We aimed to examine high school students' level of mathematics anxiety and use of self-regulatory... more We aimed to examine high school students' level of mathematics anxiety and use of self-regulatory learning strategies as a function of different variables and to examine the correlation between these variables. The sample consisted of 330 students at 11th and 12th grades from three different high schools in the west of Turkey. We used the Revised Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale, Self-Regulatory Strategies Scale, and a personal information form. We found that female students' level of mathematics anxiety and use of self-regulatory learning strategies were higher than male students. Moreover, we found that 11th grade students had higher mathematics anxiety than 12th grade students and that there is a significant difference in students' level of mathematics anxiety by mathematics achievement. In contrast, use of self-regulatory learning strategies did not demonstrate a significant difference by mathematics achievement scores. We found no correlation between students' level of mathematics anxiety and use of selfregulatory learning strategies.

The study's data collection tools consisted of a personal data form, Self-Efficacy Perception Related to Block-Based Programming scale, and Self-Efficacy Perception for Computational Thinking Skills scale. As a consequence of the research, researchers concluded that students' self-efficacy perceptions related to block-based programming and computational thinking skills was moderate and that these two variables had a moderate and statistically significant positive relationship.

Parents should have knowledge and awareness of the conscious use of applications on smart devices. For this reason, a scale to measure parents' knowledge and awareness of the conscious use of applications on smart devices has become necessary. Due to this necessity, we want to conduct this study. The research's problem was how parents' knowledge and awareness of the conscious use of applications on smart devices could be measured using a valid and reliable scale. We conducted the research in an exploratory sequential design with two stages one of the mixed methods research. We collected and analyzed qualitative data from 33 parents in the rst stage, and we collected quantitative data from 602 parents and performed a quantitative analysis to evaluate the rst stage's results in the second stage. After reviewing the literature, we concluded that the scale's dimensions as a theoretical model were (1) application, (2) bene t, (3) restriction, and (4) worry. We decided on the scale's items according to the theoretical model after analyzing the parents' opinions and obtaining experts' evaluations for the content validity of the scale items. We demonstrated that the theoretical model was supported by the analyses we performed using the data we collected. We learned how a valid and reliable scale could be used to measure the parents' knowledge and awareness of the conscious use of applications on smart devices, including current and future computer systems. The scale we developed had more speci c dimensions compared to the scales in the literature about digital parenting.

Besides, the teacher candidates' views were asked about the workshop. A research design of a mixed method was used. In the quantitative part, the pre-and post-test single group experimental design was used, and in the qualitative part, the case study design was used. The research group consisted of 33 teacher candidates enrolled in a faculty of education at a university in western Turkey. To gather the quantitative and qualitative data, two scales and one questionnaire with open-ended questions were applied. A workshop was organized to teach the Web 2.0 tools to the teacher candidates in the study. While the scales were used as the pre-and post-test, the teacher candidates' views regarding the workshop were collected with the questionnaire. For the quantitative data analysis, the paired samples t-test was used and for the qualitative data analysis the content analysis was used. The study results showed that the Web 2.0 workshop was effective in improving the teacher candidates' technopedagogical education competencies and self-efficacy beliefs in developing Web 2.0 content. The teacher candidates expressed positive opinions about the workshop.
The aim of this study is to determine the teacher candidates' perceptions of virtual bullying and... more The aim of this study is to determine the teacher candidates' perceptions of virtual bullying and to examine whether the virtual bullying perceptions differs in terms of gender, age, duration of internet use, number of social networks used, department attended. The research was conducted in the relational survey model. The research group formed 268 teacher candidates from nine different departments of an education faculty of a university in Western Anatolia in the fall semester of the 2016-2017 academic year. The sample of the study was determined through the convenience sampling method. Teachers' Perception of Virtual Bullying Scale was used in order to determine the teacher candidates' perceptions of virtual bullying in the study. As a result of the study, it was seen that the perceptions of the teacher candidates' virtual bullying were quite high. It was found that the scores of the perception of virtual bullying were significantly different according to sex in favor of female teacher candidates. In addition, it was found that the scores of virtual bullying perception were significantly different according to department attended, between Music Education and Turkish Education departments was significant for Music Education; it did not show any significant difference according to age, duration of internet use and number of social networks used.

