Positive sectional curvature is not preserved under the Ricci flow in dimensions seven and thirteen
Abstract: We prove that there exist $\mathsf{SU}_{3}$-invariant metrics on Aloff-Wallach spaces $W^7_{k_1, k_2}$, as well as $\mathsf{SU}_{5}$-invariant metrics on the Berger space $B^{13}$, which have positive sectional curvature and evolve under the Ricci flow to metrics with non-positively curved planes.

Positive intermediate curvatures and Ricci flow
Abstract: We show that, for any $n\geq 2$, there exists a homogeneous space of dimension $d=8n-4$ with metrics of $\mathrm{Ric}_{\frac{d}{2}-5}>0$ if $n\neq 3$ and $\mathrm{Ric}_6>0$ if $n=3$ which evolve under the Ricci flow to metrics whose Ricci tensor is not $(d-4)$-positive. Consequently, Ricci flow does not preserve a range of curvature conditions that interpolate between positive sectional and positi… ▽ More

Examples of biquotients whose tangent bundle is not a biquotient vector bundle
Abstract: A biquotient vector bundle is any vector bundle over a biquotient $G/\!\!/H$ of the form $G \times_H V$ for an $H$-representation $V$. In this article, we study the question of when the tangent bundle of $G/\!\!/H$ is a biquotient vector bundle. We find infinite families of examples of biquotients $M = G/\!\!/H$ for which the tangent bundle is not a biquotient vector bundle for any presentation of… ▽ More

Biquotient vector bundles with no inverse
Abstract: In previous work, the second author and others have found conditions on a homogeneous space $G/H$ which imply that, up to stabilization, all vector bundles over $G/H$ admit Riemannian metrics of non-negative sectional curvature. One important ingredient of their approach is Segal's result that the set of vector bundles of the form $G\times_H V$ for a representation $V$ of $H$ contains inverses wit… ▽ More

Infinite families of manifolds of positive $k^{\rm th}$-intermediate Ricci curvature with $k$ small
Abstract: Positive $k^{\rm th}$-intermediate Ricci curvature on a Riemannian $n$-manifold, to be denoted by $\mathrm{Ric}_k > 0$, is a condition that interpolates between positive sectional and positive Ricci curvature (when $k =1$ and $k=n-1$ respectively). In this work, we produce many examples of manifolds of $\mathrm{Ric}_k > 0$ with $k$ small by examining symmetric and normal homogeneous spaces, along… ▽ More

Comments: V2. Major revision. Former Lemma 4.15 was incorrect, and consequently so were former Thms 4.8 and G. Former Thms A and B were incorrect in some dimensions, and are now subsumed into a corrected version of Thm A. The other main results (previous Thms C,D,E and F) remain unchanged. V2 includes new results (Thms B and E) on the Ric_k of non-simply connected manifolds and products of Lie groups

Diffeomorphic souls and disconnected moduli spaces of nonnegatively curved metrics
Abstract: We give examples of open manifolds that carry infinitely many complete metrics of nonnegative sectional curvature such that they all have the same soul, and their isometry classes lie in different connected components of the moduli space. All previously known examples of this kind have souls of codimension one. In our examples the souls have codimensions three and two.

Vector bundles of non-negative curvature over cohomogeneity one manifolds
Abstract: We provide several results on the existence of metrics of non-negative sectional curvature on vector bundles over certain cohomogeneity one manifolds and homogeneous spaces up to suitable stabilization. Beside explicit constructions of the metrics, this is achieved by identifying equivariant structures upon these vector bundles via a comparison of their equivariant and non-equivariant K-theory.… ▽ More

Moduli space of metrics of nonnegative sectional or positive Ricci curvature on homotopy real projective spaces
Abstract: We show that the moduli space of metrics of nonnegative sectional curvature on every homotopy ${\mathbb {R}} P^5$ has infinitely many path components. We also show that in each dimension $4k+1$ there are at least $2^{2k}$ homotopy ${\mathbb {R}} P^{4k+1}$s of pairwise distinct oriented diffeomorphism type for which the moduli space of metrics of positive Ricci curvature has infinitely many path co… ▽ More

Open manifolds with non-homeomorphic positively curved souls
Abstract: We extend two known existence results to simply connected manifolds with positive sectional curvature: we show that there exist pairs of simply connected positively-curved manifolds that are tangentially homotopy equivalent but not homeomorphic, and we deduce that an open manifold may admit a pair of non-homeomorphic simply connected and positively-curved souls. Examples of such pairs are given by… ▽ More

The stable converse soul question for positively curved homogeneous spaces
Abstract: The stable converse soul question (SCSQ) asks whether, given a real vector bundle \(E\) over a compact manifold, some stabilization \(E\times\R^k\) admits a metric with non-negative (sectional) curvature. We extend previous results to show that the SCSQ has an affirmative answer for all real vector bundles over any simply connected homogeneous manifold with positive curvature, except possibly for… ▽ More

A note on the Petersen-Wilhelm conjecture
Abstract: In this note we consider submersions from compact manifolds, homotopy equivalent to the Eschenburg or Bazaikin spaces of positive curvature. We show that if the submersion is nontrivial, the dimension of the base is greater than the dimension of the fiber. Together with previous results, this proves the Petersen-Wilhelm Conjecture for all the known compact manifolds with positive curvature.

Nonnegative curvature on stable bundles over compact rank one symmetric spaces
Abstract: In this note we show that every (real or complex) vector bundle over a compact rank one symmetric space carries, after taking the Whitney sum with a trivial bundle of sufficiently large rank, a metric with nonnegative sectional curvature. We also examine the case of complex vector bundles over other manifolds, and give upper bounds for the rank of the trivial bundle that is necessary to add when t… ▽ More
