This study aims to develop second-order relativistic viscous magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) derived from kinetic theory within an extended relaxation time approximation (momentum/energy dependent) for the collision kernel. The investigation involves a detailed examination of shear stress tensor evolution equations and associated transport coefficients. The Boltzmann equation is solved using a Chapman-Enskog-like gradient expansion for a charge-conserved conformal system, incorporating a momentum-dependent relaxation time. The derived relativistic non-resistive, viscous second-order MHD equations for the shear stress tensor reveal significant modifications in the coupling with dissipative charge current and magnetic field due to the momentum dependence of the relaxation time. By utilizing a power law parametrization to quantify the momentum dependence of the relaxation time, the anisotropic magnetic field-dependent shear coefficients in the Navier-Stokes limit have been investigated. The resulting viscous coefficients are seen to be sensitive to the momentum dependence of the relaxation time.

This article elucidates the pivotal role of b-mesons and bottomonium states in exploring the existence and properties of hot QCD matter (commonly known as quark-gluon-plasma (QGP) produced within the crucible heavy-ion collision experiments). Owing to the complex and confounding nature of strong interaction force the direct detection of probing the hot QCD matter is not feasible. In light of this, investigating the dynamics of b-quarks and anti-quarks within the hot QCD medium emerges as an invaluable indirect probe. The impact of b-quarks and the mesons spans a spectrum of interesting domains regarding the physics of QCD at finite temperature, encompassing the QCD phase transition, color screening, quarkonia dissociation, heavy quark energy loss and collective flow, anisotropic aspects, and strongly coupled nature of hot QCD medium. These aspects underscore the indispensable nature of B-mesons in the quest to create and explore the complex nature of strong interaction force through the QGP/hot QCD matter. In this context, we mainly focus on works related to transport studies of b-mesons in hot QCD medium, lattice QCD, and effective field theory studies on bottomonium states, and finally, open quantum system frameworks to quarkonia to explore the properties of hot QCD medium in relativistic heavy-ion collision experiments.

In both scenarios, five complex modes emerge, reliant on the wave vector ($k$), with electrical conductivity exerting significant influence. The impact of the modes on the energy loss of heavy quarks in the hot QCD medium with a background electromagnetic field has been studied by obtaining the induced electric field in terms of the polarization tensor while invoking Wong's equations. The findings are seen to be consistent with analogous approaches, reinforcing the significance of the results.

The impact of momentum anisotropy on the heavy quarks (HQs) dynamics has been investigated in a hot QCD medium while considering both collisional and radiative processes within the ambit of the Fokker-Planck approach. The relative orientation of the HQs motion (momentum vector) with respect to the direction of anisotropy is responsible for the character of transport coefficients. Therefore, the drag and diffusion coefficients of the HQs are decomposed, respectively, into two and four components by considering a general tensor basis. Each component of the drag and diffusion coefficient of the HQs has been analyzed in detail. It is observed that the anisotropy has a significant impact on the transport coefficients of the HQ for both the collisional and the radiational processes. The nuclear suppression factor, $R_{AA}$, has been computed considering the anisotropic medium. It is observed that the momentum anisotropy affects the $R_{AA}$ of the HQs significantly in both elastic and inelastic cases.

Heavy Quarks (HQs) serve as excellent probes to understand various characteristics of deconfined hot QCD medium, comprising light quarks and gluons, created in the Heavy Ion Collisions (HICs). Strong magnetic fields in non-central HICs may significantly affect HQ dynamics in this medium. Exploring the impact of the magnetic field on the perturbative and non-perturbative transport coefficients of HQ is an intriguing endeavor. This necessitates the development of a comprehensive theoretical framework accommodating the non-perturbative Quantum Chromo Dynamics(npQCD) description alongside perturbative QCD(pQCD). The present work provides such a formulation in which Quarkonium potential in the hot and magnetic QCD medium is implemented as the effective gluon propagator to calculate the rate of elastic scattering between HQ and the light partons inside a medium of hot Quark Gluon Plasma(QGP) in the presence of a strong but uniform magnetic field. Diffusion coefficients of a charm quark have been computed for a short-range Yukawa potential ( pQCD) as well as a long-range confining/non-perturbative potential (npQCD) for two cases in which the velocity of the charm quark is parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic field respectively. Non-perturbative contribution is seen to dominate over the perturbative one in the regime of low temperatures and low to intermediate momenta of charm quark. As the momentum of charm quark as well as the temperature of the medium increase pQCD starts to gain on the npQCD contribution, ultimately prevailing at higher temperatures and charm momenta.