Students use technology intensively on daily basis, and the need for training these students in a way to establish safe online communication and collaboration has put the concept of digital citizenship on the agenda. In this study, the theoretical framework of the concept of digital citizenship was introduced, and the studies reported in the literature regarding digital citizenship and teaching of it were examined. The studies reviewed included (1) those on the introduction of the concept of digital citizenship or the elements of digital citizenship, (2) those conducted to determine the participants' digital citizenship levels or perceptions, (3) those examining the curricula within the framework of digital citizenship, and (4) those carried out in relation to teaching of digital citizenship and its elements. The studies in each group were briefly introduced. As a result of the study, several suggestions were put forward regarding digital citizenship education.

This study examined the development of pre-service teachers’ skills in analysing the achievements... more This study examined the development of pre-service teachers’ skills in analysing the achievements of secondary school sixth grade Information Technologies and Software Course curriculum in regard to the revised Bloom’s taxonomy at a western Anatolian university in Turkey. A single group pre-test, post-test experimental design was used, and 99 pre-service teachers participated in the study. The sample was determined according to the purposive sampling method. The pre-test presented achievements for the pre-service teachers to analyse in regard to the revised Bloom’s taxonomy, after which the revised Bloom’s taxonomy’s analysis was taught. The achievements were given as the post-test for pre-service teachers to re-analyse. The pre-service teachers’ total scores were calculated based on their accuracy. The pre- and post-test total scores were compared, and the total scores of the post-test were higher than those of the pre-test. Suggestions were made regarding future research on the revised Bloom’s taxonomy and achievements analysis teaching.

In the study, the case study method, one of qualitative research methods, was used. The participants of the study were 42 academic staff teaching in six faculties from nine universities in Turkey. The research data were collected using the semi-structured interview method, and content analysis was conducted on the collected data. According to the research results, most of the participants used more than one method for assessment, and the most common methods were homework, tests with multiple choice questions, tests with open-ended questions, projects, and reports. It was found that the most important problem reported by the participants in relation to assessment was the cheating done by students in online exams. In this study, which was conducted with 20 preservice teachers participated in the instruction fo... more In this study, which was conducted with 20 preservice teachers participated in the instruction focused on mathematical thinking, it was aimed to determine preservice teachers' skills in planning of teaching focusing on mathematical thinking in the school practice. It is a part of teaching practice course in which the preservice teachers attended one semester after the instruction. In the study, a classroom activ ity carried out by students, that focuses their attention on a specific mathemat ical thought was defined as a mathematical task and the preservice teachers were asked to make plans for school practice using mathematical tasks of their choice. The plans made by preservice teachers were analyzed with a scoring rubric for attention to students' thinking. The rubric is a tool relevant to the theoretical framework of the research. In the analysis, it was observed that the plans made by preservice teachers got high scores in total and according to the dimensions of the rubric which are mathematical goal, anticipating students' correct and incorrect thinking, asking questions that are assessing and advancing students' thinking, d iscussion that is based on students' thinking and that is making the mathematics clear. Accordingly, it was concluded that the preservice teachers could focus on students' mathematical thin king in their p lans made for school practice.

Semistructured interview method was used to collect the data in the study which was conducted according to the phenomenological design of qualitative research designs. The data obtained from the interviews were coded using content analysis. The data were classified according to the themes that appeared after coding. As a result of the analyses, the majority of the students stated that the abstract process of the algorithm writing process made it difficult to learn the topics of the algorithm, the process of learning the topics of the algorithm with the active methods and the use of the algorithm visualization applications concretize the abstract processes. At the end of the research, suggestions were made for the teaching of algorithms.

A workshop was organized to teach the Web 2.0 tools to the teacher candidates in the study. While the scales were used as the pre-and post-test, the teacher candidates' views regarding the workshop were collected with the questionnaire. For the quantitative data analysis, the paired samples t-test was used and for the qualitative data analysis the content analysis was used. The study results showed that the Web 2.0 workshop was effective in improving the teacher candidates' technopedagogical education competencies and self-efficacy beliefs in developing Web 2.0 content. The teacher candidates expressed positive opinions about the workshop.
The aim of this study is to determine the teacher candidates' perceptions of virtual bullying and... more The aim of this study is to determine the teacher candidates' perceptions of virtual bullying and to examine whether the virtual bullying perceptions differs in terms of gender, age, duration of internet use, number of social networks used, department attended. The research was conducted in the relational survey model. The research group formed 268 teacher candidates from nine different departments of an education faculty of a university in Western Anatolia in the fall semester of the 2016-2017 academic year. The sample of the study was determined through the convenience sampling method. Teachers' Perception of Virtual Bullying Scale was used in order to determine the teacher candidates' perceptions of virtual bullying in the study. As a result of the study, it was seen that the perceptions of the teacher candidates' virtual bullying were quite high. It was found that the scores of the perception of virtual bullying were significantly different according to sex in favor of female teacher candidates. In addition, it was found that the scores of virtual bullying perception were significantly different according to department attended, between Music Education and Turkish Education departments was significant for Music Education; it did not show any significant difference according to age, duration of internet use and number of social networks used.

