This paper introduces a novel approach to image denoising that leverages the advantages of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). Specifically, we propose a model that combines elements of the Pix2Pix model and the Wasserstein GAN (WGAN) with Gradient Penalty (WGAN-GP). This hybrid framework seeks to capitalize on the denoising capabilities of conditional GANs, as demonstrated in the Pix2Pix model, while mitigating the need for an exhaustive search for optimal hyperparameters that could potentially ruin the stability of the learning process. In the proposed method, the GAN's generator is employed to produce denoised images, harnessing the power of a conditional GAN for noise reduction. Simultaneously, the implementation of the Lipschitz continuity constraint during updates, as featured in WGAN-GP, aids in reducing susceptibility to mode collapse. This innovative design allows the proposed model to benefit from the strong points of both Pix2Pix and WGAN-GP, generating superior denoising results while ensuring training stability. Drawing on previous work on image-to-image translation and GAN stabilization techniques, the proposed research highlights the potential of GANs as a general-purpose solution for denoising. The paper details the development and testing of this model, showcasing its effectiveness through numerical experiments. The dataset was created by adding synthetic noise to clean images. Numerical results based on real-world dataset validation underscore the efficacy of this approach in image-denoising tasks, exhibiting significant enhancements over traditional techniques. Notably, the proposed model demonstrates strong generalization capabilities, performing effectively even when trained with synthetic noise.

This paper presents a novel quaternion-based nonsingular control system for underactuated vertical-take-off and landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Position and attitude tracking is challenging regarding singularity and accuracy. Quaternion-based Adaptive Backstepping Control (QABC) is developed to tackle the underactuated issues of UAV control systems in a cascaded way. Leveraging the virtual control (auxiliary control) developed in the QABC, desired attitude components and required thrust are produced. Afterwards, we propose Quaternion-based Sliding Mode Control (QASMC) to enhance the stability and mitigate chattering issues. The sliding surface is modified to avoid singularity compared to conventional SMC. To improve the robustness of controllers, the control parameters are updated using adaptation laws. Furthermore, the asymptotic stability of translational and rotational dynamics is guaranteed by utilizing Lyapunov stability and Barbalet Lemma. Finally, the comprehensive comparison results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controllers in the presence of unknown time-varying parameter uncertainties and significant initial errors. This paper proposes a novel quaternion-based approach for tracking the translation (position and linear velocity) and rotation (attitude and angular velocity) trajectories of underactuated Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Quadrotor UAVs are challenging regarding accuracy, singularity, and uncertainties issues. Controllers designed based on unit-quaternion are singularity-free for attitude representation compared to other methods (e.g., Euler angles), which fail to represent the vehicle's attitude at multiple orientations. Quaternion-based Adaptive Backstepping Control (ABC) and Adaptive Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control (AFTSMC) are proposed to address a set of challenging problems. A quaternion-based ABC, a superior recursive approach, is proposed to generate the necessary thrust handling unknown uncertainties and UAV translation trajectory tracking. Next, a quaternion-based AFTSMC is developed to overcome parametric uncertainties, avoid singularity, and ensure fast convergence in a finite time. Moreover, the proposed AFTSMC is able to significantly minimize control signal chattering, which is the main reason for actuator failure and provide smooth and accurate rotational control input. To ensure the robustness of the proposed approach, the designed control algorithms have been validated considering unknown time-variant parametric uncertainties and significant initialization errors. The proposed techniques has been compared to state-of-the-art control technique. This paper proposes a novel Reinforcement Learning (RL) approach for sim-to-real policy transfer of Vertical Take-Off and Landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (VTOL-UAV). The proposed approach is designed for VTOL-UAV landing on offshore docking stations in maritime operations. VTOL-UAVs in maritime operations encounter limitations in their operational range, primarily stemming from constraints imposed by their battery capacity. The concept of autonomous landing on a charging platform presents an intriguing prospect for mitigating these limitations by facilitating battery charging and data transfer. However, current Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) methods exhibit drawbacks, including lengthy training times, and modest success rates. In this paper, we tackle these concerns comprehensively by decomposing the landing procedure into a sequence of more manageable but analogous tasks in terms of an approach phase and a landing phase. The proposed architecture utilizes a model-based control scheme for the approach phase, where the VTOL-UAV is approaching the offshore docking station. In the Landing phase, DRL agents were trained offline to learn the optimal policy to dock on the offshore station. The Joint North Sea Wave Project (JONSWAP) spectrum model has been employed to create a wave model for each episode, enhancing policy generalization for sim2real transfer. A set of DRL algorithms have been tested through numerical simulations including value-based agents and policy-based agents such as Deep \textit{Q} Networks (DQN) and Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) respectively. The numerical experiments show that the PPO agent can learn complicated and efficient policies to land in uncertain environments, which in turn enhances the likelihood of successful sim-to-real transfer.

