Motivated by the existence of complex spectrum in $T\bar T$-deformed CFTs, in this paper we revisit the broadly studied topic of (holographic) entanglement entropy in the deformed theory to investigate its complex behaviour. As a concrete example, we show that in case of a 1+1 dimensional holographic CFT at finite temperature $β^{-1}$ and chemical potential $Ω$, the holographic entanglement entropy in the deformed theory remains to be real only within the range $-\frac{β^2}{8π^2}\frac{(1-Ω^2)^2}{Ω^2}< μ< \frac{β^2}{8π^2}(1-Ω^2) $ of the deformation parameter. While the upper bound overlaps with the familiar Hagedorn bound in the deformed theory, the novel lower bound on the negative values of the deformation parameter does not show up in thermodynamic quantities. However, from a holographic perspective we show that this intriguing lower bound is related to a spacelike to null transition of the associated Ryu-Takayanagi surface in the deformed geometry. We also investigate the Quantum Null Energy Condition in the deformed theory, within its regime of validity.

In this study, for the first time, we analyse the quasinormal modes of black holes occurring within the framework of degenerate gravity. We investigate the properties of the asymptotically flat spacetimes introduced recently in [JCAP 02(2022)02] that satisfy degenerate Einstein Gauss-Bonnet(dEGB) action and belong to a much larger class of solutions which include cosmological constant. This solution has two distinct branches akin to Einstein Gauss-Bonnet(EBG) gravity. However, unlike the EBG solutions, both the branches of dEGB are well-defined asymptotically. The negative branches from both theories can be identified for the asymptotically flat case. We observe black holes for specific ranges of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling parameter and perform a stability analysis by calculating the quasinormal modes (QNMs) under scalar wave propagation. Finally, the ringdown spectrums of our black holes are compared with their GR counterparts.

We consider equal-mass periodic Toda oscillators with balanced loss-gain for two and three particles. The two-particle system is integrable with the Hamiltonian and the genralized total momentum being two integrals of motion. The model in its full generality is not amenable to exact analytic solutions, and investigated numerically showing existence of regular periodic solutions. The three-particle equal-mass periodic Toda lattice is considered in presence of balanced loss-gain and velocity mediated coupling. The system is Hamiltonian for the special case whenever the strength of the velocity-mediated coupling is half of the strength of the loss-gain. The model admits regular and chaotic solutions for vanishing as well as non-vanishing velocity-mediated coupling, including the Hamiltonian system. The chaos is induced due to the presence of balanced loss-gain, since undriven equal-mass Toda lattice is non-chaotic. The chaotic behaviour is studied in detail for the Hamiltonian system as well as for the system with vanishing velocity mediated coupling by using time series, Poincaré sections, auto-correlation function, power spectra, Lyapunov exponent and bifurcation diagram.

Quantum null energy condition (QNEC) is usually stated as a bound on the expectation value of null components of the stress energy tensor at a point in terms of second null shape variations of the entanglement entropy at the same point. It can be recast as the statement that the sign of the second null shape variation of the relative entropy of any state with respect to the vacuum is positive. Using instead a Renyi generalization of relative entropy, called sandwiched Renyi divergence (SRD), leads to what is termed the Renyi QNEC: the second null shape variation of SRD of any state with respect to the vacuum is positive. In this work, we prove the Renyi QNEC for free and superrenormalizable fermionic quantum field theories in spacetime dimensions greater than 2 using null quantization, for the case where the Renyi parameter $n>1$. We end with comments on multiple possible generalizations.

We extend the method of Simpson and Visser (SV) of regularising a black hole spacetime, to cases where the initial metric represents a globally naked singularity. We choose two particular geometries, the Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) metric representing the solution of an Einstein-scalar field system, and the Joshi-Malafarina-Narayan (JMN) metric that represents the asymptotic equilibrium configuration of a collapsing star supported by tangential pressures as the starting configuration. We illustrate several novel features for the modified versions of the JNW and JMN spacetimes. In particular, we show that, depending on the values of the parameters involved the modified JNW metric may represents either a two way traversable wormhole or it may retain the original naked singularity. On the other hand, the SV modified JMN geometry is always a wormhole. Particle motion and observational aspects of these new geometries are investigated and are shown to posses interesting features. We also study the quasinormal modes of different branches of the regularised spacetime and explore their stability properties.