The discovery and characterization of hot and dense QCD matter, known as Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP), remains the most international collaborative effort and synergy between theorists and experimentalists in modern nuclear physics to date. The experimentalists around the world not only collect an unprecedented amount of data in heavy-ion collisions, at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in New York, USA, and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland but also analyze these data to unravel the mystery of this new phase of matter that filled a few microseconds old universe, just after the Big Bang. In the meantime, advancements in theoretical works and computing capability extend our wisdom about the hot-dense QCD matter and its dynamics through mathematical equations. The exchange of ideas between experimentalists and theoreticians is crucial for the progress of our knowledge. The motivation of this first conference named "HOT QCD Matter 2022" is to bring the community together to have a discourse on this topic. In this article, there are 36 sections discussing various topics in the field of relativistic heavy-ion collisions and related phenomena that cover a snapshot of the current experimental observations and theoretical progress. This article begins with the theoretical overview of relativistic spin-hydrodynamics in the presence of the external magnetic field, followed by the Lattice QCD results on heavy quarks in QGP, and finally, it ends with an overview of experiment results.

The decay time of the magnetic field in the medium seems to have a strong dependence on thermal conductivity. The applicability of the Wiedemann-Franz law for the QCD medium has been investigated in the presence of time-varying external electromagnetic fields. The phenomenological significance of thermal transport in heavy-ion collision experiments has also been investigated by relating the thermal conductivity to the elliptic flow through the Knudsen number. The investigations are extended to study the thermoelectric behavior of hot QCD medium and its dependence on the magnetic field. Heavy quark dynamics in an anisotropic QCD medium have been analyzed within the Fokker-Planck approach. Heavy quark drag force and momentum diffusion tensor have been decomposed by employing a general tensor basis for an anisotropic medium. Depending upon the relative orientation of the direction of the momentum anisotropy of the medium and heavy quark motion, two drag and four diffusion coefficients have been estimated in the anisotropic QCD medium. The relative significance of different components of drag and momentum diffusion coefficients has been explored. The dependence of the angle between the anisotropic vector and heavy quark motion to the drag and diffusion coefficients has also been studied. Further, the energy loss of heavy quarks due to the elastic collisional process in an anisotropic medium has been studied. It is seen that the anisotropic contributions to heavy quark transport coefficients and its collisional energy loss have a strong dependence on the direction and strength of momentum anisotropy in the QCD medium.

The impact of momentum anisotropy on the heavy quark transport coefficients due to collisional and radiative processes in the QCD medium has been studied within the ambit of kinetic theory. Anisotropic aspects (momentum) are incorporated into the heavy quark dynamics through the non-equilibrium momentum distribution function of quarks, antiquarks, and gluons. These non-equilibrium distribution functions that encode the physics of momentum anisotropy and turbulent chromo-fields have been obtained by solving the ensemble-averaged diffusive Vlasov-Boltzmann equation. The momentum dependence of heavy quark transport coefficients in the medium is seen to be sensitive to the strength of the anisotropy for both collisional and radiative processes. The second-order hydrodynamic equations for evolution of shear and bulk viscous pressure have been derived within the framework of covariant kinetic theory based on the effective fugacity quasiparticle model. The temperature-dependent fugacity parameter in the equilibrium distribution function leads to a mean field term in the Boltzmann equation which affects the interactions in the hot QCD matter. The viscous corrections to distribution function, up to second-order in gradient expansion, have been obtained by employing a Chapman-Enskog like iterative solution of the effective Boltzmann equation within the relaxation time approximation. The effect of mean field contributions to transport coefficients as well as entropy current has been studied up to second-order in gradients. In contrast to the previous calculations, we find non-vanishing entropy flux at second order. The effective description of relativistic second-order viscous hydrodynamics, for a system of interacting quarks and gluons, has been quantitatively analyzed in the case of the $1+1-$dimensional boost invariant longitudinal expansion. We study the proper time evolution of temperature, pressure anisotropy, and viscous corrections to entropy density for this simplified expansion. The second order evolution of quark-gluon plasma is seen to be affected significantly with the inclusion of mean field contributions and the realistic equation of state.

