The $^{12}$C(p,2p)$^{11}$B reaction at $E_p =98.7$ MeV proton beam energy is analyzed using a rigorous three-particle scattering formalism extended to include the internal excitation of the nuclear core or residual nucleus. The excitation proceeds via the core interaction with any of the external nucleons. We assume the $^{11}$B ground and low-lying excited states [$\frac32^-$ (0.0 MeV), $\frac52^-$ (4.45 MeV), $\frac72^-$ (6.74 MeV)] and the excited states [$\frac12^-$ (2.12 MeV), $\frac32^-$ (5.02 MeV)] to be members of $K=\frac32^-$ and $K=\frac12^-$ rotational bands, respectively. The dynamical core excitation results in a significant cross section for the reaction leading to the $\frac52^-$ (4.45 MeV) excited state of $^{11}$B that cannot be populated through the single-particle excitation mechanism. The detailed agreement between the theoretical calculations and data depends on the used optical model parametrizations and the kinematical configuration of the detected nucleons.

Proton-deuteron elastic scattering is considered in the framework of momentum-space Faddeev equations with the screening method for the Coulomb interaction. It is shown how the interplay of the proton-proton Coulomb potential and the deuteron pole in the neutron-proton transition operator leads to coinciding singularities in the Faddeev equation. As a consequence, the renormalization of the scattering amplitude is needed in the unscreened Coulomb limit. This finding possibly explains why no need for the renormalization was conjectured in a previous work [Witała et al., Eur.~Phys.~J.~A 41, 369 (2009)] missing the coincidence of those singularities.

The inelastic deuteron-${}^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$ scattering leading to the excited ${}^{24}\mathrm{Mg}(2^+)$ state is studied in the same energy regime by solving the three-body Faddeev-type equations for transition operators. Effects of the optical potential nonlocality are evaluated by comparison with local models. Significant effects on the inelastic differential cross section are found at forward angles up to the first peak and at larger angles beyond the second peak. Nonlocal optical potential provides a simultaneous reasonable reproduction of the experimental data for the elastic and inelastic proton-${}^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$ and deuteron-${}^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$ scattering, not achieved using local potentials.

The values of spectroscopic factors consistent with the data are determined, exhibiting only weak energy dependence. The Hamiltonian couples the purely nucleonic sector of Hilbert space with a sector in which one nucleon is excited to a $Δ$ isobar. The interaction consists of irreducible two-baryon and irreducible three-baryon potentials. The calculation keeps only the purely nucleonic one among the irreducible three-baryon potentials. The coupled-channel two-baryon potential yields additional reducible contributions to the three-nucleon force. The Coulomb interaction between the two protons is included using the method of screening and renormalization. Three-nucleon force effects on the bound-state energies and on observables of elastic nucleon-deuteron scattering and breakup are studied.

The strong short-range repulsion, characteristic to realistic interatomic potentials, complicates the description of weakly-bound few-body systems such as those of \He atoms. The present work proposes an approach for solving this problem and applies it to a realistic system of four ${}^4\mathrm{He}$ atoms. The potential is gradually softened such that rigorous four-body equations for bound and scattering tates can be accurately solved in the momentum-space framework, and the results are extrapolated back to the limit of the original potential. Linear correlations between three- and four body quantities are observed, and the accuracy of the procedure is improved by extrapolating in one of the three-body quantities. Results for the ${}^4\mathrm{He}$ tetramer ground and excited state binding energies and atom-trimer scattering agree well with at least some of earlier determinations and shed light on the existing disagreements. An additional case of the Phillips correlation line is established for the dimer-dimer scattering length. The trimer production rate via the ultracold two-dimer collisions is estimated, it exhibits significant finite-range effects despite the weak binding of the dimer.

The part of this region with negative two-boson scattering length is studied solving rigorous four-particle scattering equations for transition operators in the momentum space. Moving away from the unitary limit the Efimov tetramers evolve from unstable bound states into resonances. Their energies and widths are studied as functions of the two-boson scattering length; a universal behavior is established and given in a dimensionless representation. The Efimov tetramers have finite width in the whole regime; they broaden rapidly in the resonance regime but remain narrower than the associated trimer. The resonant behavior is most clearly seen in the four-particle recombination rate.