This research addresses the pressing challenge of enhancing processing times and detection capabilities in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)/drone imagery for global wildfire detection, despite limited datasets. Proposing a Segmented Neural Network (SegNet) selection approach, we focus on reducing feature maps to boost both time resolution and accuracy significantly advancing processing speeds and accuracy in real-time wildfire detection. This paper contributes to increased processing speeds enabling real-time detection capabilities for wildfire, increased detection accuracy of wildfire, and improved detection capabilities of early wildfire, through proposing a new direction for image classification of amorphous objects like fire, water, smoke, etc. Employing Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for image classification, emphasizing on the reduction of irrelevant features vital for deep learning processes, especially in live feed data for fire detection. Amidst the complexity of live feed data in fire detection, our study emphasizes on image feed, highlighting the urgency to enhance real-time processing. Our proposed algorithm combats feature overload through segmentation, addressing challenges arising from diverse features like objects, colors, and textures. Notably, a delicate balance of feature map size and dataset adequacy is pivotal. Several research papers use smaller image sizes, compromising feature richness which necessitating a new approach. We illuminate the critical role of pixel density in retaining essential details, especially for early wildfire detection. By carefully selecting number of filters during training, we underscore the significance of higher pixel density for proper feature selection. The proposed SegNet approach is rigorously evaluated using real-world dataset obtained by a drone flight and compared to state-of-the-art literature.

Quantum circuits utilizing real time feedback techniques (such as active reset and mid-circuit measurement) are a powerful tool for NISQ-era quantum computing. Such techniques are crucial for implementing error correction protocols, and can reduce the resource requirements of certain quantum algorithms. Realizing these capabilities requires flexible, low-latency classical control. We have developed a custom FPGA-based processor architecture for QubiC, an open source platform for superconducting qubit control. Our architecture is distributed in nature, and consists of a bank of lightweight cores, each configured to control a small (1-3) number of signal generator channels. Each core is capable of executing parameterized control and readout pulses, as well as performing arbitrary control flow based on mid-circuit measurement results. We have also developed a modular compiler stack and domain-specific intermediate representation for programming the processor. Our representation allows users to specify circuits using both gate and pulse-level abstractions, and includes high-level control flow constructs (e.g. if-else blocks and loops). The compiler stack is designed to integrate with quantum software tools and programming languages, such as TrueQ, pyGSTi, and OpenQASM3. In this work, we will detail the design of both the processor and compiler stack, and demonstrate its capabilities with a quantum state teleportation experiment using transmon qubits at the LBNL Advanced Quantum Testbed.

The need for fully autonomous mobile robots has surged over the past decade, with the imperative of ensuring safe navigation in a dynamic setting emerging as a primary challenge impeding advancements in this domain. In this paper, a Safety Critical Model Predictive Control based on Dynamic Feedback Linearization tailored to the application of differential drive robots with two wheels is proposed to generate control signals that result in obstacle-free paths. A barrier function introduces a safety constraint to the optimization problem of the Model Predictive Control (MPC) to prevent collisions. Due to the intrinsic nonlinearities of the differential drive robots, computational complexity while implementing a Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) arises. To facilitate the real-time implementation of the optimization problem and to accommodate the underactuated nature of the robot, a combination of Linear Model Predictive Control (LMPC) and Dynamic Feedback Linearization (DFL) is proposed. The MPC problem is formulated on a linear equivalent model of the differential drive robot rendered by the DFL controller. The analysis of the closed-loop stability and recursive feasibility of the proposed control design is discussed. Numerical experiments illustrate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed control synthesis in avoiding obstacles with respect to the benchmark of using Euclidean distance constraints. It is of paramount importance to enhance medical practices, given how important it is to protect human life. Medical therapy can be accelerated by automating patient prediction using machine learning techniques. To double the efficiency of classifiers, several preprocessing strategies must be adopted for their crucial duty in this field. Feature selection (FS) is one tool that has been used frequently to modify data and enhance classification outcomes by lowering the dimensionality of datasets. Excluded features are those that have a poor correlation coefficient with the label class, that is, they have no meaningful correlation with classification and do not indicate where the instance belongs. Along with the recurring features, which show a strong association with the remainder of the features. Contrarily, the model being produced during training is harmed, and the classifier is misled by their presence. This causes overfitting and increases algorithm complexity and processing time. These are used in exploration to allow solutions to be found more thoroughly and in relation to a chosen solution than at random. TLSO, PLSO, and LLSO stand for Tournament Logarithmic Snake Optimizer, Proportional Logarithmic Snake Optimizer, and Linear Order Logarithmic Snake Optimizer, respectively. A number of 22 reference medical datasets were used in experiments. The findings indicate that, among 86 % of the datasets, TLSO attained the best accuracy, and among 82 % of the datasets, the best feature reduction. In terms of the standard deviation, the TLSO also attained noteworthy reliability and stability. On the basis of running duration, it is, nonetheless, quite effective.