Section 1 reviews experimental results of some recent light-flavored particle production data from ALICE collaboration. Other sections are mostly theoretical in nature.
Very strong but transient magnetic field created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions could have important observational consequences. This has generated a lot of theoretical activity in the last decade. Sections 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11 deal with the effects of the magnetic field on the properties of the QCD matter. There are several unanswered questions about the QCD phase diagram. Sections 3, 11 and 18 discuss various aspects of the QCD phase diagram and phase transitions.
Recent years have witnessed interesting developments in foundational aspects of hydrodynamics and their application to heavy-ion collisions. Sections 12, 15, 16 and 17 of this article probe some aspects of this exciting field.
Transport coefficients together with their temperature- and density-dependence, are essential inputs in hydrodynamical calculations. Sections 5, 8 and 14 deal with calculation/estimation of various transport coefficients (shear and bulk viscosity, thermal conductivity, relaxation times, etc.) of quark matter and hadronic matter.
Sections 4, 6 and 13 deals with interesting new developments in the field. Section 4 discusses color dipole gluon distribution function at small transverse momentum in the form of a series of Bells polynomials. Section 6 discusses the properties of Higgs boson in the quark gluon plasma using Higgs-quark interaction. Section 13 discusses modification of coalescence model to incorporate viscous corrections and application of this model.

A comparative study between collisional and anomalous contributions to the dilepton production rates has also been explored. Collisional energy loss of heavy partons (charm and bottom quarks) has been determined within the framework of semi-classical transport theory implying Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) collisional kernel. Hot QCD medium effects have been incorporated while employing a quasi-particle description of the medium in terms of effective gluons, quarks and antiquarks with respective temperature dependent effective fugacities. The momentum dependence of the energy loss for charm and bottom quark has been investigated. It is observed that with the increase in momentum of the heavy quarks, the loss increases sharply for the smaller values and reaches a saturation later. Further, as compared to the charm quark, bottom quark losses less energy at a particular momentum and collisional frequency. The energy loss is seen to increase with increasing collisional frequency. We also provide a comparative study of the results obtained using BGK-kernel than those using relaxation time approximation (RTA)-kernel and found them consistent with each other. The medium effects in all the situations are seen to play quite significant role.

The longitudinal current density induced by the inhomogeneous electric field in the hot magnetized quark-gluon plasma has been investigated and utilized in obtaining the conductivity of the medium. The analysis has been done in the regime where inhomogeneity of the field is small so that the collision effect could be significant. The modeling of the QCD medium is based on a quasiparticle description where the medium effects have been encoded in the effective quarks, antiquarks and gluons. The temperature dependence of the linear longitudinal current density (in terms of the electric field) and the additional components of current density due to the inhomogeneity of electric field (in terms of its derivatives) have been obtained by solving the $(1+1)-$dimensional effective covariant kinetic theory with a proper collision term. The conductivity has been obtained from the current density in the presence of the inhomogeneous field. The collisional aspects of the medium have been captured by including both thermal relaxation approximation and the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook collision kernels in the analysis. Further, the hot QCD medium effects and higher Landau level contributions to the current density and the conductivity have been investigated. It has been seen that the effects of inhomogeneity of the field and the mean field corrections to the current density and the conductivity are more visible in the temperature regions which are not far from the transition temperature.

