The theory of hierarchical equations of motion (HEOM) is one of the standard methods to give exact evaluations of the dynamics as coupled to harmonic oscillator environments. However, the theory is numerically demanding due to its hierarchy, which is the set of auxiliary elements introduced to capture the non-Markovian and non-perturbative effects of environments. When system-bath coupling becomes relatively strong, the required computational resources and precision move beyond the regime that can be currently handled. This article presents a new representation of HEOM theory in which the hierarchy is mapped into a continuous space of a collective bath coordinate and several auxiliary coordinates as the form of the quantum Fokker-Planck equation. This representation gives a rigorous time evolution of the bath coordinate distribution and is more stable and efficient than the original HEOM theory, particularly when there is a strong system-bath coupling. We demonstrate the suitability of this approach to treat vibronic system models coupled to environments.

Abstract:
In the quasi-one-dimensional superconductor, Pr$_2$Ba$_4$Cu$_7$O$_{15-δ}$, we found that the lattice parameter, $a$ increased against pressure, starting at 2.0 GPa at approximately 300 K. This result suggests that the two-dimensional inter-conducting-chain interaction along the $a$ axis is most enhanced at approximately 2.0 GPa. This result suggests that the two-dimensional inter-conducting-chain interaction along the $a$ axis is most enhanced at approximately 2.0 GPa. To discuss the dimensionality, we also measured the resistance under magnetic fields up to 14 T, because magneto-resistance is induced when a system changes from one-dimensional to two-dimensional.

Polycrystalline Al7+xFe23Ge14-x-type orthorhombic Al8.5-xFe23Ge12.5+x (0<=x<=3) compounds were studied by X-ray diffraction measurement, metallographic examination, and magnetization and electrical resistivity measurements. The lattice parameters show anisotropic x dependences, reflecting a lower symmetry of rather complex crystal structure. In the x=0 sample, a ferromagnetic (FM) transition occurs at the Curie temperature TC of 255 K, which is systematically reduced with increasing x and disappears at x=2.5 where an antiferromagnetic (AFM) ground state is realized. The Neel temperature TN seems to appear at x>=1, and grows to 143 K at x=3 with the increment of x. In the intermediate range of x (1<=x<=2), a FM to AFM phase transition occurs below TC. In the AFM phase, the electrical resistivity rho shows a Fermi surface instability characterized by the upturn of rho below approximately TN. The competition between the FM and AFM states would be ascribed to the anisotropic x dependences of Fe-Fe bond lengths.

Due to its exceptional lithium storage capacity silicon is considered as a promising candidate for anode material in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). In the present work we demonstrate that methods of the soft X-ray emission spectroscopy (SXES) can be used as a powerful tool for the comprehensive analysis of the electronic and structural properties of lithium silicides Li$_{x}$Si forming in LIB's anode upon Si lithiation. On the basis of density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations it is shown that coordination of Si atoms in Li$_{x}$Si decreases with increase in Li concentration both for the crystalline and amorphous phases. In amorphous a-Li$_{x}$Si alloys Si tends to cluster forming Si-Si covalent bonds even at the high lithium concentration. It is demonstrated that the Si-L$_{2,3}$ emission bands of the crystalline and amorphous Li$_{x}$Si alloys show different spectral dependencies reflecting the process of disintegration of Si-Si network into Si clusters and chains of the different sizes upon Si lithiation. The Si-L$_{2,3}$ emission band of Li$_{x}$Si alloys become narrower and shifts towards higher energies with an increase in Li concentration. The shape of the emission band depends on the relative contribution of the X-ray radiation from the Si atoms having different coordination. This feature of the Si-L$_{2,3}$ spectra of Li$_{x}$Si alloys can be used for the detailed analysis of the Si lithiation process and LIB's anode structure identification.

We performed X-ray diffraction and electrical resistivity measurement up to pressures of 5 GPa and the first-principles calculations utilizing experimental structural parameters to investigate the pressure-induced topological phase transition in BiTeBr having a noncentrosymmetric layered structure (space group P3m1). The P3m1 structure remains stable up to pressures of 5 GPa; the ratio of lattice constants, c/a, has a minimum at pressures of 2.5 - 3 GPa. In the same range, the temperature dependence of resistivity changes from metallic to semiconducting at 3 GPa and has a plateau region between 50 and 150 K in the semiconducting state. Meanwhile, the pressure variation of band structure shows that the bulk band-gap energy closes at 2.9 GPa and re-opens at higher pressures. Furthermore, according to the Wilson loop analysis, the topological nature of electronic states in noncentrosymmetric BiTeBr at 0 and 5 GPa are explicitly revealed to be trivial and non-trivial, respectively. These results strongly suggest that pressure-induced topological phase transition in BiTeBr occurs at the pressures of 2.9 GPa.

The crystal structure and electrical resistivity of YBa$_2$Cu$_4$O$_8$ (Y124) were studied under high pressure up to 18 GPa using diamond-anvil cells, respectively, in order to clarify its conduction mechanism. Y124 causes the first-order phase-transition into the orthorhombic Immm at pressure around 11 GPa. The high-pressure phase (HPP) also shows the superconductivity, while the manner of temperature dependence of electrical resistance and the pressure dependence of transition temperature, Tc, drastically change above 11 GPa. The CuO$_2$ plane persists in HPP but the CuO double chains collapse with the phase transition and transform into three-dimensional Cu-O network, resulting in the renewal of conduction system.

A pellet of stoichiometric mixtures of SrO, Cr and FeAs wrapped with tantalum foil was sintered at 900°C for 96 h. Results of x-ray diffraction measurement and Rietveld refinements show that the structure of the sample belongs to the space group of I4/mmm with the lattice constants of a = 3.9948(1) Å and c = 18.447(1) Å. Temperature dependence of the resistivity for Sr2CrO2(FeAs)2 shows semiconductor-like behavior. Additionally, the sample does not exhibit superconducting transition in measurements of resistivity and magnetization even in the low temperature down to 3 K.

The pressure-induced phase transition of bismuth telluride, Bi2Te3, has been studied by synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements at room temperature using a diamond-anvil cell (DAC) with loading pressures up to 29.8 GPa. We found a high-pressure body-centered cubic (bcc) phase in Bi2Te3 at 25.2 GPa, which is denoted as phase IV, and this phase apperars above 14.5 GPa. Upon releasing the pressure from 29.8 GPa, the diffraction pattern changes with pressure hysteresis. The original rhombohedral phase is recovered at 2.43 GPa. The bcc structure can explain the phase IV peaks. We assumed that the structural model of phase IV is analogous to a substitutional binary alloy; the Bi and Te atoms are distributed in the bcc-lattice sites with space group Im-3m. The results of Rietveld analysis based on this model agree well with both the experimental data and calculated results. Therefore, the structure of phase IV in Bi2Te3 can be explained by a solid solution with a bcc lattice in the Bi-Te (60 atomic% tellurium) binary system.