Sea Horse Optimizer (SHO) is a noteworthy metaheuristic algorithm that emulates various intelligent behaviors exhibited by sea horses, encompassing feeding patterns, male reproductive strategies, and intricate movement patterns. To mimic the nuanced locomotion of sea horses, SHO integrates the logarithmic helical equation and Levy flight, effectively incorporating both random movements with substantial step sizes and refined local exploitation. Additionally, the utilization of Brownian motion facilitates a more comprehensive exploration of the search space. This study introduces a robust and high-performance variant of the SHO algorithm named mSHO. The enhancement primarily focuses on bolstering SHO's exploitation capabilities by replacing its original method with an innovative local search strategy encompassing three distinct steps: a neighborhood-based local search, a global non-neighbor-based search, and a method involving circumnavigation of the existing search region. These techniques improve mSHO algorithm's search capabilities, allowing it to navigate the search space and converge toward optimal solutions efficiently. The comprehensive results distinctly establish the supremacy and efficiency of the mSHO method as an exemplary tool for tackling an array of optimization quandaries. This paper proposes a nonlinear stochastic complementary filter design for inertial navigation that takes advantage of a fusion of Ultra-wideband (UWB) and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) technology ensuring semi-global uniform ultimate boundedness (SGUUB) of the closed loop error signals in mean square. The proposed filter estimates the vehicle's orientation, position, linear velocity, and noise covariance. The filter is designed to mimic the nonlinear navigation motion kinematics and is posed on a matrix Lie Group, the extended form of the Special Euclidean Group $\mathbb{SE}_{2}\left(3\right)$. The Lie Group based structure of the proposed filter provides unique and global representation avoiding singularity (a common shortcoming of Euler angles) as well as non-uniqueness (a common limitation of unit-quaternion). Unlike Kalman-type filters, the proposed filter successfully addresses IMU measurement noise considering unknown upper-bounded covariance. Although the navigation estimator is proposed in a continuous form, the discrete version is also presented. Moreover, the unit-quaternion implementation has been provided in the Appendix. This paper proposes a novel observer-based controller for Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed to directly receive measurements from a Vision-Aided Inertial Navigation System (VA-INS) and produce the required thrust and rotational torque inputs. The VA-INS is composed of a vision unit (monocular or stereo camera) and a typical low-cost 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) equipped with an accelerometer and a gyroscope. A major benefit of this approach is its applicability for environments where the Global Positioning System (GPS) is inaccessible. The proposed VTOL-UAV observer utilizes IMU and feature measurements to accurately estimate attitude (orientation), gyroscope bias, position, and linear velocity. Ability to use VA-INS measurements directly makes the proposed observer design more computationally efficient as it obviates the need for attitude and position reconstruction. Once the motion components are estimated, the observer-based controller is used to control the VTOL-UAV attitude, angular velocity, position, and linear velocity guiding the vehicle along the desired trajectory in six degrees of freedom (6 DoF). The closed-loop estimation and the control errors of the observer-based controller are proven to be exponentially stable starting from almost any initial condition. This paper investigates the estimation and tracking control in application to a Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in six degrees of freedom (6 DoF). A full state observer for the estimation of VTOL-UAV motion parameters (attitude, angular velocity, position, and linear velocity) is proposed on the Lie Group of $\mathbb{SE}_{2}\left(3\right)\times\mathbb{R}^{3}$ $=\mathbb{SO}\left(3\right)\times\mathbb{R}^{9}$ with almost globally exponentially stable closed loop error signals. Thereafter, a full state observer-based controller for the VTOL-UAV motion parameters is proposed on the Lie Group with a guaranteed almost global exponential stability. The proposed approach produces good results without the need for angular and linear velocity measurements (without a gyroscope and GPS signals) utilizing only a set of known landmarks obtained by a vision-aided unit (monocular or stereo camera). Network mobility basic support (NEMO BS) protocol (RFC 3963) is an extension of Mobile IPv6. The NEMO BS embraced by the IETF working group to permit any node in the portable network to be accessible to the Internet despite the fact the network itself is roaming. This protocol likewise Mobile IPv6 does not deliver any kind of Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees to its clients. It can barely offer the same level of services (i.e. Best-Effort) to all the users without obligation to the needs of applications. These propositions a challenge to real-time applications that demand a precise level of QoS pledge. The Differentiated Services have recently come to be the most widely used QoS support technology in IP networks due to its relative simplicity and scalability benefits. This paper proposes a new scheme to provide QoS to mobile network nodes within the NEMO context. The proposed scheme intends to reduce handover latency for the users of MNN as well as alleviates packet losses. The feasibility of the proposed enhancement is assessed by measuring its performance against the native NEMO BS standard protocol using the NS-2 simulator. The obtained results in the simulation study have demonstrated that the proposed scheme outperforms the standard NEMO BS protocol.

