner structure of these exotic states.

We present a detailed study of the lowest-lying ${\frac{1}{2}}^-$ and ${\frac{3}{2}}^-$ $Λ_{Q}$ resonances both in the heavy quark (bottom and charm) and the strange sectors. We have paid special attention to the interplay between the constituent quark-model and chiral baryon-meson degrees of freedom, which are coupled using a unitarized scheme consistent with leading-order heavy quark symmetries. We show that the $Λ_b(5912)$ [$J^P=1/2^-$], $Λ_b(5920)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$] and the $Λ_c(2625)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$], and the $Λ(1520)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$] admitting larger breaking corrections, are heavy-quark spin-flavor siblings. They can be seen as dressed quark-model states with $Σ_{Q}^{(*)}π$ molecular components of the order of 30\%. The ${J^P=\frac{1}{2}}^-$ $Λ_c(2595)$ has, however, a higher molecular probability of at least $50$\%, and even values greater than 70\% can be easily accommodated. This is because it is located almost on top of the threshold of the $Σ_cπ$ pair, which largely influences its properties. Although the light degrees of freedom in this resonance would be coupled to spin-parity $1^-$ as in the $Λ_b(5912)$, $Λ_b(5920)$ and $Λ_c(2625)$, the $Λ_c(2595)$ should not be considered as a heavy-quark spin-flavor partner of the former ones. We also show that the $Λ(1405)$ chiral two-pole pattern does not have analogs in the $\frac{1}{2}^-$ charmed and bottomed sectors, because the $ND^{(*)}$ and $N\overline{B}{}^{(*)} $ channels do not play for heavy quarks the decisive role that the $N \overline{K}$ does in the strange sector, and the notable influence of the bare quark-model states for the charm and bottom resonances. Finally, we predict the existence of two $Λ_b(6070)$ and two $Λ_c(2765)$ heavy-quark spin and flavor sibling odd parity states.

We study here the inverse problem of starting from the femtoscopic correlation functions of related channels and analyze them with an efficient tool to extract the maximum information possible on the interaction of the components of these channels, and the existence of possible bound states tied to this interaction. The method is flexible enough to accommodate non-molecular components and the effect of missing channels relevant for the interaction. We apply the method to realistic correlation functions for the $D^{*+}D^0$ and $D^{*0}D^+$ channels derived consistently from the properties of the $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ and find that we can extract the existence of a bound state, its nature as a molecular state of the $D^{*+}D^0$ and $D^{*0}D^+$ channels, the probabilities of each channel, as well as scattering lengths and effective ranges for the channels, together with the size of the source function, all of them with a relatively good precision.

We discuss the modification of the properties of the tetraquark-like $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ and $T_{\bar c\bar c}(3875)^-$ states in dense nuclear matter. We consider the $T_{cc}^+$ and $T_{\bar c\bar c}^-$ in vacuum as purely isoscalar $D^{\ast} D$ and $\overline{D}{}^{\ast} \overline{D}$ $S$-wave bound states, respectively, dynamically generated from a heavy-quark effective interaction between the charmed mesons. We compute the $D$, $\overline{D}$, $D^*$, and $\overline{D}{}^{*}$ spectral functions embedded in a nuclear medium and use them to determine the corresponding $T_{cc}^+$ and $T_{\bar c\bar c}^-$ self energies and spectral functions. We find important modifications of the $D^{\ast} D$ and $\overline{D}{}^{\ast} \overline{D}$ scattering amplitudes and of the pole position of these exotic states already for $ρ_0/2$, with $ρ_0$ the normal nuclear density. We also discuss the dependence of these results on the $D^{\ast} D$ ($\overline{D}{}^{\ast} \overline{D}$) molecular component in the $T_{cc}^+$ ($T_{\bar c\bar c}^-$ ) wave-function. Owing to the different nature of the $D^{(*)}N$ and $\overline{D}{}^{(*)}N$ interactions, we find characteristic changes of the in-medium properties of the $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ and $T_{\bar c\bar c}(3875)^-$, which become increasingly visible as the density increases. The experimental confirmation of the found distinctive density-pattern will give support to the molecular picture of these tetraquark-like states, since in the case they were colourless compact quark structures the density behaviour of their respective nuclear medium spectral functions would likely be similar. Finally, we perform similar analyses for the isoscalar $J^P=1^+$ heavy-quark spin symmetry partners of the $T_{cc}^+$ ($T_{cc}^{*+}$) and the $T_{\bar c\bar c}^-$ ($T_{\bar c\bar c}^{*-}$) by considering the $D^{*0}D^{*+}$ and $\overline{D}{}^{*0} D^{*-}$ scattering $T-$matrices.

