A search for charge-parity ($C\!P$) violation in $D^0 \to K^- K^+$ and $D^0 \to π^- π^+$ decays is reported, using $pp$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The flavor of the charm meson is inferred from the charge of the pion in $D^*(2010)^+ \to D^0 π^+$ decays or from the charge of the muon in $\overline{B} \to D^0 μ^-\barν_μX$ decays. The difference between the $C\!P$ asymmetries in $D^0 \to K^- K^+$ and $D^0 \to π^- π^+$ decays is measured to be $ΔA_{C\!P} = [ -18.2 \pm 3.2\,(\rm stat.) \pm 0.9\,(\rm syst.) ] \times 10^{-4}$ for $π$-tagged and $ΔA_{C\!P} = [ -9 \pm 8\,(\rm stat.) \pm 5\,(\rm syst.) ] \times 10^{-4} $ for $μ$-tagged $D^0$ mesons. Combining these with previous LHCb results leads to $$ΔA_{C\!P} = ( -15.4 \pm 2.9) \times 10^{-4},$$ where the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic contributions. The measured value differs from zero by more than five standard deviations. This is the first observation of $C\!P$ violation in the decay of charm hadrons.

A search for $CP$ violation in charmless four-body decays of $Λ_b$ and $Ξ_b^0$ baryons with a proton and three charged mesons in the final state is performed. To cancel out production and detection charge-asymmetry effects, the search is carried out by measuring the difference between the $CP$ asymmetries in a charmless decay and in a decay with an intermediate charmed baryon with the same particles in the final state. The data sample used was recorded in 2011 and 2012 with the LHCb detector and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $3 {\rm fb}^{-1}$. A total of 18 $CP$ asymmetries are considered, either accounting for the full phase space of the decays or exploring specific regions of the decay kinematics. No significant $CP$-violation effect is observed in any of the measurements.

A time-dependent amplitude analysis is used to determine the final-state resonance contributions, the $CP$-violating phase $φ_s=-0.057\pm 0.060\pm 0.011$ rad, the decay-width difference between the heavier mass $B_{s}^{0}$ eigenstate and the $B^{0}$ meson of $-0.050\pm 0.004\pm 0.004$ ps$^{-1}$, and the $CP$-violating parameter $|λ|=1.01_{-0.06}^{+0.08}\pm0.03$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These results are combined with previous LHCb measurements in the same decay channel using 7 TeV and 8 TeV $pp$ collisions obtaining $φ_s =0.002\pm0.044\pm0.012$ rad, and $|λ| =0.949\pm0.036\pm0.019$.

Mathematical reasoning skills are a desired outcome of many introductory physics courses, particularly calculus-based physics courses. Positive and negative quantities are ubiquitous in physics, and the sign carries important and varied meanings. Novices can struggle to understand the many roles signed numbers play in physics contexts, and recent evidence shows that unresolved struggle can carry over to subsequent physics courses. The mathematics education research literature documents the cognitive challenge of conceptualizing negative numbers as mathematical objects--both for experts, historically, and for novices as they learn. We contribute to the small but growing body of research in physics contexts that examines student reasoning about signed quantities and reasoning about the use and interpretation of signs in mathematical models. In this paper we present a framework for categorizing various meanings and interpretations of the negative sign in physics contexts, inspired by established work in algebra contexts from the mathematics education research community. Such a framework can support innovation that can catalyze deeper mathematical conceptualizations of signed quantities in the introductory courses and beyond.

We report a measurement of the mass difference between neutral charm-meson eigenstates using a novel approach that enhances sensitivity to this parameter. We use $2.3\times 10^6$ $D^0\to K_S^0π^+π^-$ decays reconstructed in proton-proton collisions collected by the \lhcb experiment in 2011 and 2012. Allowing for $CP$ violation in mixing and in the interference between mixing and decay, we measure the $CP$-averaged normalized mass difference $x_{CP} = \left[2.7\pm1.6\text{(stat)}\pm0.4\text{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$ and the $CP$-violating parameter $Δx = \left[-0.53\pm0.70\text{(stat)}\pm0.22\text{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$. The results are consistent with $CP$ symmetry. These determinations are the most precise from a single experiment and, combined with current world-average results, yield the first evidence that the masses of the neutral charm-meson eigenstates differ.