The first order hydrodynamic evolution equations for the shear stress tensor, the bulk viscous pressure and the charge current have been studied for a system of quarks and gluons, with a non-vanishing quark chemical potential and finite quark mass. The first order transport coefficients have been obtained by solving an effective Boltzmann equation for the grand-canonical ensemble of quasiquarks and quasigluons. We adopted temperature dependent effective fugacity for the quasiparticles to encode the hot QCD medium effects. The non-trivial energy dispersion of the quasiparticles induces mean field contributions to the transport coefficients whose origin could be directly related to the realization of conservation laws from the effective kinetic theory. The dilepton production rate in hot QCD medium is studied within a effective description of the medium in the presence of magnetic field. This could be done by obtaining the one-loop self energy of photon due to the effective (quasi-) quark loop at finite temperature under an arbitrary external magnetic field while employing the real time formalism of Thermal Field Theory. The effective quarks and gluons encode hot QCD medium effective in terms of their respective effective fugacities. The magnetic field enters in the form of landau level quantization, in the matter sector (quarks, antiquarks). The full Schwinger proper time propagator including all the Landau levels is considered for the quasi quarks while calculating the photon self energy. The electromagnetic Debye screening (in terms of the self-energy) has seen to be influenced both by the hot QCD medium effects and magnetic field. Analogous results are also obtained from the semi classical transport theory. The imaginary part of the photon self energy function is obtained from the discontinuities of the self energy across the Unitary cuts which are also present at zero magnetic field and the Landau cuts which are purely due to the magnetic field. The dilepton production rate is then obtained in terms of the product of electromagnetic spectral functions due to quark loop and lepton loop. The modifications of both the quarks/antiquarks as well as leptons in presence of an arbitrary external magnetic field have been considered in the formalism. Significant enhancement of the low invariant mass dileptons due the appearance of the Landau cuts in the electromagnetic spectral function at finite external magnetic field has been observed. A substantial enhancement of dilepton rate is also found when the EOS effects are considered through the effective quarks/antiquraks.

In this article, shear viscosity, bulk viscosity, and thermal conductivity of a hot QCD medium have been studied in the presence of a strong magnetic field. To model the hot magnetized QCD matter, an extended quasi-particle description of the hot QCD equation of state in the presence of the magnetic field has been adopted. The effects of higher Landau levels on the temperature dependence of viscous coefficients (bulk and shear viscosities) and thermal conductivity have been obtained by considering the $1\rightarrow 2$ processes in the presence of the strong magnetic field. An effective covariant kinetic theory has been set up in (1+1)-dimensional that includes mean field contributions in terms of quasi-particle dispersions and magnetic field to describe the Landau level dynamics of quarks. The sensitivity of these parameters to the magnitude of the magnetic field has also been explored. Both the magnetic field and mean field contributions have seen to play a significant role in obtaining the temperature behaviour of the transport coefficients of hot QCD medium.

The present article is the follow up work of, Phys.\ Rev.\ D {\bf 94}, 094006 (2016), where we have extended the study of quarkonia dissociation in (momentum) anisotropic hot QCD medium. As evident by the experimentally observed collective flow at RHIC and LHC, the momentum anisotropy is present at almost all the stages after the collision and therefore, it is important to include its effects in the analysis. Employing the in-medium (corrected) potential while considering the anisotropy (both oblate and prolate cases) in the medium, the thermal widths and the binding energies of the heavy quarkonia states (s-wave charmonia and s-wave bottomonia specifically, for radial quantum numbers n = 1 and 2) have been determined. The hot QCD medium effects have been included employing a quasi-particle description. The presence of anisotropy has modified the potential and then the thermal widths and the binding energies of these states in a significant manner. The results show a quite visible shift in the values of dissociation temperatures as compared to the isotropic case. Further, the hot QCD medium interaction effects suppress the dissociation temperature as compared to the case where we consider the medium as a non-interacting ultra-relativistic gas of quarks (anti-quarks) and gluons.