In the systems of spin $\frac12$ fermions with resonant $S$-wave interactions supporting only weakly bound dimers the antisymmetry forbids recombination of three (or more) fermions at zero energy. However, the fermion-fermion-dimer recombination is only partially suppressed. It is studied in the framework of momentum-space integral equations for the four-particle transition operators. In the vicinity of the unitary limit the fermion-fermion-dimer recombination rate, rescaled to build dimensionless quantity, is found to be linear in the effective range parameter, enabling a simple and accurate parametrization as well as evaluation of finite-range effects for any potential model. This feature makes the present results very useful in benchmarking different methods for three-cluster breakup and recombination calculations in four-particle systems. The interplay of the three-fermion and fermion-fermion-dimer recombination processes and their consequences for ultracold mixtures of fermions and dimers is discussed.

We consider the system of three ${}^4$He atoms to assess whether a pure van der Waals potential can be used as a starting point for an effective field theory to describe three-body processes in ultracold atomic systems. Using a long-range van der Waals interaction in combination with short-distance two-body counterterms, we analyze the dependence of two- and three-body observables on the short-distance regulator that is required due to the singular nature of the van der Waals interaction. We benchmark our approach with results obtained with the realistic ${}^4$He-${}^4$He LM2M2 interaction and find good agreement. We furthermore show that in this effective field theory approach no three-body force is required at leading order and that universal van der Waals physics leads to a universal correlation between three-body observables in the absence of an Efimov three-body parameter.

We present a precise measurement of the cross section, proton and $\rm ^3He$ analyzing powers, and spin correlation coefficient $C_{y,y}$ for $p$-$\rm ^3He$ elastic scattering near 65 MeV, and a comparison with rigorous four-nucleon scattering calculations based on realistic nuclear potentials and a model with $Δ$-isobar excitation. Clear discrepancies are seen in some of the measured observables in the regime around the cross section minimum. Theoretical predictions using scaling relations between the calculated cross section and the $\rm ^3 He$ binding energy are not successful in reproducing the data. Large sensitivity to the $NN$ potentials and rather small $Δ$-isobar effects in the calculated cross section are noticed as different features from those in the deuteron-proton elastic scattering. The results obtained above indicate that $p$-$\rm ^3He$ scattering at intermediate energies is an excellent tool to explore nuclear interactions not accessible by three-nucleon scattering.

Three-boson Efimov physics is well known in the bound-state regime, but far less in the three-particle continuum at negative two-particle scattering length where Efimov states evolve into resonances. They are studied solving rigorous three-particle scattering equations for transition operators in the momentum space. The dependence of the three-boson resonance energy and width on the two-boson scattering length is studied with several force models. The universal limit is determined numerically considering highly excited states; simple parametrizations for the resonance energy and width in terms of the scattering length are established. Decreasing the attraction, the resonances rise not much above the threshold but broaden rapidly and become physically unobservable, evolving into subthreshold resonances. Finite-range effects are studied and related to those in the bound-state regime.

Various theoretical descriptions have been used to describe these reactions, such as the Distorted-Wave Impulse Approximation (DWIA), the Faddeev-type formalism and the Transfer to the Continuum method. Our goal is to benchmark the observables computed with the Faddeev and Transfer to the Continuum formalisms in the intermediate energy regime relevant for the experimental (p, pn) and (p, 2p) studies. In this paper, we analyze the 11 Be(p,pn)10Be reaction for different beam energies, binding energies and orbital quantum numbers with both formalisms to assess their agreement for different observables. We obtain a good agreement in all cases considered, within 10%, when the input potentials are taken consistently and realistically.

