We propose a data-assimilation method for evaluating the finite-temperature magnetization of a permanent magnet over a high-dimensional composition space. Based on a general framework for constructing a predictor from two data sets including missing values, a practical scheme for magnetic materials is formulated in which a small number of experimental data in limited composition space are integrated with a larger number of first-principles calculation data. We apply the scheme to (Nd$_{1-α-β-γ}$Pr$_α$La$_β$Ce$_γ$)$_{2}$(Fe$_{1-δ-ζ}$Co$_δ$Ni$_ζ$)$_{14}$B. The magnetization in the whole $(α, β, γ, δ, ζ)$ space at arbitrary temperature is obtained. It is shown that the Co doping does not enhance the magnetization at low temperatures, whereas the magnetization increases with increasing $δ$ above 320 K.

Multi-layered materials provide fascinating platforms to realize various functional properties, possibly leading to future electronic devices controlled by external fields. In particular, layered magnets coupled with conducting layers have been extensively studied recently for possible control of their transport properties via the spin structure. Successful control of quantum-transport properties in the materials with antiferromagnetic (AFM) layers, so-called natural spin-valve structure, has been reported for the Dirac Fermion and topological/axion materials. However, a bulk crystal in which magnetic and superconducting layers are alternately stacked has not been realized until now, and the search for functional properties in it is an interesting yet unexplored field in material science. Here, we discover superconductivity providing such an ideal platform in EuSn2As2 with the van der Waals stacking of magnetic Eu layers and superconducting Sn-As layers, and present the first demonstration of a natural spin-valve effect on the superconducting current. Below the superconducting transition temperature (Tc), the electrical resistivity becomes zero in the in-plane direction. In contrast, it, surprisingly, remains finite down to the lowest temperature in the out-of-plane direction, mostly due to the structure of intrinsic magnetic Josephson junctions in EuSn2As2. The magnetic order of the Eu layers (or natural spin-valve) is observed to be extremely soft, allowing one to easy control of the out-of-plane to in-plane resistivities ratio from 1 to infinity by weak external magnetic fields. The concept of multi-functional materials with stacked magnetic-superconducting layers will open a new pathway to develop novel spintronic devices with magnetically controllable superconductivity.

The electronic structure of the ferromagnetic material CeRh$_{3}$B$_{2}$ is studied by means of first-principles calculations with an emphasis on the treatment of localized $4f$ states around Ce. Via the construction of an effective spin model from electronic structure calculations, we estimated the Curie temperature $T_{\rm C}$ of CeRh$_{3}$B$_{2}$ and found a specific configuration of the electronic structure which explains the exceptionally high measured value of $T_{\rm C} \sim 120$ K as well as the small saturation magnetization and the topology of the Fermi surface. Present advance in the understanding of the subtle nature of the $4f$-electron state in CeRh$_{3}$B$_{2}$ that brings about the exceptionally high $T_{\rm C}$ should be also of technological relevance to exploit the utility of Ce in rare-earth permanent magnets.

We investigate the effects of magnetic inhomogeneities and thermal fluctuations on the magnetic properties of a rare earth intermetallic compound, Nd$_2$Fe$_{14}$B. The constrained Monte Carlo method is applied to a Nd$_2$Fe$_{14}$B bulk system to realize the experimentally observed spin reorientation and magnetic anisotropy constants $K^{\rm A}_m (m=1, 2, 4)$ at finite temperatures. % Subsequently, it is found that the temperature dependence of $K^{\rm A}_1$ deviates from the Callen--Callen law, $K^{\rm A}_1(T) \propto M(T)^3$, even above room temperature, $T_{\rm R}\sim 300\rm\, K$, when the Fe (Nd) anisotropy terms are removed to leave only the Nd (Fe) anisotropy terms. This is because the exchange couplings between Nd moments and Fe spins are much smaller than those between Fe spins. % It is also found that the exponent $n$ in the external magnetic field $H_{\rm ext}$ response of barrier height $\mathcal{F}_{\rm B}=\mathcal{F}_{\rm B}^0(1-H_{\rm ext}/H_0)^n$ is less than $2$ in the low-temperature region below $T_{\rm R}$, whereas $n$ approaches $2$ when $T>T_{\rm R}$, indicating the presence of Stoner--Wohlfarth-type magnetization rotation. This reflects the fact that the magnetic anisotropy is mainly governed by the $K^{\rm A}_1$ term in the $T>T_{\rm R}$ region.