The bulk viscosity of hot QCD medium has been obtained in the presence of strong magnetic field. The present investigation involves the estimation of the quark damping rate and subsequently the thermal relaxation time for quarks in the presence of magnetic field while realizing the hot QCD medium as an effective Grand-canonical ensemble of effective gluons and quarks-antiquarks. The dominant process in the strong field limit is $1\rightarrow 2$ ($g\rightarrow q \bar{q}$) which contributes to the bulk viscosity in a most significant way. Further, setting up the linearized transport equation in the framework of an effective kinetic theory with hot QCD medium effects and employing the relaxation time approximation, the bulk viscosity has been estimated in lowest Landau level (LLL) and beyond. The temperature dependence of the ratio of the bulk viscosity to entropy density indicates towards its rising behavior near the transition temperature.

An effective relativistic kinetic theory has been constructed for an interacting system of quarks, anti-quarks and gluons within a quasi-particle description of hot QCD medium at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential, where the interactions are encoded in the gluon and quark effective fugacities with non-trivial energy dispersions. The local conservations of stress-energy tensor and number current require the introduction of a mean field term in the transport equation which produces non-vanishing contribution to the first order transport coefficients. Such contribution has been observed to be significant for the temperatures which are closer to the QCD transition tem- perature, however, induces negligible contributions beyond a few times the transition temperature. As an implication, impact of the mean field contribution on the the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity, bulk viscosity and thermal conductivity of a hot QCD medium in the presence of binary, elastic collisions among the constituents, has been investigated. Visible effects have been observed for the temperature regime closer to the QCD transition temperature.

This model encodes the collective excitation of gluons and quarks/anti-quarks in the thermal medium in terms of effective quarks and gluons having non-trivial energy dispersion relation. The present investigation involves the extension of the effective quasi-particle model in strong magnetic field limit. Realizing, hot QCD medium in the strong magnetic field as an effective grand canonical system in terms of the modified quark, anti-quark and gluonic degrees of freedom, the thermodynamics has been studied. Further, the Debye mass in hot QCD medium has to be sensitive to the magnetic field, and subsequently the same has been observed for the effective hot QCD coupling. As an implication, electrical conductivity (longitudinal) has been studied within an effective kinetic theory description of hot QCD in the presence of the strong magnetic field. The hot QCD equation of state (EoS), dependence entering through the effective coupling and quasi-parton distribution function, found to have a significant impact on the longitudinal electrical conductivity in strong magnetic field background.

Collective modes of an anisotropic hot QCD medium have been studied within the semi-classical transport theory employing Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) collisional kernel. The modeling of the isotropic medium is primarily based on a recent quasi-particle description of hot QCD equation of state where the medium effects have been encoded in effective gluon and quark/anti-quark momentum distributions that posses non-trivial energy dispersions. The anisotropic distribution functions are obtained in a straightforward the way by stretching or squeezing the isotropic ones along one of the directions. The gluon self-energy is computed using these distribution functions in a linearized transport equation with Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) collisional kernel. Further, the tensor decomposition of gluon self-energy leads to the structure functions which eventually controls the dispersion relations and the collective mode structure of the medium. It has been seen that both the medium effects and collisions induce appreciable modifications to the collective modes and plasma excitations in the hot QCD medium.

The isotropic/equilibrium modelling is done within an effective quasi-particle model of hot QCD medium. The possibilities of negative refraction in the medium are also explored in terms of the Depine-Lakhtakia index. The anisotropic aspects of the hot QCD medium are incorporated by introducing the anisotropy in a particular direction. That makes the medium quite similar to uniaxial crystals, and hence we observe phenomenon of birefringence ( two distinct refractive indices in the anisotropic case). Interestingly, both anisotropy and medium effects play significant roles in deciding the optical properties of the hot QCD/Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) medium.