A selection of measured cross sections and vector analyzing powers, Ax and Ay, are presented for the pd break-up reaction. The data are taken with a polarized proton beam energy of 135 MeV using the Big Instrument for Nuclear-polarization Analysis (BINA) at KVI, the Netherlands. With this setup, Ax is extracted for the first time for a large range of energies as well as polar and azimuthal angles of the two outgoing protons. For most of the configurations, the results at small and large relative azimuthal angles differ in behavior when comparing experimental data with the theoretical calculations. We also performed a more global comparison of our data with theoretical calculations using a chi-square ($χ^2$) analysis. The cross-section results show huge values of $χ^2$/d.o.f.. The absolute values of $χ^2$/d.o.f. for the components of vector analyzing powers, Ax and Ay, are smaller than the ones for the cross section, partly due to larger uncertainties for these observables. However, also for these observables no satisfactory agreement is found for all angular combinations. This implies that the present models of a three-nucleon force are not able to provide a satisfactory description of experimental data.

A measurement of the analyzing powers for the $^2$H$(\vec{p},pp)n$ break-up reaction was carried out at KVI exploiting a polarized-proton beam at an energy of 135 MeV. The scattering angles and energies of the final-state protons were measured using the Big Instrument for Nuclear-polarization Analysis (BINA) with a nearly $4π$ geometrical acceptance. In this work, we analyzed a large number of kinematical geometries including forward-forward configurations in which both the final-state particles scatter to small polar angles and backward-forward configurations in which one of the final-state particles scatters to large polar angles. The results are compared with Faddeev calculations based on modern nucleon-nucleon (NN) and three-nucleon (3N) potentials. Discrepancies between polarization data and theoretical predictions are observed for configurations corresponding to small relative azimuthal angles between the two final-state protons. These configurations show a large sensitivity to 3N force effects.

Differential cross sections for deuteron breakup $^{1}H(d, pp)n$ reaction were measured for a large set of 243 geometrical configurations at the beam energy of 80 MeV/nucleon. The cross section data are normalized by the luminosity factor obtained on the basis of simultaneous measurement of elastic scattering channel and the existing cross section data for this process. The results are compared to the theoretical calculations modeling nuclear interaction with and without taking into account the three-nucleon force (3NF) and Coulomb interaction. In the validated region of the phase space both the Coulomb force and 3NF play an important role in a good description of the data. There are also regions, where the improvements of description due to including 3NF are not sufficient.

Understanding of the exact nature of three-nucleon forces is the most challenging topic in the field of nuclear physics. Three-nucleon break-up reaction is a good tool to look into the underlying dynamics of the nuclear force, thanks to its rich kinematical phase space which has different levels of sensitivity to three-nucleon force effects. The recent studies on few-nucleon systems have revealed that the current nuclear force models cannot describe nucleon-deuteron scattering data accurately. In the present work, the analyzing powers of the proton-deuteron break-up reaction obtained using a 190 MeV polarized proton beam will be discussed. We present for the first time the vector analyzing powers for the kinematics in which one of the protons scatters to intermediate and large scattering angles at this energy. The results show a fairly good agreement with various theoretical predictions for both intermediate and large scattering angles of the break-up phase space.

Background: Several previous studies provided contradicting results for the four-neutron system, some claiming the existence of a 0+ near-threshold resonance, others denying presence of any observable resonant states. Purpose: Since most of the studies employed enhanced two-neutron interactions to follow the evolution of an artificially bound state into a continuum one, we examine several enhancement schemes that produce a bound dineutron as well. Methods: We study the four-neutron system by solving exact four-particle equations. By varying the interaction enhancement factor we calculate two-dineutron scattering phase shifts and cross sections. Results: When the same enhancement factor is used in all partial waves, a bound tetraneutron emerges together with a strongly bound dineutron. Furthermore, such a 0+ tetraneutron evolves not into a resonance but into a virtual state. Weak enhancement of S waves together with strongly enhanced higher waves is needed for the emergence of the resonant state. Anyhow the resonant behavior disappears well before reaching the physical interaction strength. Conclusions: The interaction enhancement scheme using the same factor for all waves, employed in several previous works, is misleading for the search of 0+ resonance as only a virtual state can emerge. Evolution of a bound tetraneutron into a resonance via an intermediate virtual state is possible with strong enhancement of higher two-neutron waves.

