Accuracy of the crossover sign to identify global retroversion of the acetabulum in comparison to version of the acetabulum in reconstructed three-dimensional computed tomography (3D CT) scan of the hip was the aim of this study. X-rays of 500 hips were assessed regarding presence of crossover sign and its location in the upper, middle, or lower third of the acetabulum. Mean of anteversion and true retroversion (defined as less than one standard deviation below the mean of acetabular anteversion) of the acetabulum using reconstructed 3D CT scan by mathematical software was determined among 500 hips. The positive and negative crossover signs were compared to the retroversion obtained by CT scan. The average of acetabular anteversion was 12.5 ± 4.2 degrees. True global retroversion in 3D CT scans was defined as a version below 8.3 degrees. Although positiv...

The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between normal values of flexor carpi radialis (FCR) H-reflex latency, upper limb length and age in normal subjects, and to determine whether there is any regression equation between them. By considering the criteria of inclusion and exclusion, 120 upper limbs of 69 normal volunteers (68 hands of 39 men and 52 hands of 30 women) with the mean age of 39.8 ± 11.2 years participated in this study. FCR H-reflex was obtained by standard electrodiagnostic techniques, and its onset latency was recorded. Upper limb length and arm length were measured in defined position. The degree of association between these variables was determined with Pearson correlation and linear regression was used for obtaining the proposed relations. Mean ...
Breast cancer is the second most common cause of death from cancer among women. Lifestyle changes... more Breast cancer is the second most common cause of death from cancer among women. Lifestyle changes are shown to be important in the prevention of breast cancer. Diet, physical activity, smoking, alcohol use, and vitamin and mineral use are key factors influencing the risk of breast cancer among women. Because these factors are related to each other, it is difficult to assess their individual roles in breast cancer. Some of these factors are alterable, meaning that women can decrease their risk for breast cancer by changing their behavior. Breast cancer is associated with a high rate of mortality and morbidity among women. Therefore, it is logical to try to find ways to decrease the risk of developing breast cancer. Lifestyle changes seem to be an easy, effective, and economical way to help prevention breast cancer. In women with a confirmed breast cancer diagnosis who are under radiotherapy treatment after undergoing a mastectomy, lifestyle changes are still very important. Some fact...

Subcutaneous Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s syndrome, or Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s panniculitis, is an uncommon variant of the classic syndrome, with hypodermal neutrophilic infiltration. The association of Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s syndrome with various malignancies has been reported. The most common underlying hematological malignancies are of myeloid origin; however, there have been several reports of the classic Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s syndrome in patients with a lymphoproliferative disorder, although the association of subcutaneous Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s syndrome with lymphoproliferative disorders has not been well-documented thus far. Herein, we present the case of a 48-year-old man with a 2-year history of chronic lymphocytic leukemia who developed fever and skin rashes, without any evidence of a relapse. The clinical and pathological investigation resulted in the diagnosis of subcutaneous Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s syndrome. The patient exhibited no significant response to conventional therapeutic measures; however, following two subsequent doses of rituximab, his general condition and skin rash improved. The follow-up skin biopsy demonstrated dermal neutrophilic infiltrations in conjunction with prior mixed lobular and septal panniculitis, suggesting evolution of subcutaneous Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s syndrome to its classic form. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first reports of rituximab as a novel biological treatment for Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s syndrome. However, further randomized trials are required to evaluate the efficacy and safety of such biological therapies for Sweet&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s syndrome.

The current study surveyed the rates and predictors of violence committed by inpatient psychiatric husbands towards their wives. A convenient sample of wives of 209 married male psychiatric inpatients completed a self-reported questionnaire. They were asked about physical, emotional, social and economic abuse. More than 80% of the husbands socially abused their wives; 73.0% of the wives had been regularly beaten by their husbands; the rate for humiliation was 77.2%; and only 14.1% of the wives reported that their sexual relationship with their husbands is with desire. Conclusion There is a dramatic high rate of different types of abuse toward wives by their inpatient psychiatric husbands. They are commonly victimized by their husbands. Moreover, different types of violence always co-occur. Future studies should consider this important issue which is unfortunately an ignored research area.

Eight years after lymphoblastic lymphoma, which presented as mediastinal mass and superior vena cava syndrome, the patient complained of abdominal pain, lower gastrointestinal bleeding and an abdominal mass. The surgical exploration revealed numerous mucosal polyps throughout the large intestine, and multifocal masses in the ascending and transverse colon and the rectosigmoid region. A retroperitoneal mass was also found. The pathological examination revealed &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;100 tubular adenomatous polyps and a multifocal, well-differentiated adenocarcinoma, with lymph node involvement and pericolic invasion. Interestingly, the immunohistochemical studies confirmed the malignant undifferentiated retroperitoneal mass as large B-cell lymphoma. Over a period of ~10 years, the patient had suffered from three different malignancies. To the best of our knowledge, such a combination of sporadic adenomatous colonic polyposis, colorectal carcinoma and two extra-intestinal non-Hodgkin lymphomas has not been reported to date. It should be considered that each malignancy increases the risk for other neoplastic diseases and a close follow-up is crucial for early detection of second malignancies and neoplastic syndromes.