The main focus of this article is to obtain various transport coefficients for a hot QCD medium that is produced while colliding two heavy nuclei ultra-relativistically. As the hot QCD medium follows dissipative hydrodynamics while undergoing space-time evolution, the knowledge of the transport coefficients such as thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, shear and bulk viscosities are essential to understand the underlying physics there. The approach adopted here is semi-classical transport theory. The determination of all these transport coefficients requires knowledge of the medium away from equilibrium. In this context, we setup the linearized transport equation employing the Chapman-Enskog technique from kinetic theory of many particle system with a collision term that includes the binary collisions of quarks/antiquarks and gluons. In order to include the effects of a strongly interacting, thermal medium, a quasi-particle description of realistic hot QCD equation of state has been employed through the equilibrium modeling of the momentum distributions of gluons and quarks with non-trivial dispersion relations while extending the model for finite but small quark chemical potential. The effective coupling for strong interaction has been redefined following the charge renormalization under the scheme of the quasiparticle model. The consolidated effects on transport coefficients are seen to have significant impact on their temperature dependence. The relative significances of momentum and heat transfer as well as charge diffusion processes in hot QCD have been investigated by studying the ratios of the respective transport coefficients.

Collective excitations of a hot QCD medium are the main focus of the present article. The analysis is performed within semi-classical transport theory with isotropic and anisotropic momentum distribution functions for the gluonic and quark-antiquark degrees of freedom that constitutes the hot QCD plasma. The isotropic/equilibrium momentum distributions for gluons and quarks are based on a recent quasi-particle description of hot QCD equations of state. The anisotropic distributions are just the extensions of isotropic ones by stretching or squeezing them in one of the directions. The hot QCD medium effects in the model adopted here enter through the effective gluon and quark fugacities along with non-trivial dispersion relations leading to an effective QCD coupling constant. Interestingly, with these distribution functions the tensorial structure of the gluon polarization tensor in the medium turned out to be similar to the one for the non-interacting ultra-relativistic system of quarks/antiquarks and gluons . The interactions mainly modify the Debye mass parameter and , in turn, the effective coupling in the medium. These modifications have been seen to modify the collective modes of the hot QCD plasma in a significant way.

This has been done by investigating the medium modification to a heavy quark potential. The medium modified potential has a quite different form (a long range Coulomb tail in addition to the usual Yukawa term) in contrast to the usual picture of Debye screening. The flavor dependence of the binding energies of the heavy quarkonia states and the dissociation temperature have been obtained by employing the debye mass for pure gluonic and full QCD case computed employing the quasi-particle picture. Thus estimated dissociation patterns of the charmonium and bottomonium states, considering Debye mass from different approaches in pure gluonic case and full QCD, have shown good agreement with the other potential model studies.

The response of electromagnetic (EM) fields that are produced in non-central heavy-ion collisions to electromagnetically charged quark gluon plasma can be understood in terms of charge transport and charge diffusion in the hot QCD medium. This article presents a perspective on these processes by investigating the temperature behavior of the related transport coefficients, {\it viz.} electrical conductivity and the charge diffusion coefficients along with charge susceptibility. In the process of estimating them, thermal relaxation times for quarks and gluons have been determined first. These transport coefficients have been studied by solving the relativistic transport equation in the Chapman-Enskog method. For the analysis, $2\rightarrow 2$, quark-quark, quark-gluon and gluon-gluon scattering processes are taken into account along with an effective description of hot QCD Equations of state (EOSs) in terms of temperature dependent effective fugacities of quasi-quarks (anti-quarks) and quasi-gluons. Both improved perturbative hot QCD EOSs at high temperature and a lattice QCD EOS are included for the analysis. The hot QCD medium effects entering through the quasi-particle momentum distributions along with an effective coupling, are seen to have significant impact on the temperature behavior of these transport parameters along with the thermal relaxation times for the quasi-gluons and quasi-quarks

Momentum space anisotropy present in the quark and gluon distribution functions in relativistic heavy ion collisions induces Chromo-Weibel instability in the hot QCD medium created therein. The impact of the Chromo-Weibel instability on the dynamics of a heavy-quark (HQ) traversing in the QGP medium is investigated within the framework of kinetic theory by studying the momentum and temperature behavior of HQ drag and diffusion coefficients. The physics of anisotropy is captured in an effective Vlasov term in the transport equation. The effects of the instability are handled by making a relation with the phenomenologically known jet quenching parameter in RHIC and LHC. Interestingly, the presence of instability significantly affect the temperature and momentum dependences of the HQ drag and diffusion coefficients. These results may have appreciable impact on the experimental observables such as, the nuclear suppression factor, $R_{AA}(p_T)$, and the elliptic flow, $v_2(p_T)$, of heavy mesons in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies which is a matter of future investigation.

