ウェスタン・デジタルの日立HDD事業買収、条件付きで承認へ ECの決定により、ウェスタンは生産工場を売却しなければ買収できないことに 米国Western Digitalによる日立製作所のハードディスク・ドライブ（HDD）事業買収が認められる見込みだ。ただし、そのためには、Western Digitalが3.5インチ型HDD生産プラントを売却しなければならないとのことだ。 欧州委員会（EC）は、11月23日にこうした裁定を下した。ECは調査を実施したうえで、Western Digitalと日立が合併した組織に競合しうるのは、やはり、最近合併した米国Seagateおよび韓国Samsungのみであるとの結論に達した。 競争の欠如が価格上昇といったかたちで消費者に影響を与える懸念があったことから、Western Digitalは生産施設の一部を手放さねばならないという判決が出されたのである。 競争
