We explore the generalized $f(R,T)$ modified theory of gravity, where the gravitational Lagrangian is a function of Ricci scalar $R$ and the trace of the energy-momentum tensor $T$. We derive modified field equations to the linear order of perturbations in the context of $f(R,T)$ model. We then investigate the growth of perturbations in the context of $f(R,T)$ modified gravity. Primary numerical investigations based on matter power spectra diagrams indicates a structure growth suppression in $f(R,T)$ gravity, which exhibits consistency with local measurements. Also, we notice that matter-geometry interaction in $f(R,T)$ model would results in the specific feature named as "matter acoustic oscillations" appeared in matter power spectra diagrams. Moreover, we put constraints on the cosmological parameters of $f(R,T)$ model, utilizing current observations, chiefly cosmic microwave background, weak lensing, supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, and redshift-space distortions data. Numerical results based on MCMC calculations imply that $f(R,T)$ is a qualified theory of modified gravity in reconciling Planck CMB data with local probes of large scale structures, by reporting lower values for the structure growth parameter $σ_8$ compared to the standard model of cosmology.

Magnetic reconnection is a process that plays a critical role in plasma astrophysics by converting magnetic energy into plasma particle energy. Recently, Comisso and Asenjo demonstrated that rapid magnetic reconnection within a black hole's ergosphere can efficiently extract energy from a rotating black hole. In this paper, by considering a Kerr black hole in the MOdified gravity (MOG) framework, we investigate the impact of the MOG parameter $α$ on the rotational energy extraction via the Comisso-Asenjo process (CAP). To model energy extraction from supermassive black holes located in the center of galaxies, we set the value of $α$ within the range inferred from the recent observation of Sgr A* by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). Our results indicate that the Kerr-MOG black hole is a more efficient host for CAP-based rotational energy extraction compared to the Kerr black hole, since it amplifies the power of energy extraction and efficiency of the plasma energization process. We show that, from the energy extraction viewpoint, the CAP is more efficient than the Blandford-Znajek process (BZP). The latter is another magnetic field-based energy extraction model which is widely believed to be an engine for powering the high-energy astrophysics jets emerging from the supermassive black holes at active galactic nuclei. In particular, we show that the ratio of the energy extraction power of CAP to BZP in the presence of the MOG parameter is greater than that of the Kerr black hole. Our results promise this phenomenological message that the MOG-induced correction on the Kerr black hole background plays an important role in favor of energy extraction via the CAP.

We use parameterized post-Friedmann (PPF) description for dark energy and apply ellipsoidal nested sampling to perform the Bayesian model selection method on different time-dependent dark energy models using a combination of $Planck$ and data based on distance measurements, namely baryon acoustic oscillations and supernovae luminosity distance. Models with two and three free parameters described in terms of linear scale factor $a$, or scaled in units of e-folding $\ln a$ are considered. Our results show that parameterizing dark energy in terms of $\ln a$ provides better constraints on the free parameters than polynomial expressions. In general, two free-parameter models are adequate to describe the dynamics of the dark energy compared to their three free-parameter generalizations. According to the Bayesian evidence, determining the strength of support for cosmological constant $Λ$ over polynomial dark energy models remains inconclusive. Furthermore, considering the $R$ statistic as the tension metric shows that one of the polynomial models gives rise to a tension between $Planck$ and distance measurements data sets. The preference for the logarithmic equation of state over $Λ$ is inconclusive, and the strength of support for $\rm Λ$CDM over the oscillating model is moderate.