We consider and discuss different definitions of vorticity which are relevant in relativistic hydrodynamics. After demonstrating the excellent capabilities of our code, which proves to be able to reproduce Gubser flow up to 8 fm/c, we show that, with the initial conditions needed to reproduce the measured directed flow in peripheral collisions corresponding to an average impact parameter b=11.6 fm and with the Bjorken flow profile for a viscous Quark Gluon Plasma with η/s=0.1 fixed, a vorticity of the order of some 10^{-2} c/fm can develop at freezeout. The ensuing polarization of Lambda baryons does not exceed 1.4% at midrapidity. We show that the amount of developed directed flow is sensitive to both the initial angular momentum of the plasma and its viscosity.

We present an extension of relativistic single-particle distribution function for weakly interacting particles at local thermodynamical equilibrium including spin degrees of freedom, for massive spin 1/2 particles. We infer, on the basis of the global equilibrium case, that at local thermodynamical equilibrium particles acquire a net polarization proportional to the vorticity of the inverse temperature four-vector field. The obtained formula for polarization also implies that a steady gradient of temperature entails a polarization orthogonal to particle momentum. The single-particle distribution function in momentum space extends the so-called Cooper-Frye formula to particles with spin 1/2 and allows to predict their polarization in relativistic heavy ion collisions at the freeze-out.

The heavy-quark (HQ) transport coefficients have been estimated for a viscous quark-gluon plasma medium, utilizing a recently proposed quasi-particle description based on realistic QGP equation of state (EoS). Interactions entering through the equation of state significantly suppress the temperature dependence of the drag coefficient of QGP as compared to that of an ideal system of quarks and gluons. Inclusion of shear and bulk viscosities through the corrections to the thermal phase space factors of the bath particles alters the magnitude of the drag coefficient and the enhancement is significant at lower temperatures. The competition between the effects of realistic EoS and dissipative corrections through phase space factor the former eventually dictate how the drag coefficient would behave as a function of temperature, and how much quantitatively digress from the ideal case. The observations suggest significant impact of both the realistic equation of state, and the viscosities, on the HQs transport at RHIC and the LHC collision energies.

The bulk and shear viscosities ($η$ and $ζ$) have been studied for quark-gluon-plasma produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions within semi-classical transport theory, in a recently proposed quasi-particle model of (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD equation of state. These transport parameters have been found to be highly sensitive to the interactions present in hot QCD. Contributions to the transport coefficients from both the gluonic sector and the matter sector have been investigated. The matter sector is found to be significantly dominating over the gluonic sector, in both the cases of $η$ and $ζ$. The temperature dependences of the quantities, $ζ/{\mathcal S}$, and $ζ/η$ indicate a sharply rising trend for the $ζ$, closer to the QCD transition temperature. Both $η$, and $ζ$ are shown to be equally significant for the temperatures that are accessible in the relativistic heavy ion collision experiments, and hence play crucial role while investigating the properties of the quark-gluon plasma.

The bulk viscosity, $ζ$ and its ratio with the shear viscosity, $ζ/η$ have been studied in an anisotropically expanding pure glue plasma in the presence of turbulent color fields. It has been shown that the anisotropy in the momentum distribution function of gluons, which has been determined from a linearized transport equation eventually leads to the bulk viscosity. For the isotropic (equilibrium) state, a recently proposed quasi-particle model of pure SU(3) lattice QCD equation of state has been employed where the interactions are encoded in the effective fugacity. It has been argued that the interactions present in the equation of state, significantly contribute to the bulk viscosity. Its ratio with the shear viscosity is significant even at $1.5 T_c$. Thus, one needs to take in account the effects of the bulk viscosity while studying the hydrodynamic expansion of QGP in RHIC and LHC.