A classical spin model derived ab initio for rare-earth-based permanent magnet compounds is presented. Our target compound, NdFe$_{12}$N, is a material that goes beyond today's champion magnet compound Nd$_{2}$Fe$_{14}$B in its intrinsic magnetic properties with a simpler crystal structure. Calculated temperature dependence of the magnetization and the anisotropy field agree with the latest experimental results in the leading order. Having put the realistic observables under our numerical control, we propose that engineering $5d$-electron-mediated indirect exchange coupling between $4f$-electrons in Nd and $3d$-electrons from Fe would most critically help to enhance the material's utility over the operation-temperature range.

We study the three-dimensional random Z(2) lattice gauge theory with Higgs field, which has the link Higgs coupling $c_1 SUS$ and the plaquette gauge coupling $c_2 UUUU$. The randomness is introduced by replacing $c_1 \to -c_1$ for each link with the probability $p_1$ and $c_2 \to -c_2$ for each plaquette with the probability $p_2$. We calculate the phase diagram by a new kind of mean field theory that does not assume the replica symmetry and also by Monte Carlo simulations. For the case $p_1=p_2(\equiv p)$, the Monte Carlo simulations exhibit that (i) the region of the Higgs phase in the Coulomb-Higgs transition diminishes as $p$ increases, and (ii) the first-order phase transition between the Higgs and the confinement phases disappear for $p \ge p_c \simeq 0.01$. We discuss the implications of the results to the quantum memory studied by Kitaev et al. and the Z(2) gauge neural network on a lattice.

We study the effects of quenched disorder on the two-dimensional d-wave superconductors (SC's) at zero temperature by Monte-Carlo simulations. The model is defined on the three-dimesional (3D) lattice and the SC pair field is put on each spatial link as motivated in the resonating-valence-bond theory of the high-$T_{\rm c}$ SC's. For the nonrandom case, the model exhibits a second-order phase transition to a SC state as density of charge carriers is increased. It belongs to the universality class {\it different from} that of the 3D XY model. Quenched disorders (impurities) are introduced both in the hopping amplitude and the plaquette term of pair fields. Then the second-order transition disappears at a critical concentration of quenched disorder, $p_c\simeq 15%$. Implication of the results to cold atomic systems in optical lattices is also discussed.

We study the three-dimensional (3D) compact U(1) lattice gauge theory coupled with $N$-flavor Higgs fields by means of the Monte Carlo simulations. This model is relevant to multi-component superconductors, antiferromagnetic spin systems in easy plane, inflational cosmology, etc. It is known that there is no phase transition in the N=1 model. For N=2, we found that the system has a second-order phase transition line $\tilde{c}_1(c_2)$ in the $c_2$(gauge coupling)$-c_1$(Higgs coupling) plane, which separates the confinement phase and the Higgs phase. Numerical results suggest that the phase transition belongs to the universality class of the 3D XY model as the previous works by Babaev et al. and Smiseth et al. suggested. For N=3, we found that there exists a critical line similar to that in the N=2 model, but the critical line is separated into two parts; one for $c_2 < c_{2{\rm tc}}=2.4\pm 0.1$ with first-order transitions, and the other for $ c_{2{\rm tc}} < c_2$ with second-order transitions, indicating the existence of a tricritical point. We verified that similar phase diagram appears for the N=4 and N=5 systems. We also studied the case of anistropic Higgs coupling in the N=3 model and found that there appear two second-order phase transitions or a single second-order transition and a crossover depending on the values of the anisotropic Higgs couplings. This result indicates that an "enhancement" of phase transition occurs when multiple phase transitions coincide at a certain point in the parameter space.