Employing the spherical collapse (SC) formalism, we investigate the linear evolution of the matter over-density for energy-momentum-squared gravity (EMSG), which in practical phenomenological terms, one may imagine as an extension of the ΛCDM model of cosmology. The underlying model, while still having a cosmological constant, is a non-linear material extension of the general theory of relativity (GTR) and includes correction terms that are dominant in the high-energy regime, the early universe. Considering the Friedman{Robertson{Walker (FRW) background in the presence of a cosmological constant, we find the effects of the modifications arising from EMSG on the growth of perturbations at the early stages of the universe. Considering both possible negative and positive values of the model parameter of EMSG, we discuss its role in the evolution of the matter density contrast and growth function in the level of linear perturbations. While EMSG leaves imprints distinguishable from ΛCDM, we find that the negative range of the ESMG model parameter is not well-behaved, indicating an anomaly in the parameter space of the model. In this regard, for the evaluation of the galaxy cluster number count in the framework of EMSG, we equivalently provide an analysis of the number count of the gravitationally collapsed objects (or the dark matter halos). We show that the galaxy cluster number count decreases compared to the ΛCDM model. In agreement with the hierarchical model of structure formation, in EMSG cosmology the more massive structures are less abundant, meaning that form at later times.

In this model a single Lorentz-violating timelike vector field with a nonzero vacuum expectation value (VEV) couples to the Ricci tensor and scalar, as well. Taking the ansatz $B(t)\sim t^β$ for the time evolution of the vector field we derive the relevant dynamic equations of the Universe, where $β$ is a free parameter. In particular, by employing observational data coming from the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) and the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Baryogenesis era, we impose some constraints on the VEV of the bumblebee timelike vector field i.e., $ξb^2$, and the exponent parameter $β$. The former and the latter limit the size of Lorentz violation, and the rate of the time evolution of the background Lorentz-violating bumblebee field, respectively.

We study the multi-fractional theory with $q$-derivatives, where the multi-fractional measure is considered to be in the time direction. The evolution of power spectra and also the expansion history of the universe are investigated in the $q$-derivatives theory. According to the matter power spectra diagrams, the structure growth would increase in the multi-fractional model, expressing incompatibility with low redshift measurements of large scale structures. Furthermore, concerning the diagrams of Hubble parameter evolution, there is a reduction in the value of Hubble constant which conflicts with local cosmological constraints. Thus, primary numerical investigations imply that $q$-derivatives theory has no potential to relieve observational tensions. We also explore the multi-fractional model with current observational data, principally Planck 2018, weak lensing, supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO), and redshift-space distortions (RSD) measurements. Numerical analysis reveals that the degeneracy between multi-fractional parameters makes them remain unconstrained under observations. Furthermore, observational constraints on $H_0$ and $σ_8$, detect no significant departure from standard model of cosmology.

Considering the entropy associated with the horizon in the form of non-extensive Tsallis entropy, $S\sim A^β$ here we first derive the corresponding gravitational field equations by applying the Clausius relation $δQ=T δS$ to the horizon. We then construct the Friedmann equations of Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe based on Tsallis modified gravity (TMG). Moreover, in order to constrain the cosmological parameters of TMG model, we use observational data, including Planck cosmic microwave background (CMB), weak lensing, supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO), and redshift-space distortions (RSD) data. Numerical results indicate that TMG model with a quintessential dark energy is more compatible with the low redshift measurements of large scale structures by predicting a lower value for the structure growth parameter $σ_8$ with respect to $Λ$CDM model. This implies that TMG model would slightly alleviate the $σ_8$ tension.

Many theoretical attempts toward reconstructing the potential and dynamics of the scalar fields have been done in the literature by establishing a connection between holographic/agegraphic energy density and a scalar field model of dark energy. However, in most of these cases the analytical form of the potentials in terms of the scalar field have not been reconstructed due to the complexity of the equations involved. In this paper, by taking Hubble radius as system's IR cutoff, we are able to reconstruct the analytical form of the potentials as a function of scalar field, namely $V=V(φ)$ as well as the dynamics of the scalar fields as a function of time, namely $φ=φ(t)$ by establishing the correspondence between holographic energy density and quintessence, tachyon, K-essence and dilaton energy density in a flat FRW universe. The reconstructed potentials are quite reasonable and have scaling solutions. Our study further supports the viability of the holographic dark energy model with Hubble radius as IR cutoff.