{\bf Background} Deuteron induced reactions are widely used to probe nuclear structure and astrophysical information. Those (d,p) reactions may be viewed as three-body reactions and described with Faddeev techniques.
{\bf Purpose} Faddeev-AGS equations in momentum space have a long tradition of utilizing separable interactions in order to arrive at sets of coupled integral equations in one variable. However, it needs to be demonstrated that observables calculated based on separable interactions agree exactly with those based on nonseparable forces.
{\bf Methods} Momentum space AGS equations are solved with separable and nonseparable forces as coupled integral equations.
{\bf Results} Deuteron-alpha scattering is calculated via momentum space AGS equations using the CD-Bonn neutron-proton force and a Woods-Saxon type neutron(proton)-$^4$He force, for which the Pauli-forbidden S-wave bound state is projected out. Elastic as well as breakup observables are calculated and compared to results in which the interactions in the two-body sub-systems are represented by separable interactions derived in the Ernst-Shakin-Thaler (EST) framework. {\bf Conclusions} We find that the calculations based on the separable representation of the interactions and the original interactions give results that are in excellent agreement. Specifically, integrated cross sections and angular distributions for elastic scattering agree within $\approx$ 1\%, which is well below typical experimental errors. In addition, the five-fold differential cross sections corresponding to breakup of the deuteron agree extremely well.

Previous studies of $(d,p)$ reactions in three-body (proton, neutron, nuclear core) systems revealed a nontrivial effect of the core excitation: the transfer cross section cannot be factorized into the spectroscopic factor and the single-particle cross section obtained neglecting the core excitation. This observable, up to a kinematic factor, is the angular distribution of the core nucleus in the $(p,d)$ reaction. The study of the core excitation effect for the most closely related observable in the $(p,pn)$ three-body breakup, i.e., the core angular distribution, is aimed in the present work. Breakup of the one-neutron halo nucleus in the collision with the proton is described using three-body Faddeev-type equations extended to include the excitation of the nuclear core. The integral equations for transition operators are solved in the momentum-space partial-wave representation. Breakup of 11Be nucleus as well as of model $A=11$ $p$-wave nuclei is studied at beam energies of 30, 60, and 200 MeV per nucleon. Angular and momentum distributions for the 10Be core in ground and excited states is calculated. In sharp contrast to $(p,d)$ reactions, the differential cross section in most cases factorizes quite well into the spectroscopic factor and the single-particle cross section. Due to different reaction mechanisms the core excitation effect in the breakup is very different from transfer reactions. A commonly accepted approach to evaluate the cross section, i.e., the rescaling of single-particle model results by the corresponding spectroscopic factor, appears to be reliable for breakup though it fails in general for transfer reactions.

A set of differential cross section of the three-body $^{2}$H($d$,$dp$)$n$ breakup reaction at 160 MeV deuteron beam energy are presented for 147 kinematically complete configurations near the quasi-free scattering kinematics. The experiment was performed at KVI in Groningen, the Netherlands using the BINA detector. The cross-section data have been normalized to the $^{2}$H($d$,$d$)$^{2}$H elastic scattering cross section. The data are compared to the recent single-scattering approximation (SSA) calculations for three-cluster breakup in deuteron-deuteron collisions. Confronting the SSA predictions with the experimental data shows that SSA provides the correct order of magnitude of the cross-section data. The studied energy is probably too low to meet the SSA assumptions which prevents better accuracy of the description.