Bardeen's 1968 idea of a regular black hole spacetime was revived by Hayward in 2006 through the construction of a new example of such a geometry. Later it was realised by Neves and Saa, that a wider, two-parameter class exists, with Bardeen and Hayward spacetimes as special cases. In this article, we revisit and generalise the Hayward spacetime by applying the Damour-Solodukhin (DS) prescription. Recalling the DS suggestion of a deformed Schwarzschild spacetime where $g_{tt} = -\left (1-\frac{2M_1}{r}\right )$, $g_{rr} = \left (1-\frac{2M_2}{r}\right )^{-1}$ and $M_1\neq M_2$, we propose a similar deformation of the Hayward geometry. The $g_{tt}$ and $g_{rr}$ in the original Hayward line element remain functionally the same, {\em albeit} mutations introduced via differently valued metric parameters, following the DS idea. This results in a plethora of spacetime geometries, known as well as new, and including singular black holes, wormholes or regular black holes. We first study the geometric features and matter content of each of such spacetimes in some detail. Subsequently, we find the scalar quasinormal modes corresponding to scalar wave propagation in these geometries. We investigate how the real and imaginary parts of the quasinormal modes depend on the values and ranges of the metric parameters used to classify the geometries. Finally, we argue how our results on this family of spacetimes suggest their utility as black hole mimickers.

Investigating principles for storage of quantum information at finite temperature with minimal need for active error correction is an active area of research. We bear upon this question in two-dimensional holographic conformal field theories via the quantum null energy condition (QNEC) that we have shown earlier to implement the restrictions imposed by quantum thermodynamics on such many-body systems. We study an explicit encoding of a logical qubit into two similar chirally propagating excitations of finite von-Neumann entropy on a finite temperature background whose erasure can be implemented by an appropriate inhomogeneous and instantaneous energy-momentum inflow from an infinite energy memoryless bath due to which the system transits to a thermal state. Holographically, these fast erasure processes can be depicted by generalized AdS-Vaidya geometries described previously in which no assumption of specific form of bulk matter is needed. We show that the quantum null energy condition gives analytic results for the minimal finite temperature needed for the deletion which is larger than the initial background temperature in consistency with Landauer's principle. In particular, we find a simple expression for the minimum final temperature needed for the erasure of a large number of encoding qubits. We also find that if the encoding qubits are localized over an interval shorter than a specific localization length, then the fast erasure process is impossible, and furthermore this localization length is the largest for an optimal amount of encoding qubits determined by the central charge. We estimate the optimal encoding qubits for realistic protection against fast erasure. We discuss possible generalizations of our study for novel constructions of fault-tolerant quantum gates operating at finite temperature.

In recent years, various aspects of theoretical models with long range interactions have attracted attention, ranging from out-of-time-ordered correlators to entanglement. In the present paper, entanglement properties of a simple non-local model with long-range interactions in the form of a fractional Laplacian is investigated in both static and a quantum quench scenario. Logarithmic negativity, which is a measure for entanglement in mixed states is calculated numerically. In the static case, it is shown that the presence of long-range interaction ensures that logarithmic negativity decays much slower with distance compared to short-range models. For a sudden quantum quench, the temporal evolution of the logarithmic negativity reveals that, in contrast to short-range models, logarithmic negativity exhibits no revivals for long-range interactions for the time intervals considered. To further support this result, a simpler measure of entanglement, namely the entanglement entropy is also studied for this class of models.