Long-term evolution (LTE) and LTE-advance (LTE-A) are widely used efficient network technologies serving billions of users, since they are featured with high spectrum efficiency, less latency, and higher bandwidth. Despite remarkable advantages offered by these technologies, signaling overhead remains a major issue in accessing the network. In particular, the load of signaling is mainly attributed to location management. This paper proposes an efficient approach for minimizing the total signaling overhead of location management in LTE networks using multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO). Tracking area update (TAU) and paging are considered to be the main elements of the signaling overhead of optimal location management in LTE. In addition, the total inter-list handover contributes significantly to the total signaling overhead. However, the total signaling cost of TAU and paging is adversely related to the total inter-list handover. Two cost functions should be minimized, the first is the total signaling cost of TAU and paging and the second is the total signaling overhead. The trade-off between these two objectives can be circumvented by MOPSO, which alleviates the total signaling overhead. A set of non-dominated solutions on the Pareto-optimal front is defined and the best compromise solution. The proposed algorithm results feasible compromise solution, minimizing the signaling overhead and the consumption of the power battery of a user. The efficacy and the robustness of the proposed algorithm have been proven using large scale environment problem illustrative example. The location management in LTE networks using MOPSO best compromise solution has been compared to a mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) algorithm. Deploying sensor nodes randomly most of the time generates initial communication hole even in highly dense networks. These communication holes cannot be totally eliminated even when the deployment is done in a structured manner. In either case, the resulting inter-node distances may degrade the performance of the network. This paper proposes an enhanced deployment algorithm based on Artificial Bees Colony (ABC). The ABC-based deployment is guaranteed to extend the lifetime by optimizing the network parameters and constraining the total number of deployed relays. Simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy under different cases of problem complexity. Results show that the proposed approach improves the network lifetime considerably when compared to solutions reported in the literature such as Shortest Path 3-D grid Deployment (SP3D) algorithm.

Random deployment of sensor nodes is susceptible to initial communication hole, even when the network is densely populated. However, eliminating holes using structural deployment poses its difficulties. In either case, the resulting coverage holes can degrade overall network performance and lifetime. Many solutions utilizing Relay Nodes (RNs) have been proposed to alleviate this problem. In this regard, one of the recent solutions proposed using Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) to deploy RNs. This paper proposes RN deployment using two other evolutionary techniques - Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) and Differential Evolution (DE) and compares them with existing solution that uses ABC. These popular optimization tools are deployed to optimize the positions of relay nodes for lifetime maximization. Proposed algorithms guarantee satisfactory RNs utilization while maintaining desired connectivity level. It is shown that DE-based deployment improves the network lifetime better than other optimization heuristics considered.

Abstract:
A new grayscale image encryption algorithm based on $(k,n)$ threshold secret sharing is proposed. The scheme allows a secret image to be transformed into $n$ shares, where any $k \le n$ shares can be used to reconstruct the secret image, while the knowledge of $k-1$ or fewer shares leaves no sufficient information about the secret image and it becomes hard to decrypt the transmitted image. In the proposed scheme, the pixels of the secret image are first permuted and then encrypted by using quadratic residues. In the final stage, the encrypted image is shared into n shadow images using polynomials of Shamir scheme. The proposed scheme is provably secure and the experimental results shows that the scheme performs well while maintaining high levels of quality in the reconstructed image.