It is the result of a community effort, incorporating insights from a series of workshops conducted between March 2022 and April 2023. With a track record of over 25 years in delivering the world's most intense and precise multi-GeV electron beams, CEBAF's potential for a higher energy upgrade presents a unique opportunity for an innovative nuclear physics program, which seamlessly integrates a rich historical background with a promising future. The proposed physics program encompass a diverse range of investigations centered around the nonperturbative dynamics inherent in hadron structure and the exploration of strongly interacting systems. It builds upon the exceptional capabilities of CEBAF in high-luminosity operations, the availability of existing or planned Hall equipment, and recent advancements in accelerator technology. The proposed program cover various scientific topics, including Hadron Spectroscopy, Partonic Structure and Spin, Hadronization and Transverse Momentum, Spatial Structure, Mechanical Properties, Form Factors and Emergent Hadron Mass, Hadron-Quark Transition, and Nuclear Dynamics at Extreme Conditions, as well as QCD Confinement and Fundamental Symmetries. Each topic highlights the key measurements achievable at a 22 GeV CEBAF accelerator. Furthermore, this document outlines the significant physics outcomes and unique aspects of these programs that distinguish them from other existing or planned facilities. In summary, this document provides an exciting rationale for the energy upgrade of CEBAF to 22 GeV, outlining the transformative scientific potential that lies within reach, and the remarkable opportunities it offers for advancing our understanding of hadron physics and related fundamental phenomena.

The study of $J/ψ$ photoproduction at low energies has consequences for the understanding of multiple aspects of nonperturbative QCD, ranging from mechanical properties of the proton, to the binding inside nuclei, and the existence of hidden-charm pentaquarks. Factorization of the photon-$c \bar c$ and nucleon dynamics or Vector Meson Dominance are often invoked to justify these studies. Alternatively, open charm intermediate states have been proposed as the dominant mechanism underlying $J/ψ$ photoproduction. As the latter violates this factorization, it is important to estimate the relevance of such contributions. We analyse the latest differential and integrated photoproduction cross sections from the GlueX and $J/ψ$-007 experiments. We show that the data can be adequately described by a small number of partial waves, which we parameterize with generic models enforcing low-energy unitarity. The results suggest a nonnegligible contribution from open charm intermediate states. Furthermore, most of the models present an elastic scattering length incompatible with previous extractions based on Vector Meson Dominance, and thus call into question its applicability to heavy mesons. Our results indicate a wide array of physics possibilities that are compatible with present data and need to be disentangled.

These exotic states owe their existence to the nonperturbative dynamics of Goldstone-boson scattering off $D_{(s)}$. The predicted correlation functions could be experimentally measured and will shed light into the hadron spectrum confirming that it should be viewed as more than a collection of quark model states.

We develop a formalism that allows us to factorize the scattering amplitudes outside the integrals in the formulas, and the integrals involve the range of the strong interaction explicitly. For a source of size of 1 fm, we find values for the correlation functions of the $D^0 D^{*+}$ and $D^+D^{*0}$ channels at the origin around 30 and 2.5, respectively, and we see these observables converging to unity already for relative momenta of the order of 200 MeV. We conduct tests to see the relevance of the different contributions to the correlation function and find that it mostly provides information on the scattering length, since the presence of the source function in the correlation function introduces an effective cut in the loop integrals that makes them quite insensitive to the range of the interaction.

The purpose of this work is to offer a complementary tool to see if the $X(3930)$ state observed in the $D^+ D^-$ channel is the same or not as the $X(3960)$ resonance claimed by the LHCb collaboration from a peak in the $D^{+}_s D^{-}_s$ mass distribution around threshold. We present results for what we expect in the $J/ψω$ mass distribution in the $B^- \to K^- J/ψω$ decay and conclude that a clear signal should be seen around $3930\,\rm MeV$. At the same time, finding no extra resonance signal at $3960\,\rm MeV$ would be a clear indication that there is not a new state at $3960\,\rm MeV$, supporting the hypothesis that the near-threshold peaking structure peak in the $D^{+}_s D^{-}_s$ mass distribution is only a manifestation of a resonance below threshold.