We study the behavior of a specific Lorentzian wormhole family under gravitational perturbations. In earlier work [EPJC 80, 850 (2020)], we have proved the stability of a test scalar field in the background of the wormhole family, where the effective potential was that of a double barrier. Continuing with the stability analysis, here we focus on the more physically relevant scenario, that of axial gravitational perturbations. Interestingly, we find that the effective potential is a triple barrier for lower angular momentum modes. This raises important questions on the ringdown of the corresponding wormhole geometry as well as the gravitational wave echo profile that we try to answer through our work. We study in detail how the geometry of each member wormhole affects the quasinormal modes, the time evolution of the signal as well as echoes which are, in general, very feeble in comparison to the main signal. Different `cleaning' techniques have been used to obtain the echo profile in the time evolution of the signal. Lastly, we dwell on the possibility of our wormhole family as a candidate black hole mimicker, as long as its stability is proven under all kinds of perturbations. We briefly present a comparison of the ringdown characteristics of these wormholes with that of a black hole, in support of this speculation.

The quantum null energy condition (QNEC) is a lower bound on the energy-momentum tensor in terms of the variation of the entanglement entropy of a sub-region along a null direction. To gain insights into quantum thermodynamics of many-body systems, we study if the QNEC restricts irreversible entropy production in quenches driven by energy-momentum inflow from an infinite memoryless bath in two-dimensional holographic theories. We find that an increase in both entropy and temperature, as implied by the Clausius inequality of classical thermodynamics, are necessary but not sufficient to not violate QNEC in quenches leading to transitions between thermal states with momentum which are dual to Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli geometries. For an arbitrary initial state, we can determine the lower and upper bounds on the increase of entropy (temperature) for a fixed increase in temperature (entropy). Our results provide explicit instances of quantum lower and upper bounds on irreversible entropy production whose existence has been established in literature. We also find monotonic behavior of the non-saturation of the QNEC with time after a quench, and analytically determine their asymptotic values. Our study shows that the entanglement entropy of an interval of length $l$ always thermalizes in time $l/2$ with an exponent $3/2$. Furthermore, we determine the coefficient of initial quadratic growth of entanglement analytically for any $l$, and show that the slope of the asymptotic ballistic growth of entanglement for a semi-infinite interval is twice the difference of the entropy densities of the final and initial states. We determine explicit upper and lower bounds on these rates of growth of entanglement.

The equation governing perturbations about this solitary wave has an effective potential which is a simple harmonic well over a region, and a constant beyond. This feature allows us to ensure the stability of the solitary wave through the existence of bound states in the well, which can be found by semi-analytical methods. A further check on stability is performed through our search for quasi-normal modes (QNM) which are defined for purely outgoing boundary conditions. The time-domain profiles of the perturbations and the parametric variation of the QNM values are presented and discussed in some detail. Expectedly, a damped oscillatory temporal behaviour (ringdown) of the fluctuations is clearly seen through our analysis of the quasi-normal modes.

We revisit a family of ultra-static Lorentzian wormholes which includes Ellis-Bronnikov spacetime as a special case. We first show how the required total matter stress energy (which violates the local energy conditions) may be split into a part due to a phantom scalar and another extra piece (which vanishes for Ellis--Bronnikov) satisfying the Averaged Null Energy Condition (ANEC) along radial null geodesics. Thereafter,we examine the effective potential for scalar wave propagation in a general setting. Conditions on the metric function, for which the effective potential may have double barrier features are written down and illustrated (using this class of wormholes). Subsequently, using numerous methods, we obtain the scalar quasinormal modes (QNMs). We note the behaviour of the QNMs as a function of $n$ (the metric parameter) and $b_0$ (the wormhole throat radius). Thus, the shapes and sizes of the wormholes, governed by the metric parameter $n$ and the throat radius $b_0$ are linked to the variation and the values of the QNMs. Finally, we demonstrate how, for large $n$, the time domain profiles exhibit, expectedly, the occurence of echoes. In summary, our results suggest that this family of wormholes may indeed be used as a template for further studies on the gravitational wave physics of exotic compact objects.