High-yield samples of kinematically and topologically similar Cabibbo-favored $D_{(s)}^+$ decays are analyzed to subtract nuisance asymmetries due to production and detection effects, including those induced by $CP$ violation in the neutral kaon system. The results are \begin{align*} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D_s^+\to K_S^0 π^+) &=\left(\phantom{-}1.3\phantom{0}\pm1.9\phantom{0}\pm0.5\phantom{0}\right)\times10^{-3},\\ \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^+\to K_S^0 K^+) &=\left(-0.09\pm0.65\pm0.48\right)\times10^{-3},\\ \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^+\to φπ^+) &=\left(\phantom{-}0.05\pm0.42\pm0.29\right)\times10^{-3}, \end{align*} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. They are the most precise measurements of these quantities to date, and are consistent with $CP$ symmetry.

These ratios, averaged over the $b$-hadron transverse momenta from 4 to 25 GeV and pseudorapidity from 2 to 5, are $0.122 \pm 0.006$ for $\overline{B}_s^0$, and $0.259 \pm 0.018$ for $Λ_b^0$, where the uncertainties arise from both statistical and systematic sources. The $Λ_b^0$ ratio depends strongly on transverse momentum, while the $\overline{B}_s^0$ ratio shows a mild dependence. Neither ratio shows variations with pseudorapidity. The measurements are made using semileptonic decays to minimize theoretical uncertainties. In addition, the ratio of $D^+$ to $D^0$ mesons produced in the sum of $\overline{B}^0$ and $B^-$ semileptonic decays is determined as $0.359\pm0.006\pm 0.009$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic.

The measurement uses a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $12.2\pm0.3\,\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$ for the case where the proton beam is projected into the LHCb detector (corresponding to measuring hadron production at positive rapidity) and $18.6\pm0.5\,\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$ for the lead beam projected into the LHCb detector (corresponding to measuring hadron production at negative rapidity). Nuclear effects are probed through double-differential cross-sections, forward-to-backward cross-section ratios and nuclear modification factors of the beauty hadrons. The double-differential cross-sections are measured as a function of the beauty-hadron transverse momentum and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame. Forward-to-backward cross-section ratios and nuclear modification factors indicate a significant nuclear suppression at positive rapidity. The ratio of $Λ_b^0$ over $B^0$ production cross-sections is reported and is consistent with the corresponding measurement in $pp$~collisions.

These decays are suppressed due to limited available phase space, as well as due to Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka or Cabibbo suppression. The measured branching fractions are \begin{align*} \mathcal{B}(B^0 \to J/ψp \overline{p}) &= (4.51\pm 0.40\; \text{(stat)} \pm 0.44\; \text{(syst)}) \times 10^{-7}, \\ \mathcal{B}(B^0_s \to J/ψp \overline{p}) &= (3.58\pm 0.19\; \text{(stat)} \pm 0.39\; \text{(syst)}) \times 10^{-6}. \end{align*} For the $B^0_s$ meson, the result is much higher than the expected value of $ {\cal O} (10^{-9})$. The small available phase space in these decays also allows for the most precise single measurement of both the $B^0$ mass as ${5279.74 \pm 0.30\; ({\rm stat})\pm 0.10\; ({\rm syst})}$ MeV, and the $B^0_s$ mass as ${5366.85 \pm 0.19\; ({\rm stat})\pm 0.13\; ({\rm syst})}$ MeV.

