The presence of hot carriers is presented in the operational properties of an (FA,Cs)Pb(I, Br, Cl)3 solar cell at ambient temperatures and under practical solar concentration. At 100 K, clear evidence of hot carriers is observed in both the high energy tail of the photoluminescence spectra and from the appearance of a non-equilibrium photocurrent at higher fluence in light J-V measurements. At room temperature, however, the presence of hot carriers in the emission at elevated laser fluence are shown to compete with a gradual red shift in the PL peak energy as photo induced halide segregation begins to occur at higher lattice temperature. The effects of thermionic emission of hot carriers and the presence of a non-equilibrium carrier distribution are also shown to be distinct from simple lattice heating. This results in large unsaturated photocurrents at high powers as the Fermi distribution exceeds that of the heterointerface controlling carrier transport and rectification.

We propose a frustration-free model for the Moore-Read quantum Hall state on sufficiently thin cylinders with circumferences $\lesssim 7$ magnetic lengths. While the Moore-Read Hamiltonian involves complicated long-range interactions between triplets of electrons in a Landau level, our effective model is a simpler one-dimensional chain of qubits with deformed Fredkin gates. We show that the ground state of the Fredkin model has high overlap with the Moore-Read wave function and accurately reproduces the latter's entanglement properties. Moreover, we demonstrate that the model captures the dynamical response of the Moore-Read state to a geometric quench, induced by suddenly changing the anisotropy of the system. We elucidate the underlying mechanism of the quench dynamics and show that it coincides with the linearized bimetric field theory. The minimal model introduced here can be directly implemented as a first step towards quantum simulation of the Moore-Read state, as we demonstrate by deriving an efficient circuit approximation to the ground state and implementing it on IBM quantum processor.

Direct experimental detection of anyonic exchange statistics in fractional quantum Hall systems by braiding the excitations and measuring the wave-function phase is an enormous challenge. Here, we use a small, noisy quantum computer to emulate direct braiding within the framework of a simplified model applicable to a thin cylinder geometry and measure the topological phase. Our algorithm first prepares the ground state with two quasiholes. It then applies a unitary operation controlled by an ancilla, corresponding to a sequence of adiabatic evolutions that takes one quasihole around the other. We finally extract the phase of the wave function from measuring the ancilla with a compound error mitigation strategy. Our results open a new avenue for studying braiding statistics in fractional Hall states.

We demonstrate the formation of robust zero energy modes close to magnetic impurities in the iron-based superconductor FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_x$. We find that the Zeeman field generated by the impurity favors a spin-triplet inter-orbital pairing as opposed to the spin-singlet intra-orbital pairing prevalent in the bulk. The preferred spin-triplet pairing preserves time-reversal symmetry and is topological, as robust, topologically-protected zero modes emerge at the boundary between regions with different pairing states. Moreover, the zero modes form Kramers doublets that are insensitive to the direction of the spin polarization or to the separation between impurities. We argue that our theoretical results are consistent with recent experimental measurements on FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_x$.

Intermediate-scale quantum technologies provide new opportunities for scientific discovery, yet they also pose the challenge of identifying suitable problems that can take advantage of such devices in spite of their present-day limitations. In solid-state materials, fractional quantum Hall (FQH) phases continue to attract attention as hosts of emergent geometrical excitations analogous to gravitons, resulting from the non-perturbative interactions between the electrons. However, the direct observation of such excitations remains a challenge. Here, we identify a quasi-one-dimensional model that captures the geometric properties and graviton dynamics of FQH states. We then simulate geometric quench and the subsequent graviton dynamics on the IBM quantum computer using an optimally-compiled Trotter circuit with bespoke error mitigation. Moreover, we develop an efficient, optimal-control-based variational quantum algorithm that can efficiently simulate graviton dynamics in larger systems. Our results open a new avenue for studying the emergence of gravitons in a new class of tractable models on the existing quantum hardware.