Quasi-normal modes (QNMs) of the massless scalar wave in $1+1$ dimensions are obtained for a symmetric, finite, triangular barrier potential. This problem is exactly solvable, with Airy functions involved in the solutions. Before obtaining the QNMs, we demonstrate how such a triangular barrier may arise in the context of scalar wave propagation in a tailor-made wormhole geometry. Thereafter, the Ferrari-Mashhoon idea is used to show how bound states in a well potential may be used to find the QNMs in a corresponding barrier potential. The bound state condition in the exactly solvable triangular well and the transformed condition for finding the QNMs are written down. Real bound state energies and complex QNMs are found by solving the respective transcendental equations. Numerical integration of the wave equation yields the time domain profiles for scalar waves propagating in this wormhole geometry which illustrate the quasinormal ringing. Estimates relating the size of the wormhole throat (in units of solar mass) with the QNM frequencies are stated and discussed. Finally, we show how the effective potential and the QNMs for scalar perturbations of the Ellis--Bronnikov wormhole spacetime can be reasonably well--approximated using a properly parametrised triangular barrier.

In this paper we present exact solutions of the Dirac equation on the non-commutative plane in the presence of crossed electric and magnetic fields. In the standard commutative plane such a system is known to exhibit contraction of Landau levels when the electric field approaches a critical value. In the present case we find exact solutions in terms of the non-commutative parameters $η$ (momentum non-commutativity) and $θ$ (coordinate non-commutativity) and provide an explicit expression for the Landau levels. We show that non-commutativity preserves the collapse of the spectrum. We provide a dual description of the system: (i) one in which at a given electric field the magnetic field is varied and the other (ii) in which at a given magnetic field the electric field is varied. In the former case we find that momentum non-commutativity ($η$) splits the critical magnetic field into two critical fields while coordinates non-commutativity ($θ$) gives rise to two additional critical points not at all present in the commutative scenario.

The Riemann-Hilbert approach to studying solutions of supergravity theories allows us to associate spacetime independent monodromy matrices (matrices in the Geroch group) with solutions that effectively only depend on two spacetime coordinates. This offers insights into symmetries of supergravity theories, and in the classification of their solutions. In this paper, we initiate a systematic study of monodromy matrices for multi-center solutions of five-dimensional U(1)$^3$ supergravity. We obtain monodromy matrices for a class of collinear Bena-Warner bubbling geometries. We show that for this class of solutions, monodromy matrices in the vector representation of SO(4,4) have only simple poles with residues of rank two and nilpotency degree two. These properties strongly suggest that an inverse scattering construction along the lines of [arXiv:1311.7018 [hep-th]] can be given for this class of solutions, though it is not attempted in this work. Along the way, we clarify a technical point in the existing literature: we show that the so-called "spectral flow transformations" of Bena, Bobev, and Warner are precisely a class of Harrison transformations when restricted to the situation of two commuting Killing symmetries in five-dimensions.

The corresponding dual state in the boundary $CFT$ is the vacuum state around which the linear perturbation is taken. In this paper we revisit this question, in the context of $ {AdS}_3/{CFT}_2 $, with the state of the boundary ${CFT}_2$ as a thermal state. The corresponding dual geometry is a planar BTZ black hole. By considering the linearized perturbation around this black brane we show that Einstein's equation follows from the first law of entanglement. The modular Hamiltonian in a thermal state of the ${CFT}_2$ that we have used has been recently found in arXiv:1608.01283 [cond-mat.stat-mech].

We investigate subregion holographic complexity in the context of renormalization group flow geometries. We use both the Poincaŕe slicing and the Janus ansatz as holographic duals to renormalization group flows in the boundary conformal field theory. In the former metric, subregion complexity is computed for a disc and a strip shaped entangling region. For the disc shaped region, consistent emergence of length scales for flow to the deep infra-red is established. For strip shaped regions, we find that complexity cannot locate holographic phase transitions in a sharp domain wall scenario. For smooth domain walls, we find that the complexity might be an indicator of such phase transitions, and give numerical evidence that its derivative changes sign across a transition. Finally, the complexity is computed numerically using the Janus ansatz.