Abstract:
Recently, the LHCb Collaboration reported a near-threshold enhancement, $X(3960)$, in the $D_s^+D_s^-$ invariant mass distribution. Recently, the LHCb Collaboration reported a near-threshold enhancement, $X(3960)$, in the $D_s^+D_s^-$ invariant mass distribution. We show that the data can be well described by either a bound or a virtual state below the $D_s^+D_s^-$ threshold. The mass given by the pole position is $(3928\pm3)$ MeV. Using this mass and the existing information on the $X(3872)$ and $Z_c(3900)$ resonances, a complete spectrum of the $S$-wave hadronic molecules formed by a pair of ground state charmed and anticharmed mesons is established. Thus, pole positions of the partners of the $X(3872)$, $Z_c(3900)$ and the newly observed $D_s^+D_s^-$ state are predicted. Calculations have been carried out at the leading order of nonrelativistic effective field theory and considering both heavy quark spin and light flavor SU(3) symmetries, though conservative errors from the breaking of these symmetries are provided.

Recent decades have seen a resurge of interest in hadron spectroscopy, driven by new, high-luminosity experiments which have identified many new hadrons, both expected and unexpected. The large number of unexpected hadrons suggest contributions from additional quark and gluonic degrees of freedom to the hadronic spectrum beyond the basic quark model. Photoproduction has emerged as an attractive process to study hadron spectroscopy, due to the range of states accessible in new and planned experimental facilities, complimentary kinematics to other experiments where rescattering effects near thresholds are reduced, and advances in our theoretical understanding of these reactions. This white paper reviews the prospects for hadron spectroscopy from three major existing and proposed facilities: the current GlueX experiment, the planned Electron-Ion Collider, and a proposed JLab 24 GeV upgrade.

We discuss a model-independent estimator of the likelihood of the compositeness of a shallow S-wave bound or virtual state. The approach is based on an extension of Weinberg's relations in Phys. Rev. 137, B672 (1965) and it relies only on the proximity of the energy of the state to the two-hadron threshold to which it significantly couples. The scheme only makes use of the experimental scattering length and the effective range low energy parameters, and it is shown to be fully consistent for predominantly molecular hadrons. As explicit applications, we analyse the case of the deuteron, the $^1{\rm S}_0$ nucleon-nucleon virtual state and the exotic $D^{\ast}_{s0}(2317)^\pm$, and find strong support to the molecular interpretation in all cases. Results are less conclusive for the $D^{\ast}_{s0}(2317)^\pm$, since the binding energy of this state is significantly higher than that of the deuteron, and the approach employed here is at the limit of its applicability. We also qualitatively address the case of the recently discovered $T_{cc}^+$ state, within the isospin limit to avoid the complexity of the very close thresholds $D^0D^{\ast +}$ and $D^+D^{\ast 0}$, which could mask the ingredients of the approach proposed in this work.

We have performed a combined analysis of the BESIII data for both the $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_{cs}(3985)$ structures, assuming that the latter is an SU(3) flavor partner of the former one. We have improved on the previous analysis of Albaladejo $et$ $al.$ [Phys. Lett. B 755, 337 (2016)] by computing the amplitude for the $D_1\bar{D}D^*$ triangle diagram considering both $D$ and $S$-wave $D_1D^*π$ couplings. We have also investigated effects from SU(3) light-flavor violations, which are found to be moderate and of the order of 20%. The successful reproduction of the BESIII spectra, in both the hidden-charm and hidden-charm strange sectors, strongly supports that the $Z_{cs}(3985)$ and $Z_c(3900)$ are SU(3) flavor partners placed in the same octet multiplet. The best results are obtained when an energy-dependent term in the diagonal $D^{(*)}\bar D_{(s)}^{(*)}$ interaction is included, leading to resonances (poles above the thresholds) to describe these exotic states. We have also made predictions for the isovector $Z_{c}^*$ and isodoublet $Z_{cs}^*$, $D^*\bar{D}^*$ and $D^*\bar{D}_{s}^*$ molecules, with $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$ and $J^{P}=1^{+}$, respectively. These states would be heavy-quark spin symmetry partners of the $Z_{c}$ and $Z_{cs}$. Besides the determination of the masses and widths of the $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_{cs}(3985)$, we also predict those of the $Z_c^*$ and $Z_{cs}^*$ resonances.