In the kinematic region $2 < η< 6$ and $p_{\rm T}<20$ GeV/$c$, we measure \begin{align*} \frac{f_{Ξ_b^-}}{f_{Λ_b^0}}\frac{\mathcal{B}(Ξ_b^-\to J/ψΞ^-)}{\mathcal{B}(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ)} &= (10.8\pm0.9\pm0.8)\times10^{-2}~~[\sqrt{s}=7,8~{\rm TeV}],\\ \frac{f_{Ξ_b^-}}{f_{Λ_b^0}}\frac{\mathcal{B}(Ξ_b^-\to J/ψΞ^-)}{\mathcal{B}(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ)} &= (13.1\pm1.1\pm1.0)\times10^{-2}~~[\sqrt{s}=13~{\rm TeV}], \end{align*} where $f_{Ξ_b^-}$ and $f_{Λ_b^0}$ are the fragmentation fractions of $b$ quarks into $Ξ_b^-$ and $Λ_b^0$ baryons, respectively, ${\mathcal{B}}$ represents branching fractions, and the uncertainties are due to statistical and experimental systematic sources. The values of $f_{Ξ_b^-}/f_{Λ_b^0}$ are obtained by invoking SU(3) symmetry in the $Ξ_b^-\to JψΞ^-$ and $Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ$ decays. Production asymmetries between $Ξ_b^-$ and $\barΞ_b^+$ baryons are also reported.
The mass of the $Ξ_b^-$ baryon is also measured relative to that of the $Λ_b^0$ baryon, from which it is found that \begin{align*} m(Ξ_b^-) &= 5796.70\pm0.39\pm0.15\pm0.17~{\rm MeV}/c^2, \end{align*} where the last uncertainty is due to the precision on the known $Λ_b^0$ mass. This result represents the most precise determination of the $Ξ_b^-$ mass.

An angular analysis of $B^0\to J/ψK^+π^-$ decays is performed, using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3~${\rm fb}^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector. The $m(K^+π^-)$ spectrum is divided into fine bins. In each $m(K^+π^-)$ bin, the hypothesis that the three-dimensional angular distribution can be described by structures induced only by $K^\ast$ resonances is examined, making minimal assumptions about the $K^+π^-$ system. The data reject the $K^\ast$-only hypothesis with a large significance, implying the observation of exotic contributions in a model-independent fashion. Inspection of the $m(J/ψπ^-)$ versus $m(K^+π^-)$ plane suggests structures near $m(J/ψπ^-)=4200$~MeV and 4600~MeV.

In an effort to improve the quality of citizen engagement in workplace, politics, and other domains in which quantitative reasoning plays an important role, Quantitative Literacy (QL) has become the focus of considerable research and development efforts in mathematics education. QL is characterized by sophisticated reasoning with elementary mathematics. In this project, we extend the notions of QL to include the physics domain and call it Physics Quantitative Literacy (PQL). We report on early stage development from a collaboration that focuses on reasoning inventory design and data analysis methodology for measuring the development of PQL across the introductory physics sequence. We have piloted a prototype assessment designed to measure students' PQL in introductory physics: Physics Inventory of Quantitative Literacy (PIQL). This prototype PIQL focuses on two components of PQL: proportional reasoning, and reasoning with negative quantities. We present preliminary results from approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 20 graduate students.

Only three extragalactic supernovae have been detected at late times at millimeter wavelengths: SN 1987A, SN 1978K, and SN 1996cr. SN 1978K is a remarkably luminous Type IIn supernova that remains bright at all wavelengths 40 years after its explosion. Here we present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations taken in 2016 using Bands 3, 4, 6, and 7 that show a steepening in the spectrum. An absorbed single power law model broadly fits all the radio and millimeter observations, but would require significant chromatic variability. Alternatively, a broken power law fits the radio-millimeter spectrum: this can be explained using an ultra-relativistic spherical blast wave in a wind scaling with a cooling break, as in a gamma-ray burst afterglow. Using updated Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) light curves, we show the non-thermal radio continuum continues to decay as $t^{-1.53}$; in the fireball model, this independently defines the power law indices found in the radio-millimeter spectrum. Supernovae such as SN 1978K might be important contributors to the Universal dust budget: only SN 1978K was detected in a search for warm dust in supernovae in the transitional phase (age 10-100 years). Using Spitzer Space Telescope observations, we show that at least some of this dust emission has been decaying rapidly as $t^{-2.45}$ over the past decade, suggesting it is being destroyed. Depending on the modeling of the synchrotron emission, the ALMA observations suggest there may be emission from a cold dust component.