Students use technology intensively on daily basis, and the need for training these students in a way to establish safe online communication and collaboration has put the concept of digital citizenship on the agenda. In this study, the theoretical framework of the concept of digital citizenship was introduced, and the studies reported in the literature regarding digital citizenship and teaching of it were examined. The studies reviewed included (1) those on the introduction of the concept of digital citizenship or the elements of digital citizenship, (2) those conducted to determine the participants' digital citizenship levels or perceptions, (3) those examining the curricula within the framework of digital citizenship, and (4) those carried out in relation to teaching of digital citizenship and its elements. The studies in each group were briefly introduced. As a result of the study, several suggestions were put forward regarding digital citizenship education.

This study examined the development of pre-service teachers’ skills in analysing the achievements... more This study examined the development of pre-service teachers’ skills in analysing the achievements of secondary school sixth grade Information Technologies and Software Course curriculum in regard to the revised Bloom’s taxonomy at a western Anatolian university in Turkey. A single group pre-test, post-test experimental design was used, and 99 pre-service teachers participated in the study. The sample was determined according to the purposive sampling method. The pre-test presented achievements for the pre-service teachers to analyse in regard to the revised Bloom’s taxonomy, after which the revised Bloom’s taxonomy’s analysis was taught. The achievements were given as the post-test for pre-service teachers to re-analyse. The pre-service teachers’ total scores were calculated based on their accuracy. The pre- and post-test total scores were compared, and the total scores of the post-test were higher than those of the pre-test. Suggestions were made regarding future research on the revised Bloom’s taxonomy and achievements analysis teaching.

In the study, the case study method, one of qualitative research methods, was used. The participants of the study were 42 academic staff teaching in six faculties from nine universities in Turkey. The research data were collected using the semi-structured interview method, and content analysis was conducted on the collected data. According to the research results, most of the participants used more than one method for assessment, and the most common methods were homework, tests with multiple choice questions, tests with open-ended questions, projects, and reports. It was found that the most important problem reported by the participants in relation to assessment was the cheating done by students in online exams. In this study, which was conducted with 20 preservice teachers participated in the instruction fo... more In this study, which was conducted with 20 preservice teachers participated in the instruction focused on mathematical thinking, it was aimed to determine preservice teachers' skills in planning of teaching focusing on mathematical thinking in the school practice. It is a part of teaching practice course in which the preservice teachers attended one semester after the instruction. In the study, a classroom activ ity carried out by students, that focuses their attention on a specific mathemat ical thought was defined as a mathematical task and the preservice teachers were asked to make plans for school practice using mathematical tasks of their choice. The plans made by preservice teachers were analyzed with a scoring rubric for attention to students' thinking. The rubric is a tool relevant to the theoretical framework of the research. In the analysis, it was observed that the plans made by preservice teachers got high scores in total and according to the dimensions of the rubric which are mathematical goal, anticipating students' correct and incorrect thinking, asking questions that are assessing and advancing students' thinking, d iscussion that is based on students' thinking and that is making the mathematics clear. Accordingly, it was concluded that the preservice teachers could focus on students' mathematical thin king in their p lans made for school practice.

As the participants were selected from students who had taken the courses on algorithm and programming, criterion sampling method was used as one of the purposive sampling methods. Semistructured interview method was used to collect the data in the study which was conducted according to the phenomenological design of qualitative research designs. The data obtained from the interviews were coded using content analysis. The data were classified according to the themes that appeared after coding. As a result of the analyses, the majority of the students stated that the abstract process of the algorithm writing process made it difficult to learn the topics of the algorithm, the process of learning the topics of the algorithm with the active methods and the use of the algorithm visualization applications concretize the abstract processes. At the end of the research, suggestions were made for the teaching of algorithms.