A coupled channel analysis of the $D^{\ast+}D^0$ and $D^{\ast0}D^+$ system is performed to study the doubly charmed $T_{cc}^+$ state recently discovered by the LHCb collaboration. We use a simple model for the scattering amplitude that allows us to describe well the experimental spectrum, and obtain the $T_{cc}^+$ pole in the coupled channel $T$-matrix. We find that this bound state has a large molecular component. The isospin ($I=0$ or $I=1$) of the state cannot be inferred from the $D^0 D^0 π^+$ spectrum alone. Therefore, we use the same formalism to predict other $DDπ$ spectra. In the case the $T_{cc}^+$ has $I=1$, we also predict the location of the other two members ($T_{cc}^{++}$ and $T_{cc}^0$) of the triplet. Finally, using Heavy-Quark Spin Symmetry, we predict the location of possible heavier $D^\ast D^\ast$ ($I=0$ or $I=1$) partners.

Understanding the dynamics and backgrounds associated to $η^{(\prime)}π$ production above the resonance region is required to impose additional constraints to the resonance extraction. We consider the reaction $π^-p\to η^{(\prime)} π^- \,p$ measured by COMPASS. We show that the data in $2.4 < m_{η^{(\prime)}π} < 3.0$ GeV can be described by amplitudes based on double-Regge exchanges. The angular distribution of the meson pairs, in particular in the $η' π$ channel, can be attributed to flavor singlet exchanges, suggesting the presence of a large gluon content that couples strongly to the produced mesons.

This report describes the physics case, the resulting detector requirements, and the evolving detector concepts for the experimental program at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). The EIC will be a powerful new high-luminosity facility in the United States with the capability to collide high-energy electron beams with high-energy proton and ion beams, providing access to those regions in the nucleon and nuclei where their structure is dominated by gluons. Moreover, polarized beams in the EIC will give unprecedented access to the spatial and spin structure of the proton, neutron, and light ions. The studies leading to this document were commissioned and organized by the EIC User Group with the objective of advancing the state and detail of the physics program and developing detector concepts that meet the emerging requirements in preparation for the realization of the EIC. The effort aims to provide the basis for further development of concepts for experimental equipment best suited for the science needs, including the importance of two complementary detectors and interaction regions.
This report consists of three volumes. Volume I is an executive summary of our findings and developed concepts. In Volume II we describe studies of a wide range of physics measurements and the emerging requirements on detector acceptance and performance. Volume III discusses general-purpose detector concepts and the underlying technologies to meet the physics requirements. These considerations will form the basis for a world-class experimental program that aims to increase our understanding of the fundamental structure of all visible matter

Next, we consider also mixed-molecular scenarios and, in all cases, we determine the corresponding $X(3872)$ spectral function and the $D \bar D^*$ amplitude, with the mesons embedded in the dense environment. We find important nuclear corrections for $T_{D \bar D^*}$ and the pole position of the resonance, and discuss the dependence of these results on the $D \bar D^*$ molecular component in the $X(3872)$ wave-function. These predictions could be tested in the finite-density regime that can be accessed in the future CBM and PANDA experiments at FAIR.

The XYZ states have not been seen in photon-induced reactions so far. Their observation in such processes would provide an independent confirmation of their existence and offer new insights into their internal structure. Based on the known experimental data and the well-established quarkonium and Regge phenomenology, we give estimates for the exclusive cross sections of several XYZ states. For energies near threshold we expect cross sections of few nanobarns for the Zc(3900)+ and upwards of tens of nanobarn for the X(3872), which are well within reach of new facilities.