The selected sample contains more than 160000 signal decays, allowing the most precise amplitude modelling of this $D^0$ decay to date. The obtained amplitude model is used to perform the search for $CP$ violation. The result is compatible with $CP$ symmetry, with a sensitivity ranging from 1% to 15% depending on the amplitude considered.

The $Υ(nS)$ mesons are reconstructed through their decays into two opposite-sign muons. The measurements comprise the differential production cross-sections of the $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ states, their forward-to-backward ratios and nuclear modification factors, performed as a function of the transverse momentum \pt and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame $y^*$ of the $Υ(nS)$ states, in the kinematic range $p_{\rm{T}}<25$ GeV/$c$ and $1.5<y^*<4.0$ ($-5.0<y^*<-2.5$) for $p$Pb (Pb$p$) collisions. In addition, production cross-sections for $Υ(3S)$ are measured integrated over phase space and the production ratios between all three $Υ(nS)$ states are determined. The measurements are compared to theoretical predictions and suppressions for quarkonium in $p$Pb collisions are observed.

A Dalitz plot analysis of $B^0 \to η_c(1S) K^+π^-$ decays is performed using data samples of $pp$ collisions collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7,~8$ and $13$ TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $4.7~\text{fb}^{-1}$. A satisfactory description of the data is obtained when including a contribution representing an exotic $η_c(1S) π^-$ resonant state. The significance of this exotic resonance is more than three standard deviations, while its mass and width are $4096 \pm 20~^{+18}_{-22}$ MeV and $152 \pm 58~^{+60}_{-35}$ MeV, respectively. The spin-parity assignments $J^P=0^+$ and $J^{P}=1^-$ are both consistent with the data. In addition, the first measurement of the $B^0 \to η_c(1S) K^+π^-$ branching fraction is performed and gives $\displaystyle \mathcal{B}(B^0 \to η_c(1S) K^+π^-) = (5.73 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.66) \times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to limited knowledge of external branching fractions.

The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $1.58\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$ recorded at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV. Measurements of the differential cross-section and the forward-backward production ratio are reported for $Λ^+_c$ baryons with transverse momenta in the range $2<p_{T}<10$GeV/$c$ and rapidities in the ranges $1.5<y^*<4.0$ and $-4.5<y^*<-2.5$ in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system. The ratio of cross-sections of $Λ^+_c$ baryons and $D^0$ mesons is also reported. The results are compared with next-to-leading order calculations that use nuclear parton distribution functions.

Recently several European National Measurement Institutes have established traceable calibration methods for dynamic mechanical quantities, e.g., dynamic force, torque and pressure. However, the use in industry and elsewhere of dynamic calibration information provided on certificates is not straightforward. Typically it is necessary to employ deconvolution techniques to obtain estimates of measurands, and the deconvolution method itself and the associated algorithms are sources of uncertainty that must be included in uncertainty budgets. There is a need for practical guidance for end users on how to use the newly-available dynamic calibration information. To this end we set out an approach to the evaluation of uncertainties associated with dynamic measurements that we believe covers the most relevant cases. The methods have been embodied in publicly-available software and we show how they can be used to tackle some example problems. We believe that the methods lead to more reliable estimates of the relevant measurands and their associated uncertainties.