Praseodymium-based 1-2-20 cage compounds Pr$T_2X_{20}$ ($T$ is generally Ti, V, Nb, Ru, Rh, Ir; and $X$ is either Al, Zn or Cd) provide yet another platform to study non-trivial electronic states of matter ranging from topological and magnetic orders to unconventional multipolar orders and superconductivity. In this paper, we report measurements of the electronic heat capacity in two Pr-based 1-2-20 materials: PrNi$_2$Cd$_{20}$ and PrPd$_2$Cd$_{20}$. We find that the lowest energy multiplet of the Pr $4f^2$ valence configuration is a $Γ_3$ non-Kramers doublet and the first excited triplet is assumed to be a magnetic $Γ_5$. By analyzing the dependence of the energy splitting between the ground and first excited singlet states on external magnetic field, we found that the maximum in the heat capacity corresponding to the Schottky anomaly in PrPd$_2$Cd$_{20}$, unlike PrNi$_2$Cd$_{20}$, shows pronounced linear dependence on external magnetic field at higher field values. This effect is associated with the exchange interactions between the field-induced magnetic dipole moments.

We consider a general problem of a Josephson contact between two multiband superconductors with coexisting superconducting and magnetic phases. As a particular example, we use the quasiclassical theory of superconductivity to study the properties of a Josephson contact between two disordered $s^{\pm}$-wave superconductors allowing for the coexistence between superconductivity and spin-density-wave orders. The intra- and inter-band scattering effects of disorder are treated within the self-consistent Born approximation. We calculate the spatial profile of the corresponding order parameters on both sides of the interface assuming that the interface has finite reflection coefficient and use our results to evaluate the local density of states at the interface as well as critical supercurrent through the junction as a function of phase or applied voltage. Our methods are particularly well suited for describing spatially inhomogeneous states of iron-based superconductors where controlled structural disorder can be created by an electron irradiation. We reveal the connection between our theory and the circuit-theory of Andreev reflection and extend it to superconducting junctions of arbitrary nature. Lastly, we outline directions for further developments in the context of proximity circuits of correlated electron systems.

We consider a problem of non-adiabatic dynamics of a 2D fermionic system with $d+id$-wave symmetry of paring amplitude. Under the mean-field approximation, we determine the asymptotic behavior of the pairing amplitude following a sudden change of coupling strength. We also study an extended $d+id$ pairing system for which the long-time asymptotic states of the pairing amplitude in the collisionless regime can be determined exactly. By using numerical methods, we have identified three non-equilibrium steady states described by different long-time asymptotes of the pairing amplitude for both the non-integrable and the integrable versions of $d+id$-wave models. We found that despite of its lack of integrability, long-time dynamics resulting from pairing quenches in the non-integrable $d+id$ model are essentially similar to the ones found for its exactly-integrable extended $d+id$ model. We also obtain the long-time phase diagram of the extended $d+id$ model through the Lax construction that exploits underlying integrability showing that the dynamic phases obtained by numerics are consistent with the dynamics of the exactly integrable approach. Both models describe a topological fermionic system with a topologically non-trivial BCS phase appearing at weak coupling strength. We show that the presence of oscillating order parameter region in the chiral $d+id$ pairing dynamics differs from the d-wave ($d_{x^2-y^2}$), which may be used to probe pairing symmetries of chiral superconductors.

We allow for imbalanced populations and take into account the effects due to presence of a parabolic trapping potential. Within the mean-field approximation for the one- and two-channel pairing models we show that depending on the distance from the center of a trap at least two superfluid states will have the lowest energy. Superfluid shells which emerge in a trap may have two out of three angular components of the p-wave superfluid order parameter equal to zero.

We study a problem of non-adiabatic superfluid dynamics of spin-orbit coupled neutral fermions in two spatial dimensions. We focus on the two cases when the out-of-equilibrium conditions are initiated either by a sudden change of the pairing strength or the population imbalance. For the case of zero population imbalance and within the mean-field approximation, the non-adiabatic evolution of the pairing amplitude in a collisionless regime can be found exactly by employing the method of Lax vector construction. Our main finding is that the presence of the spin-orbit coupling significantly reduces the region in the parameter space where a steady state with periodically oscillating pairing amplitude is realized. For the collisionless dynamics initiated by a sudden disappearance of the population imbalance we obtain an exact expression for the steady state pairing amplitude. In the general case of quenches to a state with finite population imbalance we show that there is a region in the steady state phase diagram where at long times the pairing amplitude dynamics is governed by the reduced number of the equations of motion in full analogy with exactly integrable case.
