Using data taken at 29 center-of-mass energies between 4.16 and 4.70 GeV with the BESIII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of approximately 18.8 $\rm fb^{-1}$, the process $e^+e^- \to p p \bar{p} \bar{n} π^{-} + c.c.$ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of $11.5σ$. The average Born cross sections in the energy ranges of (4.160, 4.380) GeV, (4.400, 4.600) GeV and (4.610, 4.700) GeV are measured to be $(21.5\pm5.7\pm1.2)$ fb, $(46.3\pm10.6\pm2.5)$ fb and $(59.0\pm9.4\pm3.2)$ fb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The line shapes of the $\bar{p}\bar{n}$ and $ppπ^-$ invariant mass spectra are consistent with phase space distributions, indicating that no hexaquark or di-baryon state is observed.

The bound beta-decay (BoB) of neutron is also known as the two-body neutron decay, which is a rare decay mode into a hydrogen atom and an anti-neutrino. The state of neutrino can be exactly inferred by measuring the state of hydrogen atom, providing a possible pathway to explore new physics. However, this rare decay mode has not yet been observed so far since it was predicted in 1947. The challenge in observing this decay is not only that its cross section is extremely low, equivalent to about branching ratio of the order of $10^{-6}$ of the three-body decay, but also that the final-state hydrogen atom is neutral and has extremely low kinetic energy, which cannot be effectively detected. In this study, we propose a microcalorimeter-based scheme for measuring the kinetic energies of hydrogen atoms produced from BoB of ultracold neutrons, which has a great advantage in terms of accuracy of the energy measurement. In this study, first, several important issues that require rigorous considerations for the decay measurements and possible solutions are discussed. Then, the requirements of the neutron flux and the appropriate structure design of the microcalorimeter are present by theoretical calculations. In short, this paper outlines our proposed novel experimental scheme for observing the BoB mode, addressing the possible solutions to all the necessary problems.

A multimode microcavity sensor based on a self-interference microring resonator is demonstrated experimentally. The proposed multimode sensing method is implemented by recording wideband transmission spectra that consist of multiple resonant modes. It is different from the previous dissipative sensing scheme, which aims at measuring the transmission depth changes of a single resonant mode in a microcavity. Here, by combining the dissipative sensing mechanism and the machine learning algorithm, the multimode sensing information extracted from a broadband spectrum can be efficiently fused to estimate the target parameter. The multimode sensing method is immune to laser frequency noises and robust against system imperfection, thus our work presents a great step towards practical applications of microcavity sensors outside the research laboratory. The voltage applied across the microheater on the chip was adjusted to bring its influence on transmittance through the thermo-optic effects. As a proof-of-principle experiment, the voltage was detected by the multimode sensing approach. The experimental results demonstrate that the limit of detection of the multimode sensing by the general regression neural network is reduced to 6.7% of that of single-mode sensing within a large measuring range.

Researchers have designed many algorithms to measure the distances between graph nodes, such as average hitting times of random walks, cosine distances from DeepWalk, personalized PageRank, etc. Successful although these algorithms are, still they are either underperforming or too time-consuming to be applicable to huge graphs that we encounter daily in this big data era. To address these issues, here we propose a faster algorithm based on an improved version of random walks that can beat DeepWalk results with more than ten times acceleration. The reason for this significant acceleration is that we can derive an analytical formula to calculate the expected hitting times of this random walk quickly. There is only one parameter (the power expansion order) in our algorithm, and the results are robust with respect to its changes. Therefore, we can directly find the optimal solution without fine-tuning of model parameters. Our method can be widely used for fraud detection, targeted ads, recommendation systems, topic-sensitive search, etc.

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are widely used in most electrical and electronic equipments or products. Hazardous substances such as Pb, Hg, Cd, etc, can be present in high concentrations in PCBs and the degradation and release of these substances poses a huge threat to humans and the environment. To investigation the chemical composition of PCBs in domestic market of China, a practical micro-focus X-ray fluorescence system is setup to make the elements analysis, especially for detecting hazardous substances. Collimator is adopted to focus the X-ray emitted from X-ray tube. BRUKER X-ray detector with proportional counter is used to detect the emitted fluorescence from the PCB samples. Both single layer PCB samples and double layers PCB samples made of epoxy glass fiber are purchased from the domestic market of China. Besides, a MC55 wireless communication module made by SIEMENS in Germany is used as the reference material. Experimental results from the fluorescence spectrums of the testing points of PCB samples show that, hazardous substances, mainly Pb and Br, are detected from the welding pads and substrates. In addition, statistical data about the average relatively amount of the main substances in testing points are also illustrated. It is verified that micro-XRF screening offers a simple and quick qualitative measurement of hazardous substances in PCBs.