We study knockout reactions with proton probes within a theoretical framework where {\it ab initio} Quantum Monte Carlo wave functions are combined with the Faddeev/Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas few-body reaction formalism. New Quantum Monte Carlo wave functions are used to describe $^{12}$C, yielding, for the first time, results consistent with the experimental point rms radii, electron scattering data and (p,2p) total cross sections data. Our results for $\mathrm{A}\leq 12$ and $(N-Z) \leq 3$ nuclei show that the theoretical ratios between the (i) {\it ab initio} and Mean Field Approximation theoretical cross sections, $\mathcal{R}_σ$, (ii) corresponding ratios between the spectroscopic factors, $\mathcal{R}_Σ$, summed over states below particle emission, depend moderately on the nucleon separation energy S$_{\rm N}$. These ratios are determined by a delicate interplay between the radii of the parent and the residual nuclei and the nucleon separation energy, and were found to be always smaller for the knockout of the more correlated deficient species nucleon. In the case of the symmetric $^{12}$C nucleus, the theoretical ratios still appear to indicate that protons are more correlated than neutrons.

The verification of this unusual finding using more reliable methods is aimed for in the present work. A rigorous Faddeev-type three-body scattering theory is applied to the study of $(d,p)$ transfer reactions. The equations for transition operators are solved in the momentum-space partial-wave framework. Differential cross sections for $^{26}$Al$(d,p)^{27}$Al reactions are calculated using nonlocal nuclear optical potentials and a number of realistic $np$ potentials. Only a weak dependence on the $np$ force model is observed, typically one order of magnitude lower than in the previous ADWA study. The shape of the angular distribution of the experimental data is well reproduced. Cross sections of $(d,p)$ transfer reactions calculated using a rigorous three-body method show little sensitivity to the $np$ interaction model. This indicates a failure of the ADWA in the context of nonlocal potentials. Some evident shortcomings of the ADWA are pointed out.

These observables represent highly sensitive tools to investigate the electromagnetic and spin structure of $^3\mathrm{He}$ and the relative importance of two- and three-body effects involved in the breakup reaction dynamics. The measured asymmetries cannot be satisfactorily reproduced by state-of-the-art calculations of $^3\mathrm{He}$ unless their three-body segment is adjusted, indicating that the spin-dependent part of the nuclear interaction governing the three-body breakup process is much smaller than previously thought.

A direct study of the three-neutron continuum using rigorous scattering equations with realistic potentials and search for possible resonances is aimed. Faddeev-type integral equations for three-neutron transition operators are solved in the momentum-space partial-wave framework. The evolution of resonances is studied by enhancing the strength of the two-neutron interaction in partial waves with nonzero orbital momentum. Calculated three-neutron transition operators exhibit resonant behavior for sufficiently large enhancement factors; pole trajectories in the complex-energy energy plane are extracted from their energy dependence. However, the resonant behavior completely disappears for the physical interaction strength. There are no physically observable three-neutron resonant states consistent with presently accepted interaction models.

$n + n + {}^{18}$C model using a realistic $nn$ potential and a number of shallow and deep $n$-${}^{18}$C potentials, the latter supporting deeply-bound Pauli-forbidden states that are projected out. Exact Faddeev-type three-body scattering equations for transition operators including two- and three-body forces are solved in the momentum-space partial-wave framework. Phase shift, inelasticity parameter, and cross sections are calculated. For the elastic $n$-${}^{19}$C scattering in the $J^Π=0^+$ partial wave the signatures of the Efimov physics, i.e., the pole in the effective-range expansion and the elastic cross section minimum, are confirmed for both shallow and deep models, but with clear quantitative differences between them, indicating the importance of a proper treatment of deeply-bound Pauli-forbidden states. In contrast, the inelasticity parameter is mostly correlated with the asymptotic normalization coefficient of the ${}^{19}$C bound state. Finally, in the regime of very weak ${}^{19}$C binding and near-threshold (bound or virtual) excited ${}^{20}$C state the standard Efimovian behaviour of the $n$-${}^{19}$C scattering length and cross section was confirmed, resolving the discrepancies between earlier studies by other authors [I. The inclusion of the fourth-order momentum term in the ERE significantly extends its validity to higher collision energies. The dimer-dimer scattering length and effective range are determined in the unitary limit as well as their corrections arising due to the finite range of the two-fermion interaction. These results are of considerably higher accuracy as compared to previous works, but confirm most of the previous results except for the lattice effective field theory calculations.

