We search for gamma-ray emission from the galaxy cluster SPT-CL J2012-5649 in the energy range from 3 GeV to 1 TeV using the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) telescope. For our analysis, we use three different templates: point source, radial disk and radial Gaussian. We do not detect a signal with significance $>3σ$ for any of these templates at any location with $R_{200}$ of the cluster center. We obtain 95\% c.l. upper limit on the energy flux between $\sim 10^{-6}$ and $10^{-4} \rm{MeV~cm^{-2}~s^{-1}}$ depending on the energy range. These upper limits are consistent with the a non-zero flux detected by Fermi-LAT (at $6σ$ significance) for this cluster. This work represents the first proof of principle search for gamma-ray emission from a single galaxy cluster using DAMPE data.

For this purpose, we use 350 galaxy clusters selected from the 2500 $\rm{deg^2}$ SPT-SZ survey. We model the dark matter distribution using the NFW profile for the main halo along with the Einasto profile for the substructure. The largest signal is seen for the cluster SPT-CL J2021-5257 with a significance of around $3σ$. The best-fit dark matter mass and annihilation cross-section for this cluster are equal to $(64.0 \pm 11.8)$ GeV and $\langle σv \rangle= (6.0 \pm 0.6) \times 10^{-25} \rm{cm^3 s^{-1}}$ for the $\bar{b} b$ annihilation channel. However, this central estimate is in conflict with the limits on annihilation cross-section from dwarf spheroidal galaxies and hence cannot be attributed to dark matter annihilation. Three other clusters show significance between $2-2.5σ$, whereas all the remaining clusters show null results. The most stringent 95\% c.l. upper limit, which we obtain among the clusters with significance $>2σ$ is from SPT-CL J2300-5331, given by $\langle σv \rangle = 9 \times 10^{-26} \text{cm}^3 \text{s}^{-1}$ for a dark matter mass of 10 GeV corresponding to the $b\bar{b}$ annihilation channel.

Consequently, these red dwarfs have been suggested as sources of ultra-high energy cosmic rays. In this work, we search for soft gamma-ray emission from these TeV bright red dwarfs between 0.75-30 MeV using archival data from the COMPTEL gamma-ray imaging telescope, as a follow-up to a similar search for GeV gamma-ray emission using the Fermi-LAT telescope. Although, prima-facie, we detect non-zero photon flux from three red dwarfs with high significance, these signals can attributed to contamination from nearby sources such as Crab and Cygnus, which are within the angular resolution of COMPTEL, and have been previously detected as very bright point sources at MeV energies. Therefore, we could not detect any statistically significant signal ($>3σ$) from any of these eight red dwarfs from 0.75-30 MeV. We then report the 95% confidence level upper limits on the differential photon flux (at 30 MeV), integral photon flux and integral energy flux for all of the eight red dwarfs. The integral energy flux limits range between $10^{-11}-10^{-10} \rm{ergs/cm^2/s}$.

We search for a redshift dependence of $σ_8^0$ using 23 growth rate measurements from redshift space distortions and peculiar velocity measurements as a consistency check of $Λ$CDM. For this purpose we use the dataset from arXiv:1806.10822 consisting of 22 measurements, which has been vetted for internal consistencies. Eighteen of these measurements have been obtained from the Gold-2017 sample, collated from multiple redshift space distortion surveys between 2009 and 2016, whereas the remaining four have been obtained from the eBOSS DR14 quasar survey. We also added one additional data point from the BOSS DR12 CMASS galaxy sample. We find that for this dataset the $σ_8^0$ values are consistent between the low redshift and high redshift samples using three different redshift cuts. This implies that the growth rate measurements are consistent with a constant $σ_8^0$ in accord with $Λ$CDM, assuming there are no uncontrolled systematics in this dataset.

A derivative coupling of an axion like particle (ALP) with a B-L current may lead to the baryon asymmetry of the universe via spontaneous leptogenesis provided a lepton number breaking interaction prevails in thermal equilibrium. Conventionally, such scenario works only for heavy ALPs and high reheating temperature due to the fact that the same lepton number breaking contribution is tied up with neutrino mass generation also. In this work, we propose inert Higgs doublet assisted lepton number violating operator to relieve such tension so as to generate lepton asymmetry (of freeze-in/out type) with a much lower reheating temperature that can accommodate light (sub-GeV) ALPs sensitive to current and future ALP searches.

