We study the quantum walk on the off-diagonal Aubry-Andre-Harper (AAH) lattice with quasiperiodic modulation using a digital quantum computer. Our investigation starts with exploring the single-particle quantum walk, where we study various initial states, hopping modulation strengths, and phase factors Initiating the quantum walk with a particle at the lattice edge highlights the robustness of the edge state due to the topological nature of the AAH model and reveals how this edge state is influenced by the phase factor. Conversely, when a particle starts the quantum walk from the lattice bulk, we observe the bulk walker being repelled from the edge, especially in the presence of strong hopping modulation. Furthermore, we investigate the quantum walk of two particles with nearest-neighbor interaction, emphasizing the repulsion between edge and bulk walkers caused by the interaction. Also, we explore the dynamics of two interacting particles in the lattice bulk and find interesting bulk localization through the formation of bound states influenced by the combined effect of hopping modulation and nearest-neighbor interaction. These features are analyzed by studying physical quantities like density evolution, quantum correlation, and participation entropy, and exploring their potential applications in quantum technologies.

We revisit the celebrated Hellmann-Feynman theorem (HFT) in the PT invariant non-Hermitian quantum physics framework. We derive a modified version of HFT by changing the definition of inner product and explicitly show that it holds good for both PT broken, unbroken phases and even at the exceptional point of the theory. The derivation is extremely general and works for even PT non-invariant Hamiltonian. We consider several examples of discrete and continuum systems to test our results. We find that if the eigenvalue goes through a real to complex transition as a function of the Hermiticity breaking parameter, both sides of the modified HFT expression diverge at that point. If that point turns out to be an EP of the PT invariant quantum theory, then one also sees the divergence at EP. Finally, we also derive a generalized Virial theorem for non-Hermitian systems using the modified HFT, which potentially can be tested in experiments.

We show that classical DNA unzipping transition which is equivalently described by quantum mechanical localization-delocalization transition in the ground state of non-Hermitian Hatano-Nelson Hamiltonian is underpinned by generalized parity (P)-time reversal (T) symmetry breaking transition. We also study the one-dimensional discretized version of Hatano-Nelson model in the presence of the single impurity and quasiperiodic potential on a finite-size lattice. Our results show that these models undergo a phase transition from a PT unbroken phase to a broken phase. Interestingly, the generalized PT phase transition points also coincide with the localization-delocalization transition for both models.

Much has been learned about universal properties of the eigenstate entanglement entropy for one-dimensional lattice models, which is described by a Hermitian Hamiltonian. While very less of it has been understood for non-Hermitian systems. In the present work we study a non-Hermitian, non-interacting model of fermions which is invariant under combined $PT$ transformation. Our models show a phase transition from $PT$ unbroken phase to broken phase as we tune the hermiticity breaking parameter. Entanglement entropy of such systems can be defined in two different ways, depending on whether we consider only right (or equivalently only left) eigenstates or a combination of both left and right eigenstates which form a complete set of bi-orthonormal eigenstates. We demonstrate that the entanglement entropy of the ground state and also of the typical excited states show some unique features in both of these phases of the system. Most strikingly, entanglement entropy obtained taking a combination of both left and right eigenstates shows an exponential divergence with system size at the transition point. While in the $PT$-unbroken phase, the entanglement entropy obtained from only the right (or equivalently left) eigenstates shows identical behavior as of an equivalent Hermitian system which is connected to the non-Hermitian system by a similarity transformation.

By adding an additional potential on the Ni d states we are able to vary the charge tranfer energy and compute relaxed structures within an ab-initio framework. We show that the difference in Ni-O bond lengths and the value of the ordered state magnetic moment correlate with the charge transfer energy and that the transition to the bond-disproportionated state occurs when the effective charge transfer energy becomes negative.

By using the technique of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, we study a quasi exactly solvable extension of the N-particle rational Calogero model with harmonic confining interaction. Such quasi exactly solvable many particle system, whose effective potential in the radial direction yields a supersymmetric partner of the radial harmonic oscillator, is constructed by including new long-range interactions to the rational Calogero model. An infinite number of bound state energy levels are obtained for this system under certain conditions. We also calculate the corresponding bound state wave functions in terms of the recently discovered exceptional orthogonal Laguerre polynomials.

Their location in the phase diagram also determines how they would behave under quantum confinement which would increase the charge transfer energy. The ferromagnetic stability of Mn doped GaAs, we find, increases with confinement therefore providing a route to higher ferromagnetic transition temperatures.

Taking the example of SrRuO$_3$ which is ferromagnetic and metallic at the bulk limit, one finds that it becomes antiferromagnetic and insulating at the three monolayers limit when grown on SrTiO$_3$. The origin of the insulating state is traced to strongly orbital dependent exchange splittings. A modest compressive strain of 1% of the SrTiO$_3$ substrate is then found to drive the system into a highly confined two-dimensional 100% spin polarized metallic state. This metal-insulator transition driven by a modest strain could be useful in two state device applications.

We study the effects of the shear force on the rupture mechanism on a double stranded DNA. Motivated by recent experiments, we perform the atomistic simulations with explicit solvent to obtain the distributions of extension in hydrogen and covalent bonds below the rupture force. We obtain a significant difference between the atomistic simulations and the existing results in the iterature based on the coarse-grained models (theory and simulations). We discuss the possible reasons and improve the coarse-grained model by incorporating the consequences of semi-microscopic details of the nucleotides in its description. The distributions obtained by the modified model (simulations and theoretical) are qualitatively similar to the one obtained using atomistic simulations.

All samples, including undoped MgO nanoparticles, exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism, with the saturation magnetization reaching a maximum of 0.023 emu/g at 2 at.% of Al. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy identifies the presence of oxygen vacancies in both doped and undoped MgO nanoparticles, with the vacancy concentration increasing upon vacuum annealing of Mg(Al)O, resulting in two-fold enhancement of the saturation magnetization for 2 at.% Al-doped MgO. Our results suggest that the oxygen vacancies are largely responsible for room temperature ferromagnetism in MgO.

Here we discuss two many-particle quantum systems, which are obtained by adding some nonhermitian but PT (i.e. combined parity and time reversal) invariant interaction to the Calogero model with and without confining potential. It is shown that the energy eigenvalues are real for both of these quantum systems. For the case of extended Calogero model with confining potential, we obtain discrete bound states satisfying generalised exclusion statistics. On the other hand, the extended Calogero model without confining term gives rise to scattering states with continuous spectrum. The scattering phase shift for this case is determined through the exchange statistics parameter. We find that, unlike the case of usual Calogero model, the exclusion and exchange statistics parameter differ from each other in the presence of PT invariant interaction.

The quantum Hall effect is studied by introducing two different matrix variables for electrons and holes, having Chern-Simons type interactions. By generalizing the constraint condition proposed by Susskind to realize the Pauli's exclusion principle in this two component matrix model, the classical exciton solution having excitation of both quasi-electron and quasi-hole is obtained. The constraint condition is also solved quantum mechanically in the infinite-sized matrix case, giving the examples of the physical states. Using these quantum states, the corrections of the exciton energy, coming from the noncommutativity of space (Pauli principle) and from the quantum effects of the background state, are estimated in the lowest order perturbation expansion. As a result, the dispersion relation of exciton is obtained.