${}^{20}\mathrm{O}(d,p){}^{21}\mathrm{O}$ transfer reactions are described using momentum-space Faddeev-type equations for transition operators and including the vibrational excitation of the ${}^{20}\mathrm{O}$ core. The available experimental cross section data at 10.5 MeV/nucleon beam energy for the ${}^{21}\mathrm{O}$ ground state $\frac52^+$ and excited state $\frac12^+$ are quite well reproduced by our calculations including the core excitation. Its effect can be roughly simulated reducing the single-particle cross section by the corresponding spectroscopic factor. Consequently, the extraction of the spectroscopic factors taking the ratio of experimental data and single-particle cross section at this energy is a reasonable procedure. However, at higher energies core-excitation effects are much more complicated and have no simple relation to spectroscopic factors. We found that core-excitation effects are qualitatively very different for reactions with the orbital angular momentum transfer $\ell=0$ and $\ell=2$, suppressing the cross sections for the former and enhancing for the latter, and changes the shape of the angular distribution in both cases. Furthermore, the core-excitation effect is a result of a complicated interplay between its contributions of the two- and three-body nature.

Differential cross sections, analyzing powers, polarizations, and spin transfer coefficients are obtained using realistic two-nucleon potentials and including the Coulomb repulsion between protons. Overall good agreement between predictions and experimental data is found. Most remarkable discrepancies are seen around the minima of the differential cross section at higher energies and in the outgoing nucleon polarization at lower energies.

Angular-momentum or parity-dependent nonlocal optical potentials for nucleon-${}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ scattering able to fit differential cross section data over the whole angular regime are developed and applied to the description of deuteron-${}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ scattering in the framework of three-body Faddeev-type equations for transition operators. Differential cross sections and deuteron analyzing powers for elastic scattering and ${}^{16}\mathrm{O}(d,p){}^{17}\mathrm{O}$ transfer reactions are calculated using a number of local and nonlocal optical potentials and compared with experimental data. Angular-momentum or parity-dependence of the optical potential turns out to be quite irrelevant in the considered three-body reactions while nonlocality is essential for a successful description of the differential cross section data, especially in transfer reactions.

[Background:] Recent work found that core excitation can be important in extracting structure information from (d,p) reactions. [Purpose:] Our objective is to systematically explore the role of core excitation in (d,p) reactions, and understand the origin of the dynamical effects. [Method:] Based on the particle-rotor model of $n+^{10}$Be, we generate a number of models with a range of separation energies ($S_n=0.1-5.0$ MeV), while maintaining a significant core excited component. We then apply the latest extension of the momentum-space based Faddeev method, including dynamical core excitation in the reaction mechanism to all orders, to the $^{10}$Be(d,p)$^{11}$Be like reactions, and study the excitation effects for beam energies from $E_d=15-90$ MeV. [Results:] We study the resulting angular distributions and the differences between the spectroscopic factor that would be extracted from the cross sections, when including dynamical core excitation in the reaction, to that of the original structure model. We also explore how different partial waves affect the final cross section. [Conclusions:] Our results show a strong beam energy dependence of the extracted spectroscopic factors that become smaller for intermediate beam energies. This dependence increases for loosely bound systems.

We present results for the three-cluster breakup in deuteron-deuteron collisions at 130 and 270 MeV deuteron beam energy. The breakup amplitude is calculated using the first term in the Neumann series expansion of the corresponding exact four-nucleon equations. In analogy with nucleon-deuteron breakup where an equivalent approximation is compared with exact calculations, we expect this single-scattering approximation to provide a rough estimation of three-body breakup observables in quasifree configurations. We predict the nucleon-deuteron and deuteron-deuteron three-cluster breakup cross sections to be of a comparable size and thereby question the reliability of the recent experimental data [A. Ramazani-Moghaddam-Arani, Ph.D. thesis, University of Groningen, 2009; A. Ramazani-Moghaddam-Arani et al., EPJ Web of Conferences 3, 04012 (2010)] that is smaller by about three orders of magnitude. We also show that an equivalent single-scattering approximation provides a reasonable description of deuteron-deuteron elastic scattering at forward scattering angles.