In this paper, we compute two-point function of a probe field in the geodesic approximation in such an oscillating shell background. We confirm that the two-point function exhibits an oscillatory behaviour following the motion of the shell. We show that similar oscillatory dynamics is possible when the perfect fluid on the shell has a polytropic equation of state. Moreover, we show that certain ball like configurations in AdS also exhibit oscillatory motion and comment on how such a solution can be smoothly matched to an appropriate exterior solution. We also demonstrate that the weak energy condition is satisfied for these oscillatory configurations.

The volume inside a Ryu-Takayanagi surface has been conjectured to be related to the complexity of subregions of the boundary field theory. Here, we study the behaviour of this volume analytically, when the entangling surface has a strip geometry. We perform systematic expansions in the low and high temperature regimes for AdS-Schwarzschild and RN-AdS black holes. In the latter regime, we point out spurious divergences that might occur due to the limitations of a near horizon expansion. A similar analysis is performed for extremal black holes, and at large charge, we find that there might be some new features of the volume as compared to the area. Finally, we numerically study a four dimensional RN-AdS black hole in global AdS, the entangling surface being a sphere. We find that the holographic complexity captures essentially the same information as the entanglement entropy, as far as phase transitions are concerned.

We perform a detailed analysis of holographic entanglement Rényi entropy in some modified theories of gravity with four dimensional conformal field theory duals. First, we construct perturbative black hole solutions in a recently proposed model of Einsteinian cubic gravity in five dimensions, and compute the Rényi entropy as well as the scaling dimension of the twist operators in the dual field theory. Consistency of these results are verified from the AdS/CFT correspondence, via a corresponding computation of the Weyl anomaly on the gravity side. Similar analyses are then carried out for three other examples of modified gravity in five dimensions that include a chemical potential, namely Born-Infeld gravity, charged quasi-topological gravity and a class of Weyl corrected gravity theories with a gauge field, with the last example being treated perturbatively. Some interesting bounds in the dual conformal field theory parameters in quasi-topological gravity are pointed out. We also provide arguments on the validity of our perturbative analysis, whenever applicable.

First, we discuss global properties of the parameter manifold for two level systems exemplified by i) Rabi oscillations and ii) quenching dynamics of the XY spin chain in a transverse magnetic field, when driven across anisotropic criticality. Next, we comment upon the nature of the geometric phase from classical holonomy analyses of such parameter manifolds. In the context of the transverse XY model in the thermodynamic limit, our results are in contradiction to those in the existing literature, and we argue why the issue deserves a more careful analysis. In the context of extended phase space thermodynamics and the AdS-CFT correspondence, we consider the chemical potential ($μ$) dual to the number of colours ($N$) of the boundary gauge theory, in the grand canonical ensemble. By appropriately defining $μ$ via densities of thermodynamic quantities, we show that it changes sign precisely at the Hawking-Page transition for AdS-Schwarzschild and RN-AdS black holes in five dimensions, signalling the onset of quantum effects at the transition point. Such behaviour is absent for non-rotating black holes in four dimensions. For Kerr-AdS black holes in four and five dimensions, our analysis points to the fact that $μ$ can change sign in the stable black hole region, i.e above the Hawking-Page transition temperature, for a range of angular frequencies. We also analyse AdS black holes in five dimensional Gauss-Bonnet gravity, and find similar features for $μ$ as in the Kerr-AdS case.

The end stage of a gravitational collapse process can generically result in a black hole or a naked singularity. Here we undertake a comparative analysis of the nature of tidal forces in these backgrounds. The effect of such forces is generically exemplified by the Roche limit, which predicts the distance within which a celestial object disintegrates due to the tidal effects of a second more massive object. In this paper, using Fermi normal coordinates, we numerically compute the Roche limit for a class of non-rotating naked singularity backgrounds, and compare them with known results for Schwarzschild black holes. Our analysis indicates that there might be substantially large deviations in the magnitudes of tidal forces in naked singularity backgrounds, compared to the black hole cases. If observationally established, these can prove to be an effective indicator of the nature of the singularity at a galactic centre.