Two functional germ line variants -69G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;A (rs174538) and +4150G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;T (rs4246215) in the FEN1 gene have been associated with risk of various types of cancer. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible impact of FEN1 polymorphisms on risk of breast cancer (BC) in a sample of Iranian subjects. The FEN1 -69G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;A and +4150G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;T polymorphisms were analyzed in a case-control study that included 266 BC patients and 225 healthy females. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis was used to genotype the variants. The findings demonstrated that the FEN1 -69G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;A and +4150G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;T polymorphisms were not associated with BC risk in co-dominant, dominant and recessive inheritance models. The findings indicated that GG/GT, GA/GG and GA/TT genotypes significantly decreased the risk of BC when compared with -69GG/+4150GG. Furthermore, haplotype analysis indicated that -69G/+4150T as well as -69A/+4150G significantly decreased the risk of BC compared with -69G/+4150G. Thus, these findings demonstrated that haplotypes of FEN1 -69G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;A and +4150G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;T polymorphisms decreased the risk of BC in an Iranian population. Further studies with larger sample sizes and different ethnicities are required to validate the present findings.

Recent evidence suggests that the pri-miR-34b/c rs4938723 variant is associated with the development of cancer. At present, there is an inconsistent association between the single-nucleotide polymorphism in pri-miR-34b/c and cancer in the limited studies. The present study is a case-control investigation, with 263 breast cancer (BC) patients and 221 control women, which examined the potential association of the pri-miR-34b/c rs4938723 polymorphisms with BC susceptibility. The polymorphisms were genotyped by the polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism method. No significant association between the pri-miR-34b/c rs4938723 variant and BC was identified [TC vs. TT: Odds ratio (OR), 0.87; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.60-1.26; P=0.506; CC vs. TT: OR, 1.22; 95% CI, 0.61-2.47; P=0.600; TC+CC vs. TT: OR, 0.91; 95% CI, 0.64-1.31; P=0.648; CC vs. TT+TC: OR, 1.32; 95% CI, 0.67-2.59; P=0.498; C vs. T: OR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.75-1.31; P=0.986]. However, a significant association was observed between the pri-miR-34b/c rs4938723 genotypes and clinicopathological characteristics, such a grade, progesterone receptor and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 status were observed (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;0.05). These findings suggest that the pri-miR-34b/c rs4938723 variant may not be a risk factor for the development of BC.

It has been reported that several factors such as eustachian tube dysfunction, insufficiencies in the aeration of the mastoid cells, allergies, immunity, and infections play an important role in the etiology of the disease. Little is known about the role of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in extragastric diseases. Because of the near location of the nose, sinuses, tonsils, and adenoids to the eustachian tube and middle ear, we believe it is possible to have H. pylori in the middle ear. The present study was designed to investigate the presence of H. pylori by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the middle ear effusion of patients with OME. The study was performed on 21 patients, 19 patients were affected bilaterally, and 2 patients were affected unilaterally, from which 40 specimens were collected. OME was diagnosed through findings by otoscopic examination and tympanogram. The middle ...

There are some difficulties in applying smooth specimen fatigue test results to life prediction of notched components due to the effects of stress gradients, local geometries, and incompatibility of fatigue failure definitions between smooth and notched specimens. The main objective of this paper

For printing and heavier grades an alternative strategy is for novel combinations of cylinder drying with air convection drying, now limited to tissue and toweling. On incorporation of high drying rate techniques into such hybrid drying processes, drying nonuniformity could

The persistence of HBV DNA in serum and hepatocytes of the cirrhotic patient could be detected by molecular techniques in spite of negative HBV serologic markers. This case-control study was designed to evaluate the prevalence of occult HBV infection (OBI) in patients with cryptogenic liver cirrhosis in comparison with healthy subjects. Of 165 patients with liver cirrhosis, 50 consecutive patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis and 80 healthy individual without any risk factors as a control group were enrolled in this study. Their sera were tested for HBV DNA using nested PCR method. Of 50 patients with cryptogenic cirrhotic, 36 (72%) were male. The mean age of patients was 53.34 ± 14.73 years; 80 healthy subjects were selected as control group with mean age of 32.65 ± 8.51 years; 7 (14%) of the patients with cryptogenic c...

The sex addicted ones make great efforts in order to control or postpone their sexual actions, nevertheless all their endeavors conclude failure. Sexual addiction is not affected by a certain cause; yet it is thought that different biological, psychological and social factors contribute to its development. Sexual addiction like other psychiatric conditions have overlapping factors of mental disorders as if they are more prevalent in some groups, including sex offenders and people with infectious diseases(HIV/AIDS). Although neurobiological and psychological mechanisms in sexual addiction commence apparently, there currently is no psychological and mental treatment for the disorder; this is partly because of the Umbrella structure in sexual addiction that includes groups of different types of problematic behavior. By means of clearer comprehension in etiology and the related properties of sexual addiction, it is plausible to prevent the negative consequences of the discussed disorder including the possibility of job loss, legal, social and emotional problems, higher statistics of divorce and possible health risks associated with sexually transmitted diseases. The research attended in this area should contain the development of accurate screening tool for understanding the potential risks of this disorder.

Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study 300 male students of Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University were selected in the 2016/2017 academic year, based on faculty and major by cluster- random sampling method and completed the Hypersexual Behavior Inventory (HBI), the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) as well as the Ryff Scale of Psychological Well-Being (RSPWB). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), Pearson’s correlation coefficient as well as multiple linear regression.
Results: The results showed that there were significant correlations between difficulties in emotion regulation (r=0.51, p<0.001) and psychological well-being (r=-0.39, p<0.001) and hypersexual disorder in the students. Also, the difficulties in emotion regulation (R2=30.2%) and psychological well-being (R2=17.8%) could favorably predict the hypersexual disorder in the students.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, noticing the role of emotion regulation and psychological well-being difficulties in the hypersexual disorders is necessary and beginning the appropriate and effective interventions for addressing these problems and training positive regulatory strategies and effective coping strategies in students can prevent developing these disorders and the following health consequences (like unintended pregnancies and sexully transmitted diseases).