Galaxy clusters could produce gamma-rays from inverse Compton scattering of cosmic ray electrons or hadronic interactions of cosmic ray protons with the intracluster medium. It is still an open question on whether gamma-ray emission ($>$ GeV energies) has been detected from galaxy clusters. We carry out a systematic search for gamma-ray mission based on 300 galaxy clusters selected from the 2500 deg.$^2$ SPT-SZ survey after sorting them in descending order of $M_{500}/z^2$, using about 15 years of Fermi-LAT data in the energy range between 1-300 GeV. We were able to detect gamma-ray emission with significance of about $6.1σ$ from one cluster, viz SPT-CL J2012-5649. The estimated photon energy flux from this cluster is approximately equal to $1.3 \times 10^{-6}$ MeV cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. The gamma-ray signal is observed between $1-10$ GeV with the best-fit spectral index equal to $-3.61 \pm 0.33$. However, since there are six radio galaxies spatially coincident with SPT-CL J2012-5649 within the Fermi-LAT PSF, we cannot rule out the possibility this signal could be caused by some of these radio galaxies. Six other SPT-SZ clusters show evidence for gamma-ray emission with significance between $3-5σ$. None of the remaining clusters show statistically significant evidence for gamma-ray emission.

We have estimated the magnetic field strengths of a sample of seven galaxies using their non-thermal synchrotron radio emission at metre wavelengths, and assuming energy equipartition between magnetic fields and cosmic ray particles. Spatially resolved star formation rates (SFR) were estimated for the seven galaxies along with five galaxies studied previously. For the combined sample of twelve galaxies, the equipartition magnetic fields (B$_\textrm{eq}$) are correlated with the SFR surface densities ($Σ_\textrm{SFR}$) at sub-kpc scales with B$_\textrm{eq}$ $\propto$ $Σ_\textrm{SFR}^ {0.31\pm0.06}$, consistent with model predictions. We estimated gas densities ($ρ_\textrm{gas}$) for a sub-sample of seven galaxies using archival observations of the carbon monoxide (CO) rotational transitions and the atomic hydrogen (HI) 21 cm line and studied the spatially-resolved correlation between the magnetic fields and $ρ_\textrm{gas}$. Magnetic fields and gas densities are found to be correlated at sub-kpc scale as B$_\textrm{eq}$ $\propto$ $ρ_\textrm{gas}^{0.40\pm0.09}$. This is broadly consistent with models, which typically predict B $\propto$ $ρ_\textrm{gas}^{0.5}$.

The Seyfert galaxy NGC 2639 was known to exhibit three episodes of AGN jet/lobe activity. We present here the upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT) 735 MHz image of NGC 2639 showing a fourth episode as witnessed by the discovery of $\sim9$ kpc radio lobes misaligned with the previously known $\sim1.5$ kpc, $\sim360$ parsec, and $\sim3$ parsec jet features detected through the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) and the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), respectively. Using the spectral ageing software BRATS, we derive the ages of the $\sim9$ kpc, $\sim1.5$ kpc, and $\sim360$ parsec episodes to be, respectively, $34^{+4}_{-6}$ Myr, $11.8^{+1.7}_{-1.4}$ Myr, and $2.8^{+0.7}_{-0.5}$ Myr, and conclude that minor mergers occurred $9-22$ Myr apart. NGC 2639 shows a deficit of molecular gas in its central $\sim6$ kpc region. The GALEX NUV image also shows a deficiency of recent star-formation in the same region, while the star formation rate (SFR) surface density in NGC 2639 is lower by a factor of $5-18$ compared to the global Schmidt law of star-forming galaxies. This makes NGC 2639 a rare case of a Seyfert galaxy showing episodic jet activity and possible signatures of jet-driven AGN feedback.

We have observed seven nearby large angular sized galaxies at 0.33 GHz using GMRT with angular resolution of $\sim10''$ and sub-mJy sensitivity. Using archival higher frequency data at 1.4 or $\sim$6 GHz, we have then determined their spatially resolved non-thermal spectrum. As a general trend, we find that the spectral indices are comparatively flat at the galaxy centres and gradually steepen with increasing galactocentric distances. Using archival far infrared (FIR) MIPS 70 $μ m$ data, we estimate the exponent of radio-FIR correlation. One of the galaxy (NGC 4826) was found to have an exponent of the correlation of $\sim1.4$. Average exponent from 0.33 GHz data for the rest of the galaxies was 0.63$\pm$0.06 and is significantly flatter than the exponent 0.78$\pm$0.04 obtained using 1.4 GHz data. This indicates cosmic ray electron (CRe) propagation to have reduced the correlation between FIR and 0.33 GHz radio. Assuming a model of simple isotropic diffusion of CRe, we find that the scenario can explain the frequency dependent cosmic ray electron propagation length scales for only two galaxies. Invoking streaming instability could, however, explain the results for the majority of the remaining ones.