The change in chirality associated with the magnitude of the magnetic field is examined in detail for both critical points. The phase transitions are described in terms of the magnetisation of the system. Possible applications to the physics of silicene and graphene are briefly discussed.

We establish a universal microscopic characterization of such phase transitions via the equality of correlation lengths $ξ$ in coexisting phases, where $ξ$ is related to the scalar curvature of the equilibrium thermodynamic state space. The 1-D Ising model, and the mean-field Curie-Weiss model are discussed, and we show that information geometry correctly describes the phase behavior for the latter. The Widom lines for these systems are also established. We further study a simple model for the thermodynamics of liquid-liquid phase co-existence, and show that our method provides a simple and direct way to obtain its phase behavior and the locations of the Widom lines. The present article discusses magnetic confinement of the Dirac excitations in graphene in presence of inhomogeneous magnetic fields. In the first case a magnetic field directed along the z axis whose magnitude is proportional to $1/r$ is chosen. In the next case we choose a more realistic magnetic field which does not blow up at the origin and gradually fades away from the origin. The magnetic fields chosen do not have any finite/infinite discontinuity for finite values of the radial coordinate. The novelty of the two magnetic fields is related to the equations which are used to find the excited spectra of the excitations. It turns out that the bound state solutions of the two-dimensional hydrogen atom problem are related to the spectra of graphene excitations in presence of the $1/r$ (inverse-radial) magnetic field. For the other magnetic field profile one can use the knowledge of the bound state spectrum of a two-dimensional cut-off Coulomb potential to dictate the excitation spectra of the states of graphene. The spectrum of the graphene excitations in presence of the inverse-radial magnetic field can be exactly solved while the other case cannot be. In the later case we give the localized solutions of the zero-energy states in graphene.

It provides a panoramic view of the main theoretical developments in high energy physics since its inception more than half a century ago, a period in which experiments have spanned an enormous range of energies, theories have been developed leading up to the Standard Model, and proposals -- including the radical paradigm of String Theory -- have been made to go beyond the Standard Model. The list of references provided here is not intended to properly credit all original work but rather to supply the reader with a few pointers to the literature, specifically highlighting work done by Indian authors.

Non-Hermitian quantum mechanics in non-commutative space
Authors:

Abstract:
We study non Hermitian quantum systems in noncommutative space as well as a \cal{PT}-symmetric deformation of this space. Specifically, a \mathcal{PT}-symmetric harmonic oscillator together with iC(x_1+x_2) interaction is discussed in this space and solutions are obtained. It is shown that in the \cal{PT} deformed noncommutative space the Hamiltonian may or may not possess real eigenvalues depen…

It is shown that in the \cal{PT} deformed noncommutative space the Hamiltonian may or may not possess real eigenvalues depending on the choice of the noncommutative parameters. However, it is shown that in standard noncommutative space, the iC(x_1+x_2) interaction generates only real eigenvalues despite the fact that the Hamiltonian is not \mathcal{PT}-symmetric. A complex interacting anisotropic oscillator system has also been discussed.

Noncommutative oscillator, symmetry and Landau problem
Authors:
Pulak Ranjan Giri,
P. Roy
Abstract:
Isotropic oscillator on a plane is discussed where both the coordinate and momentum space are considered to be noncommutative. We also discuss the symmetry properties of the oscillator for three separate cases when both the noncommutative parameters Θand \barΘ satisfy specific relations. We compare the Landau problem with the isotropic oscillator on noncommutative space and obtain a relation bet…

We compare the Landau problem with the isotropic oscillator on noncommutative space and obtain a relation between the two noncommutative parameters with the magnetic field of the Landau problem.