We conclude that new measurements of f2 photoproduction in the forward region are needed to pin down the correct production mechanism. We present a general formalism to write the decay amplitude for multibody reactions with explicit separation of the rotational degrees of freedom, which are well controlled by the spin of the decay particle, and dynamic functions on the subchannel invariant masses, which require modeling. Using the three-particle kinematics we demonstrate the proposed factorization, named the Dalitz-plot decomposition. The Wigner rotations, that are subtle factors needed by the isobar modeling in the helicity framework, are simplified with the proposed decomposition. Consequently, we are able to provide them in an explicit form suitable for the general case of arbitrary spins. The only unknown model-dependent factors are the isobar lineshapes that describe the subchannel dynamics. The advantages of the new decomposition are shown through three examples relevant for the recent discovery of the exotic charmonium candidate $Z_c(4430)$, the pentaquarks $P_c$, and the intriguing $Λ_c^+\to pK^-π^+$ decay.

Khuri-Treiman equations have proven to be a useful theoretical tool in the analysis of 3-body decays, specially into the $3π$ final state. In this work we present in full detail the necessary generalization of the formalism to study the decays of particles with arbitrary spin, parity, and charge conjugation. To this extent, we find it most convenient to work with helicity amplitudes instead of the so-called invariant amplitudes, specially when dealing with the unitarity relations. The isobar expansions in the three possible ($s$-, $t$-, and $u$-) final channels are related with the appropriate crossing matrices. We pay special attention to the kinematical singularities and constraints of the helicity amplitudes, showing that these can be derived by means of the crossing matrix.

In the search for exotic mesons, the GlueX collaboration will soon extract moments of the $ηπ^0$ angular distribution. In the perspective of these results, we generalize the formalism of moment extraction to the case in which the two mesons are produced with a linearly polarized beam, and build a model for the reaction $\vec γp \to ηπ^0 p$. The model includes resonant $S$-, $P$-, $D$-waves in $ηπ^0$, produced by natural exchanges. Moments of the $ηπ^0$ angular distribution are computed with and without the $P$-wave, to illustrate the sensitivity to exotic resonances. Although little sensitivity to the $P$-wave is found in moments of even angular momentum, moments of odd angular momentum are proportional to the interference between the $P$-wave and the dominant $S$- and $D$-waves. We also generalize the definition of the beam asymmetry for two mesons photoproduction and show that, when the meson momenta are perpendicular to the reaction plane, the beam asymmetry enhances the sensitivity to the exotic $P$-wave.

In view of this endeavour, we present the modeling of the resonant contributions to the inclusive electron scattering observables. As input, we use the existing CLAS electrocoupling results obtained from exclusive meson electroproduction data off protons, and evaluate for the first time the resonant contributions based on the experimental results on the nucleon resonance electroexcitation. The uncertainties are given by the data and duly propagated through a Monte Carlo approach. In this way, we obtain estimates for the resonant contributions, important for insight into the nucleon parton distributions in the resonance region and for the studies of quark-hadron duality.

Mapping states with explicit gluonic degrees of freedom in the light sector is a challenge, and has led to controversies in the past. In particular, the experiments have reported two different hybrid candidates with spin-exotic signature, pi1(1400) and pi1(1600), which couple separately to eta pi and eta' pi. This picture is not compatible with recent Lattice QCD estimates for hybrid states, nor with most phenomenological models. We consider the recent partial wave analysis of the eta(') pi system by the COMPASS collaboration. We fit the extracted intensities and phases with a coupled-channel amplitude that enforces the unitarity and analyticity of the S-matrix. We provide a robust extraction of a single exotic pi1 resonant pole, with mass and width 1564 +- 24 +- 86 MeV and 492 +- 54 +- 102 MeV, which couples to both eta(') pi channels. We find no evidence for a second exotic state. We also provide the resonance parameters of the a2(1320) and a2'(1700).

The interaction is known to be dominated by the axial meson $a_1(1260)$. We build a model based on approximate three-body unitarity and fix the free parameters by fitting it to the ALEPH data on $τ^-\to π^-π^+π^-\,ν_τ$ decay. We then perform the analytic continuation of the amplitude to the complex energy plane. The singularity structures related to the $ππ$ subchannel resonances are carefully addressed. Finally, we extract the $a_1(1260)$ pole position $m_p^{(a_1(1260))}-iΓ_p^{(a_1(1260))}/2$ with $m_p^{(a_1(1260))} = (1209 \pm 4^{+12}_{-9})\text{MeV}$, $Γ_p^{(a_1(1260))} = (576 \pm 11 ^{+89}_{-20})\text{MeV}$}.