The dispersion relations, effective quasi-particle number densities, and trace anomaly have been investigated employing the model.A Virial expansion for the EOS has further been obtained to investigate the role of interactions in quark-gluon plasma (QGP). Finally, Debye screening in QGP has been studied employing the model.

A real time static potential has been obtained from a Hard thermal loop expression for the gluon self-energy, by employing the quasi-parton equilibrium distribution functions extracted from hot QCD equations of state of $O(g^5)$ and $O(g^6\ln(1/g))$. Employing the potential, quarkonia melting has been studied. It is found that the equations of state and the momentum anisotropy cause significant modifications in the screening properties of the plasma.

We extend the analysis of a very recent work (Phys. Rev. {\bf C 80}, 025210 (2009)) to study the dissociation phenomenon of 1p states of the charmonium and bottomonium spectra ($χ_c$ and $χ_b$) in a hot QCD medium. This study employed a medium modified heavy quark potential which is obtained by incorporating both perturbative and non-perturbative medium effects encoded in the dielectric function to the full Cornell potential. The medium modified potential has a quite different form (a long range Coulomb tail in addition to the usual Yukawa term) compared to the usual picture of Debye screening. We further study the flavor dependence of their binding energies and dissociation temperatures by employing the perturbative, non-perturbative, and the lattice parametrized form of the Debye masses. These results are consistent with the predictions of the current theoretical works.

We study the response functions (chromo-electric susceptibilities) for an interacting quark-gluon plasma. The interaction effects have been encoded in the effective fugacities for quasi-partons which are extracted self-consistently from the two equations of state for hot QCD. The first one is the fully perturbative $O(g^5)$ EOS and, the second one which is $O(g^6\ln(1/g))$, incorporates some non-perturbative effects. We find that response function shows large deviations from the ideal behavior. We further determine the temperature dependence of the Debye mass by fixing the effective coupling constant $Q^2$ which appears in the transport equation. We show that our formalism naturally yields the leading order HTL expression for the Debye mass if we employ the ideal EOS. Employing the Debye mass, we estimate the dissociation temperatures for various charmonium and bottomonium bound states. These results are consistent with the current theoretical studies.

At high temperatures, strongly interacting matter becomes a plasma of deconfined quarks and gluons. In statistical QCD, deconfinement and the properties of the resulting quark-gluon plasma can be investigated by studying the in-medium behaviour of heavy quark bound states. In high energy nuclear interactions, quarkonia probe different aspects of the medium formed in the collision. So, we first reviewed the fate of quarkonia in the different stages of the (dynamical) system produced at the collision. We have then presented our present work on the dissociation of the heavy quarkonium states in a hot QCD medium by investigating the medium modifications to heavy quark potential. In contrast to the usual screening picture, interestingly our theory gives rise the screening of the charge, not the range of the potential.

The method involves mapping the interaction part of the equation of state to an effective fugacity of otherwise non-interacting quasi-gluons. We find that this mapping is exact. Using the quasi-gluon distribution function, we determine the energy density and the modified dispersion relation for the single particle energy, in which the trace anomaly is manifest. As an application, we first determine the Debye mass, and then the important transport parameters, {\it viz}, the shear viscosity, $η$ and the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio, $η/{\mathcal S}$. We find that both $η$ and $η/{\mathcal S}$ are sensitive to the interactions, and that the interactions significantly lower both $η$ and $η/\mathcal S$.

We have studied the dissociation of heavy quarkonium states in a hot QCD medium by investigating the medium modifications to a heavy quark potential. Our model shows that in-medium modification causes the screening of the charge in contrast to the screening of the range of the potential. We have then employed the medium-modified potential to estimate the dissociation pattern of the charmonium and bottomonium states and also explore how the pattern changes as we go from the perturbative to nonperturbative domain in the Debye mass. The results are in good agreement with the other current theoretical works both from the spectral function analysis and the potential model study.