Exact Faddeev-type three-body equations are applied to the study of the proton transfer reactions $(d,n)$ in the system consisting of a nuclear core and two nucleons. The integral equations for the three-body transition operators are solved in the momentum-space framework including the Coulomb interaction via the screening and renormalization method. For a weakly bound final nucleus the calculation of the $(d,n)$ reaction is more demanding in terms of the screening radius as compared to the $(d,p)$ reaction. Well converged differential cross section results are obtained for $^{7}{Be}(d,n)^{8}{B}$, $^{12}{C}(d,n)^{13}{N}$, and $^{16}{O}(d,n)^{17}{F}$ reactions. A comparison with the corresponding $(d,p)$ reactions is made. The calculations fail to reproduce the shape of the angular distribution for reactions on $^{12}{C}$ but provide quite successful description for reactions on $^{16}{O}$, especially for the transfer to the $^{17}{F}$ excited state $1/2^+$ when using a nonlocal optical potential.

We report new measurements of the doubly-polarized photodisintegration of $^3$He at an incident photon energy of 16.5 MeV, carried out at the High Intensity $γ$-ray Source (HI$γ$S) facility located at Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL). The spin-dependent double-differential cross sections and the contribution from the three--body channel to the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) integrand were extracted and compared with the state-of-the-art three--body calculations. The calculations, which include the Coulomb interaction and are in good agreement with the results of previous measurements at 12.8 and 14.7 MeV, can no longer describe the cross section results at 16.5 MeV. The GDH integrand was found to be about one standard deviation larger than the maximum value predicted by the theories.

Fully converged results are obtained using realistic two-nucleon potentials and two-proton Coulomb force as dynamic input.
Differential cross section, proton analyzing power, outgoing neutron polarization, and proton-to-neutron polarization transfer coefficients are calculated between 6 and 30 MeV proton beam energy. Good agreement with the experimental data is found for the differential cross section both in elastic and charge-exchange reactions; the latter shows a complicated energy and angular dependence. The most sizable discrepancies between predictions and data are found for the proton analyzing power and outgoing neutron polarization in the charge-exchange reaction, while the respective proton-to-neutron polarization transfer coefficients are well described by the calculations.

Three-body nuclear reactions in two-nucleon plus core systems are described in the framework of exact scattering equations including the core excitation. A nucleon-core optical potential is constructed that can be easily adjusted to the reference potential and thereby to the experimental two-body data, if available. This constitutes an important improvement over the simple deformation of the potential used previously that violated the original fit to the data. Predictions for elastic, inelastic, and transfer reactions involving $^{10}{Be}$ and $^{24}{Mg}$ nuclear cores are obtained. The new optical potential leads to a moderate increase of cross sections.

Microscopic calculations of four-body collisions become very challenging in the energy regime above the threshold for four free particles. The neutron-${}^3$He scattering is an example of such process with elastic, rearrangement, and breakup channels. We aim to calculate observables for elastic and inelastic neutron-${}^3$He reactions up to 30 MeV neutron energy using realistic nuclear force models. We solve the Alt, Grassberger, and Sandhas (AGS) equations for the four-nucleon transition operators in the momentum-space framework. The complex-energy method with special integration weights is applied to deal with the complicated singularities in the kernel of AGS equations. We obtain fully converged results for the differential cross section and neutron analyzing power in the neutron-${}^3$He elastic scattering as well as the total cross sections for inelastic reactions. Several realistic potentials are used, including the one with an explicit $Δ$ isobar excitation. There is reasonable agreement between the theoretical predictions and experimental data for the neutron-${}^3$He scattering in the considered energy regime. The most remarkable disagreements are seen around the minimum of the differential cross section and the extrema of the neutron analyzing power. The breakup cross section increases with energy exceeding rearrangement channels above 23 MeV.
