This study aims to find out the current status and prospects of using a bicycle as a mode for commuting within Dhaka city. Bicycling is a very sustainable mode of transport but unfortunately is used very less by the commuters of Dhaka. There has been a lot of factors affecting the choice of bicycle to commute. This study was aimed to find out what factors could motivate the commuters of Dhaka to use a bicycle as a mode of transport. For determining the motivators, a survey was administered among the commuters of Dhaka city in which the respondents were asked to answer how certain factors would affect their choice to use a bicycle to commute. A Likert scale was used in the survey and the responses were analyzed, from which the top motivators were found. The Motivators were then grouped together using exploratory factor analysis to support possible policy making. Four factors were extracted using the method. The factors were named Additional Perks, General benefits, Personal Benefits, and Infrastructural benefits

Permalloy films with one-dimensional (1D) profile modulation of submicron periodicity are fabricated based on commercially available DVD-R discs and studied using ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) method and micromagnetic numerical simulations. The main resonance position shows in-plane angular dependence which is strongly reminiscent of that in ferromagnetic films with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. The main signal and additional low field lines are attributed to multiple standing spin wave resonances defined by the grating period. The results may present interest in magnetic metamaterials and magnonics applications.

Approximate matrix inversion based methods is widely used for linear massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) received symbol vector detection. Such detectors typically utilize the diagonally dominant channel matrix of a massive MIMO system. Instead of diagonal matrix, a stair matrix can be utilized to improve the error-rate performance of a massive MIMO detector. In this paper, we present very large-scale integration (VLSI) architecture and field programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of a stair matrix based iterative detection algorithm. The architecture supports a base station with 128 antennas, 8 users with single antenna, and 256 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). The stair matrix based detector can deliver a 142.34 Mbps data rate and reach a clock frequency of 258 MHz in a Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA. The detector provides superior error-rate performance and higher scaled throughput than most contemporary massive MIMO detectors.

Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is a key technology for fifth generation (5G) communication system. MIMO symbol detection is one of the most computationally intensive tasks for a massive MIMO baseband receiver. In this paper, we analyze matrix decomposition algorithms for massive MIMO systems, which were traditionally used for small-scale MIMO detection due to their numerical stability and modular design. We present the computational complexity of linear detection mechanisms based on QR, Cholesky and LDL-decomposition algorithms for different massive MIMO configurations. We compare them with the state-of-art approximate inversion-based massive MIMO detection methods. The results provide important insights for system and very large-scale integration (VLSI) designers to select appropriate massive MIMO detection algorithms according to their requirement.

Being heavily reliant on animals, it is our ethical obligation to improve their well-being by understanding their needs. Several studies show that animal needs are often expressed through their faces. Though remarkable progress has been made towards the automatic understanding of human faces, this has regrettably not been the case with animal faces. There exists significant room and appropriate need to develop automatic systems capable of interpreting animal faces. Among many transformative impacts, such a technology will foster better and cheaper animal healthcare, and further advance animal psychology understanding.
We believe the underlying research progress is mainly obstructed by the lack of an adequately annotated dataset of animal faces, covering a wide spectrum of animal species. To this end, we introduce a large-scale, hierarchical annotated dataset of animal faces, featuring 21.9K faces from 334 diverse species and 21 animal orders across biological taxonomy. These faces are captured `in-the-wild' conditions and are consistently annotated with 9 landmarks on key facial features. The proposed dataset is structured and scalable by design; its development underwent four systematic stages involving rigorous, manual annotation effort of over 6K man-hours. We benchmark it for face alignment using the existing art under novel problem settings. Results showcase its challenging nature, unique attributes and present definite prospects for novel, adaptive, and generalized face-oriented CV algorithms. We further benchmark the dataset for face detection and fine-grained recognition tasks, to demonstrate multi-task applications and room for improvement. Experiments indicate that this dataset will push the algorithmic advancements across many related CV tasks and encourage the development of novel systems for animal facial behaviour monitoring. We will make the dataset publicly available.

Abstract:
Significant photovoltages are observed in permalloy grating-like structures in response to pulsed laser light illumination. Electric signals are enhanced at plasmon resonance conditions and show a clear dependence on the magnetic field with a characteristic hysteresis. Estimations show that the effect could not be explained solely by the laser-induced heating. Alternative mechanisms are discussed.

Polycrystalline MgB2 samples with 0, 2, 4 and 6 percent added nano-Co3O4 being synthesized by vacuum (10-5 Torr) annealing at 750 0C for three hours each are found to be nearly single phase with presence of only a small quantity of Mg/MgO in pristine sample and in addition the Co2O3 in doped compounds. All the samples exhibited clear and sharp diamagnetic transitions at around 38 K, in Zero-field-cooled (ZFC) magnetic susceptibility measurements with sizeable signal. The Field cooled (FC) measurements though having sharp transitions, but showed a very small signal, indicating high level of pinning centers in these samples. Further some of the doped samples exhibited Paramagnetic-Meissner-Effect (PME) in applied field of 5 Oe. The critical current density (Jc), being estimated by invoking Bean model for the pristine compound increase by nearly an order of magnitude for 2 and 4 percent nano-Co3O4 doping and later the same decreases sharply for 6 percent sample at nearly all studied temperatures and applied fields. Further the increased Jc (~ 10^8 A/cm2) is coupled with fluxiod jumps (T = 20 K and H = 1 T). Fluxiod Jumps are not seen in relatively low Jc pristine or 6 percent sample. This means the fluxiod-jumps are intrinsic only to the high Jc samples.

We report optimization of the synthesis parameters viz. heating temperature (TH), and hold time (thold) for vacuum (10-5 torr) annealed and LN2 (liquid nitrogen) quenched MgB2 compound. These are single-phase compounds crystallizing in the hexagonal structure (space group P6/mmm) at room temperature. Our XRD results indicated that for phase-pure MgB2, the TH for 10-5 torr annealed and LN2 quenched samples is 750 0C. The right stoichiometry i.e., MgB2 of the compound corresponding to 10-5 Torr and TH of 750 0C is found for the hold time (thold) of 2.30 hours. With varying thold from 1- 4 hours at fixed TH (750 0C) and vacuum (10-5 torr), the c-lattice parameter decreases first and later increases with thold (hours) before a near saturation, while the a-lattice parameter first increase and later decreases beyond thold of 2.30 hours. c/a ratio versus thold plot showed an inverted bell shape curve, touching the lowest value of 1.141 which is reported value for perfect stoichiometry of MgB2. The optimized stoichimetric MgB2 compound exhibited superconductivity at 39.2 K with transition width of 0.6 K. In conclusion, the synthesis parameters for phase pure stoichimetric vacuum annealed MgB2 compound are optimized and are compared with widely reported Ta tube encapsulated samples.