The LHCb Upgrade II will fully exploit the flavour-physics opportunities of the HL-LHC, and study additional physics topics that take advantage of the forward acceptance of the LHCb spectrometer. The LHCb Upgrade I will begin operation in 2020. Consolidation will occur, and modest enhancements of the Upgrade I detector will be installed, in Long Shutdown 3 of the LHC (2025) and these are discussed here. The main Upgrade II detector will be installed in long shutdown 4 of the LHC (2030) and will build on the strengths of the current LHCb experiment and the Upgrade I. It will operate at a luminosity up to $ 2 \times 10^{34} \rm cm^{-2}s^{-1}$, ten times that of the Upgrade I detector. New detector components will improve the intrinsic performance of the experiment in certain key areas. An Expression Of Interest proposing Upgrade II was submitted in February 2017. The physics case for the Upgrade II is presented here in more depth. $CP$-violating phases will be measured with precisions unattainable at any other envisaged facility. The experiment will probe $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ and $b\to d \ell^+\ell^-$ transitions in both muon and electron decays in modes not accessible at Upgrade I. Minimal flavour violation will be tested with a precision measurement of the ratio of $B(B^0\toμ^+μ^-)/B(B_s^0\to μ^+μ^-)$. Probing charm $CP$ violation at the $10^{-5}$ level may result in its long sought discovery. Major advances in hadron spectroscopy will be possible, which will be powerful probes of low energy QCD. Upgrade II potentially will have the highest sensitivity of all the LHC experiments on the Higgs to charm-quark couplings. Generically, the new physics mass scale probed, for fixed couplings, will almost double compared with the pre-HL-LHC era; this extended reach for flavour physics is similar to that which would be achieved by the HE-LHC proposal for the energy frontier.

An analysis of the angular distribution of the decay $Λ_b^0 \rightarrow Λμ^{+} μ^{-}$ is presented, using data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2016 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately $5\,fb^{-1}$. Angular observables are determined using a moment analysis of the angular distribution at low hadronic recoil, corresponding to the dimuon invariant mass squared range $15 < q^{2} < 20\, GeV^2/c^4$. The full basis of observables is measured for the first time. The lepton-side, hadron-side and combined forward-backward asymmetries of the decay are determined to be \begin{align} A_{FB}^{l} & = -0.39 \pm 0.04\,\rm{stat} \pm 0.01\, \rm{syst}, \nonumber\\ A_{FB}^{h} & = -0.30 \pm 0.05\,\rm{stat} \pm 0.02\, \rm{syst}, \nonumber\\ A_{FB}^{lh} & = +0.25 \pm 0.04\,\rm{stat} \pm 0.01\, \rm{syst}. \nonumber \end{align} The measurements are consistent with Standard Model predictions.

This technique is employed for the first time to distinguish contributions from $D^0$, $D^{*0}$, and higher-mass charmed states ($D^{**0}$) in semileptonic $B^-$ decays by using the missing-mass distribution. The measurement is performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb${}^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector in $pp$ collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The resulting branching fractions relative to the inclusive $B^- \!\rightarrow D^0 X μ^- \overlineν_μ$ are $f_{D^0} = \mathcal{B}( B^- \rightarrow D^0μ^-\overlineν_μ)/\mathcal{B}( B^- \rightarrow D^0 X μ^- \overlineν_μ) = 0.25 \pm 0.06$, $f_{D^{**0}} = \mathcal{B}( B^- \rightarrow ( D^{**0} \rightarrow D^0 X)μ^-\overlineν_μ)/\mathcal{B}( B^- \rightarrow D^0 X μ^- \overlineν_μ) = 0.21 \pm 0.07$, with $f_{D^{*0}} = 1 - f_{D^0} - f_{D^{**0}}$ making up the remainder.

Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) have become an important class of semiconductors for solar cells and other optoelectronic applications. Electron-phonon coupling plays a critical role in all optoelectronic devices, and although the lattice dynamics and phonon frequencies of HOIPs have been well studied, little attention has been given to phonon lifetimes. We report the first high-precision measurements of acoustic phonon lifetimes in the hybrid perovskite methylammonium lead iodide (MAPI), using inelastic neutron spectroscopy to provide high energy resolution and fully deuterated single crystals to reduce incoherent scattering from hydrogen. Our measurements reveal extremely short lifetimes on the order of picoseconds, corresponding to nanometer mean free paths and demonstrating that acoustic phonons are unable to dissipate heat efficiently. Lattice-dynamics calculations using ab-initio third-order perturbation theory indicate that the short lifetimes stem from strong three-phonon interactions and a high density of low-energy optical phonon modes related to the degrees of freedom of the organic cation. Such short lifetimes have significant implications for electron-phonon coupling in MAPI and other HOIPs, with direct impacts on optoelectronic devices both in the cooling of hot carriers and in the transport and recombination of band edge carriers. These findings illustrate a fundamental difference between HOIPs and conventional photovoltaic semiconductors and demonstrate the importance of understanding lattice dynamics in the effort to develop metal halide perovskite optoelectronic devices.

The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $1.7\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$, collected by the LHCb experiment in $pp$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $13\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}$. The $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ mass is measured to be

The branching fraction is measured relative to that of the topologically similar decay $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^-$ and is found to be $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^{*0} φ) = (3.7 \pm 0.5 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of the $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^-$ decay. The fraction of longitudinal polarisation in this decay is measured to be ${f_{\rm L} =(73 \pm 15 \pm 3)\%}$. The most precise determination of the branching fraction for the $B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^{0} φ$ decay is also obtained, $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^{0} φ) = (3.0 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.2 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-5}$. An upper limit, $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to \overline{D}^{0} φ) < 2.0 \ (2.2) \times 10^{-6}$ at $90\%$ (95\%) confidence level is set. A constraint on the $ω-φ$ mixing angle $δ$ is set at $|δ| < 5.2^\circ~ (5.5^\circ)$ at $90\%$ ($95\%$) confidence level.

The branching fraction of the $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-$ decay is measured relative to that of the decay $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+ π^-$ to be $$\frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-)}{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+ π^-)} = (6.9 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.3)\%,$$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. No significant excess is found, and upper limits are set on the product of the production cross-section and the branching fraction as functions of the mass of the $X_{b\overline{b}b\overline{b}}$ state. The limits are set in the fiducial volume where all muons have pseudorapidity in the range $[2.0,5.0]$, and the $X_{b\overline{b}b\overline{b}}$ state has rapidity in the range $[2.0,4.5]$ and transverse momentum less than 15 GeV/$c$.

A measurement of $Z\rightarrowτ^+τ^-$ production cross-section is presented using data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb$^{-1}$, from $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV collected by the LHCb experiment. The $τ^+τ^-$ candidates are reconstructed in final states with the first tau lepton decaying leptonically, and the second decaying either leptonically or to one or three charged hadrons. The production cross-section is measured for $Z$ bosons with invariant mass between 60 and 120 GeV/$c^2$, which decay to tau leptons with transverse momenta greater than 20 GeV/$c$ and pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.5. The cross-section is determined to be $σ_{pp\rightarrow{}Z\rightarrow{}τ^+τ^-} = 95.8 \pm 2.1 \pm 4.6 \pm 0.2 \pm 1.1 \mathrm{pb}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, the third is due to the LHC beam energy uncertainty, and the fourth to the integrated luminosity uncertainty. This result is compatible with NNLO Standard model predictions. The ratio of the cross-sections for $Z\rightarrowτ^+τ^-$ to $Z\rightarrowμ^+μ^-$ ($Z\rightarrow{}e^+e^-$), determined to be $1.01 \pm 0.05$ ($1.02 \pm 0.06$), is consistent with the lepton-universality hypothesis in $Z$ decays.