We assess the importance of the imaginary part of the poles (widths) to obtain a consistent determination of the parameters of the Regge trajectory. We compare the several pole extractions and show how Regge phenomenology can be used to gain insight in the internal structure of baryons. We find that the majority of the states in the parent Regge trajectories are compatible with a mostly compact three-quark state picture.

Recent lattice QCD studies, incorporating the effects of the $D^{(\ast)}K$ channels, analyzed these spin-parity sectors and correctly described the $D^\ast_{s0}(2317)-D_{s1}(2460)$ mass splitting. Motivated by such works, we study the structure of the $D_{s0}^\ast(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ resonances in the framework of an effective field theory consistent with heavy quark spin symmetry, and that incorporates the interplay between $D^{(\ast)}K$ meson-meson degrees of freedom and bare P-wave $c\bar s$ states predicted by constituent quark models. We extend the scheme to finite volumes and fit the strength of the coupling between both types of degrees of freedom to the available lattice levels, which we successfully describe. We finally estimate the size of the $D^{(\ast)}K$ two-meson components in the $D^\ast_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ resonances, and we conclude that these states have a predominantly hadronic-molecular structure, and that it should not be tried to accommodate these mesons within $c\bar{s}$ constituent quark model patterns.

The Khuri-Treiman formalism models the partial-wave expansion of a scattering amplitude as a sum of three individual truncated series, capturing the low-energy dynamics of the direct and cross channels. We cast this formalism into dispersive equations to study $ππ$ scattering, and compare their expressions and numerical output to the Roy and GKPY equations. We prove that the Khuri-Treiman equations and Roy equations coincide when both are truncated to include only $S$- and $P$-waves. When higher partial waves are included, we find an excellent agreement between the Khuri-Treiman and the GKPY results. This lends credence to the notion that the Khuri-Treiman formalism is a reliable low-energy tool for studying hadronic reaction amplitudes.

As input, we employ unitarized heavy meson-Goldstone boson chiral coupled-channel amplitudes for the energy regions not far from thresholds, while, at high energies, adequate asymptotic conditions are imposed. The scalar form factors are expressed in terms of Omnès matrices multiplied by vector polynomials, which contain some undetermined dispersive subtraction constants. We make use of heavy quark and chiral symmetries to constrain these constants, which are fitted to lattice QCD results both in the charm and the bottom sectors, and in this latter sector to the light-cone sum rule predictions close to $q^2=0$ as well. We find a good simultaneous description of the scalar form factors for the four semileptonic decay reactions. From this combined fit, and taking advantage that scalar and vector form factors are equal at $q^2=0$, we obtain $|V_{cd}|=0.244\pm 0.022$, $|V_{cs}|=0.945\pm 0.041$ and $|V_{ub}|=(4.3\pm 0.7)\times10^{-3}$ for the involved Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements. In addition, we predict the following vector form factors at $q^2=0$: $|f_+^{D\toη}(0)|=0.01\pm 0.05$, $|f_+^{D_s\to K}(0)|=0.50 \pm 0.08$, $|f_+^{D_s\toη}(0)|=0.73\pm 0.03$ and $|f_+^{\bar{B}\toη}(0)|=0.82 \pm 0.08$, which might serve as alternatives to determine the CKM elements when experimental measurements of the corresponding differential decay rates become available. Finally, we predict the different form factors above the $q^2-$regions accessible in the semileptonic decays, up to moderate energies amenable to be described using the unitarized coupled-channel chiral approach.

Since 2003 many new hadrons, including the lowest-lying positive-parity charm-strange mesons ${D_{s0}^*(2317)}$ and ${D_{s1}(2460)}$, were observed that do not conform with quark model expectations. It was recently demonstrated that various puzzles in the charm meson spectrum find a natural resolution, if the SU(3) multiplets for the lightest scalar and axial-vector states, amongst them the ${D_{s0}^*(2317)}$ and the ${D_{s1}(2460)}$, owe their existence to the nonperturbative dynamics of Goldstone-Boson scattering off $D_{(s)}$ and $D^*_{(s)}$ mesons. Most importantly the ordering of the lightest strange and nonstrange scalars becomes natural. In this work we demonstrate for the first time that this mechanism is strongly supported by the recent high quality data on the ${B^-\to D^+π^-π^- }$ provided by the LHCb experiment. This implies that the lowest quark-model positive-parity charm mesons, together with their bottom counterparts, if realized in nature, do not form the ground-state multiplet. This is similar to the pattern that has been established for the scalar mesons made from light up, down and strange quarks, where the lowest multiplet is considered to be made of states not described by the quark model. In a broader view, the hadron spectrum must be viewed as more than a collection of quark model states.