A new dark energy model called "ghost dark energy" was recently suggested to explain the observed accelerating expansion of the universe. This model originates from the Veneziano ghost of QCD. The dark energy density is proportional to Hubble parameter, $ρ_D=αH$, where $α$ is a constant of order $Λ_{\rm QCD}^3$ and $Λ_{\rm QCD}\sim 100 MeV$ is QCD mass scale. In this paper, we extend the ghost dark energy model to the universe with spatial curvature in the presence of interaction between dark matter and dark energy. We study cosmological implications of this model in detail. In the absence of interaction the equation of state parameter of ghost dark energy is always $w_D > -1 $ and mimics a cosmological constant in the late time, while it is possible to have $w_D < -1 $ provided the interaction is taken into account. When $k = 0$, all previous results of ghost dark energy in flat universe are recovered. To check the observational consistency, we use Supernova type Ia (SNIa) Gold sample, shift parameter of Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) and the Baryonic Acoustic Oscillation peak from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The best fit values of free parameter at $1σ$ confidence interval are: $Ω_m^0= 0.35^{+0.02}_{-0.03}$, $Ω_D^0=0.75_{-0.04}^{+0.01}$ and $b^2=0.08^{+0.03}_{-0.03}$. Consequently the total energy density of universe at present time in this model at 68% level equates to $Ω_{\rm tot}^0=1.10^{+0.02}_{-0.05}$.

We investigate the viability of the braneworld model with energy exchange between the brane and bulk, by using the most recent observational data related to the background evolution. We show that this energy exchange behaves like a source of dark energy and can alter the profile of the cosmic expansion. The new Supernova Type Ia (SNIa) Gold sample, Supernova Legacy Survey (SNLS) data, the position of the acoustic peak at the last scattering surface from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) observations and the baryon acoustic oscillation peak found in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) are used to constrain the free parameters of this model. To infer its consistency with the age of the Universe, we compare the age of old cosmological objects with what computed using the best fit values for the model parameters. At 68% level of confidence, the combination of Gold sample SNIa, Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) shift parameter and SDSS databases provide $Ω_m=0.29_{-0.02}^{+0.03}$, $Ω_{A}=-0.71_{-0.03}^{+0.03}$ and $μ=-0.40_{-0.26}^{+0.28}$, hence a spatially flat Universe with $Ω_K=0.00_{-0.04}^{+0.04}$. The same combination with SNLS supernova observation give $Ω_m=0.27_{-0.02}^{+0.02}$, $Ω_{A}=-0.74_{-0.02}^{+0.04}$ and $μ=0.00_{-0.30}^{+0.30}$ consequently provides a spatially flat Universe $Ω_K=-0.01_{-0.03}^{+0.04}$. In this paper we first obtain Friedmann equations for the $(n-1)$-dimensional brane embedded in the $(n+1)$-dimensional bulk, with intrinsic curvature term of the brane included in the action (DGP model). Then, we show that one can always rewrite the Friedmann equations in the form of the first law of thermodynamics, $dE=TdS+WdV$, at apparent horizon on the brane, regardless of whether there is the intrinsic curvature term on the brane or a cosmological constant in the bulk. Using the first law, we extract the entropy expression of the apparent horizon on the brane. We also show that in the case without the intrinsic curvature term, the entropy expressions are the same by using the apparent horizon on the brane and by using the bulk geometry. When the intrinsic curvature appears, the entropy of apparent horizon on the brane has two parts, one part follows the $n$-dimensional area formula on the brane, and the other part is the same as the entropy in the case without the intrinsic curvature term. As an interesting result, in the warped DGP model, the entropy expression in the bulk and on the brane are not the same. This is reasonable, since in this model gravity on the brane has two parts, one induced from the $(n+1)$-dimensional bulk gravity and the other due to the intrinsic curvature term on the brane.