Measurements are reported of the central exclusive production of \jpsi and \psitwos mesons in $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Backgrounds are significantly reduced compared to previous measurements made at lower energies through the use of new forward shower counters. The products of the cross-sections and the branching fractions for the decays to dimuons, where both muons are within the pseudorapidity range $2.0<η<4.5$, are measured to be $$
\begin{array}{rcl} σ_{J/ψ\rightarrowμ^+μ^-}&=&435 \pm 18 \pm 17 \pm 16 {\rm \ pb},\\ σ_{ψ(2S)\rightarrowμ^+μ^-}&=&11.1 \pm 1.1 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.4 {\rm \ pb}.\\ \end{array} $$ The first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, and the third are due to the luminosity determination. The cross-sections are also measured differentially for meson rapidities between 2.0 and 4.5. Good agreement is observed with theoretical predictions. Photoproduction cross-sections are derived and compared to previous experiments, and a deviation from a pure power-law extrapolation of lower energy data is observed.

A measurement of the time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry in $D^0\rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S$ decays is reported. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of about $2$ fb$^{-1}$ collected in 2015-2016 by the LHCb collaboration in $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $13$ TeV. The $D^0$ candidate is required to originate from a $D^{\ast +} \rightarrow D^0 π^+$ decay, allowing the determination of the flavour of the $D^0$ meson using the pion charge. The $D^0 \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}$ decay, which has a well measured $CP$ asymmetry, is used as a calibration channel. The $CP$ asymmetry for $D^0\rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S$ is measured to be \begin{equation*} \mathcal{A}^{CP}(D^0\rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S) = (4.3\pm 3.4\pm 1.0)\%, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is combined with the previous LHCb measurement at lower centre-of-mass energies to obtain \begin{equation*} \mathcal{A}^{CP}(D^0\rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S) = (2.3\pm 2.8\pm 0.9)\%. \end{equation*}

Abstract:
A binned Dalitz plot analysis of $B^\pm \to D K^\pm$ decays, with $D\to K_\text{S}^0π^+π^-$ and $D\to K_\text{S}^0K^+K^-$, is used to perform a measurement of the CP-violating observables $x_{\pm}$ and $y_{\pm}$, which are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle $γ$. The analysis is performed without assuming any $D$ decay model, through the use of information on the strong-phase variation over the Dalitz plot from the CLEO collaboration. Using a sample of proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb experiment in 2015 and 2016, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0$\,\text{fb}^{-1}$, the values of the CP violation parameters are found to be $x_- = ( 9.0 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4) \times 10^{-2}$, $y_- = ( 2.1 \pm 2.2 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.1) \times 10^{-2}$, $x_+ = (- 7.7 \pm 1.9 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4) \times 10^{-2}$, and $y_+ = (- 1.0 \pm 1.9 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.9) \times 10^{-2}$. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainty on the strong-phase measurements. These values are used to obtain $γ= \left(87\,^{+11}_{-12}\right)^\circ$, $r_B = 0.086^{+ 0.013}_{-0.014}$, and $δ_B = (101 \pm 11)^\circ$, where $r_B$ is the ratio between the suppressed and favoured $B$-decay amplitudes and $δ_B$ is the corresponding strong-interaction phase difference. This measurement is combined with the result obtained using 2011 and 2012 data collected with the \lhcb experiment, to give $γ= \left(80\,^{+10}_{\,-9}\right)^\circ$, $r_B = 0.080 \pm 0.011$, and $δ_B = (110 \pm 10)^\circ$.

Abstract:
The inclusive $D_s^{\pm}$ production asymmetry is measured in $pp$ collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s} =7$ and 8 TeV. Promptly produced $D_s^{\pm}$ mesons are used, which decay as $D_s^{\pm}\toφπ^{\pm}$, with $φ\to K^+K^-$. The measurement is performed in bins of transverse momentum, $p_{\rm T}$, and rapidity, $y$, covering the range…

The measurement is performed in bins of transverse momentum, $p_{\rm T}$, and rapidity, $y$, covering the range $2.5<p_{\rm T}<25.0$ GeV$/c$ and $2.0<y<4.5$. No kinematic dependence is observed. Evidence of nonzero $D_s^{\pm}$ production asymmetry is found with a significance of 3.3 standard deviations.