We discuss the differences between several partial wave analysis formalisms used in the literature to build the amplitudes. We match the helicity amplitudes to the covariant tensor basis. Hereby, we pay attention to the analytical properties of the amplitudes and separate singularities of kinematical and dynamical nature. We study the analytical properties of the spin-orbit (LS) formalism, and some of the covariant tensor approaches. In particular, we explicitly build the amplitudes for the B -> psi pi K and B -> Dbar pi pi decays, and show that the energy dependence of the covariant approach is model dependent. We also show that the usual recursive construction of covariant tensors explicitly violates crossing symmetry, which would lead to different resonance parameters extracted from scattering and decay processes.

As inputs, we employ the unitarized amplitudes taken from chiral effective theory for the region not far away from thresholds, while, at higher energies of the Goldstone bosons, proper asymptotic conditions are employed. Within Muskhelishvili-Omnès formalism, the scalar form factors are represented in terms of Omnès matrix multiplied by a vector of polynomials. We reduce the number of subtraction constants by matching to the scalar form factors derived in chiral perturbation theory up to next-to-leading order. The recent lattice QCD data by ETM collaboration for ${D\toπ}$ and ${D\to\bar{K}}$ scalar form factors are simultaneously well described. The scalar form factors for $D\toη$, $D_s\to \bar{K}$ and $D_s\to η$ transitions are predicted in their whole kinematical regions. Using our fitting parameters, we also extract the following Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa elements: $|V_{cd}|=0.243(_{-12}^{+11})_{\rm sta.}({3})_{\rm sys.}(3)_{\rm exp.}$ and $|V_{cs}|=0.950(_{-40}^{+39})_{\rm sta.}(1)_{\rm sys.}(7)_{\rm exp.}$. Recent experiments on $η\to 3π$ decays have provided an extremely precise knowledge of the amplitudes across the Dalitz region which represent stringent constraints on theoretical descriptions. We reconsider an approach in which the low-energy chiral expansion is assumed to be optimally convergent in an unphysical region surrounding the Adler zero, and the amplitude in the physical region is uniquely deduced by an analyticity-based extrapolation using the Khuri-Treiman dispersive formalism. We present an extension of the usual formalism which implements the leading inelastic effects from the $K\bar{K}$ channel in the final-state $ππ$ interaction as well as in the initial-state $ηπ$ interaction. The constructed amplitude has an enlarged region of validity and accounts in a realistic way for the influence of the two light scalar resonances $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ in the dispersive integrals. It is shown that the effect of these resonances in the low energy region of the $η\to 3π$ decay is not negligible, in particular for the $3π^0$ mode, and improves the description of the energy variation across the Dalitz plot. Some remarks are made on the scale dependence and the value of the double quark mass ratio $Q$.

The discovery of the $D^\ast_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ resonances in the charmed-strange meson spectra revealed that formerly successful constituent quark models lose predictability in the vicinity of two-meson thresholds. The emergence of non-negligible effects due to meson loops requires an explicit evaluation of the interplay between $Q\bar q$ and $(Q\bar q)(q\bar q)$ Fock components. In contrast to the $c\bar s$ sector, there is no experimental evidence of $J^P=0^+,1^+$ bottom-strange states yet. Motivated by recent lattice studies, in this work the heavy-quark partners of the $D_{s0}^\ast(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ states are analyzed within a heavy meson chiral unitary scheme. As a novelty, the coupling between the constituent quark model P-wave $\bar B_s$ scalar and axial mesons and the $\bar B^{(\ast)}K$ channels is incorporated employing an effective interaction, consistent with heavy quark spin symmetry, constrained by the lattice energy levels.
