Wall-crossing integral Chow rings of $\overline{\mathcal M}_{1,n}$
Abstract: We compute the integral Chow rings of $\overline{\mathcal M}_{1,n}$ for $n=3,4$. For $n\leq 6$, these stacks can be obtained by a sequence of weighted blow-ups and blow-downs from a simple stack, either a weighted projective space or a Grassmannian. Our strategy consists in inductively computing all the integral Chow rings of the alternative compactifications introduced by Smyth and studied by Lek… ▽ More

Effective morphisms and quotient stacks
Abstract: We give a valuative criterion for when a smooth algebraic stack with a separated good moduli space is the quotient of a separated Deligne-Mumford stack by a torus. Nonlinear effects in Thomas precession due to the interplay of Lorentz contraction and Thomas--Wigner rotation
Abstract: It is demonstrated that the 3--vector $\bs{S}$ currently associated to the spin in an inertial frame does not contract, but rather dilates, in the direction of the velocity. The correct vector $\bs{T}$ is individuated. The equation of motion for the two vectors is shown to contain two terms, a common linear rotation, identified with Thomas precession, and also a nonlinear rotation depending on the… ▽ More

Free will and quantum mechanics
Abstract: A simple example is provided showing that violation of free will allows to reproduce the quantum mechanical predictions, and that the Clauser-Horne parameter can take the maximum value 4 for a proper choice.

A short note on conflicting definitions of locality
Abstract: There are various non-equivalent definitions of locality. Three of them, impossibility of instantaneous communication, impossibility of action-at-a-distance, and impossibility of faster-than-light travel, while not fully implying each other, have a large overlap. When the term non-locality is used, most physicists think that one of these three conditions is being violated. There is a minority of p… ▽ More

Hidden-variable models for the spin singlet. II. Local theories violating Bell and Leggett inequalities
Abstract: Three classes of local hidden-variable models that violate both Bell and Leggett inequalities are presented. The models, however, do not reproduce the quantum mechanical predictions, hence they are experimentally testable. It is concluded that on one hand neither Bell or Leggett inequality fully captures the essential counterintuitiveness of quantum mechanics, while on the other hand the hypothesi… ▽ More

A simple model for the spin-singlet: mathematical equivalence of non-locality, slave will, and conspiracy
Abstract: A hidden variable model reproducing the quantum mechanical probabilities for a spin singlet is presented. The model violates only the hypothesis of independence of the distribution for the hidden variables from the detectors settings and vice versa (Measurement Independence). It otherwise satisfies the hypotheses of Setting Independence, Outcome Independence -- made in the derivation of Bell inequ… ▽ More

Reassessment of Leggett inequality
Abstract: Leggett formulated an inequality which seems to generalize the Bell theorem to non-local hidden variable theories. Leggett inequality is violated by quantum mechanics, as was confirmed by experiment. However, a careful analysis reveals that the theory applies to a class of local theory. Contrary to what happens in the derivation of Bell inequality, it is not necessary to make the hypothesis of out… ▽ More

Strong correspondence principle for joint measurement of conjugate observables
Abstract: It is demonstrated that the the statistics for a joint measurement of two conjugate variables in Quantum Mechanics are expressed through an equation identical to the classical one, provided that joint classical probabilities are substituted by Wigner functions and that the interaction between system and detectors is accounted for. This constitutes an extension of Ehrenfest correspondence principle… ▽ More
