The study followed the mixed research method and the sample of the study consisted of 116 first grade early childhood education undergraduate students at a university in Turkey. This study was conducted in an introductory computer course. The flipped classroom method is compared to traditional techniques in this study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and a course interest survey in this 10-week mixed method study. Inferential and descriptive analysis methods were applied to the data. An independent samples t-test was used to determine the difference between experimental and control groups in terms of motivation. The interviews were analyzed with descriptive analysis method. Results showed that students who were trained with the flipped classroom method had more motivation than students who were trained with traditional methods. Students reported that hands-on in-class activities, group work, and gamification activities increased their motivation. Additionally, students reported that the difficulty level of in-class activities, watching videos, and dealing with the course outside of the classroom decreased their motivation. Consequently, when designed effectively, the flipped classroom method can increase the students' motivation towards the course. Also, suggestions for practitioners were discussed in this study.

It covers 113 papers published in 44 international Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and Science Citation Index (SCI) journals. Studies on instructional design models are explored in terms of journal of publication, preferred model, country where the study was conducted, research method, data collection tool, data analysis method, sampling interval, and field in which the model was applied. Studies are also examined in terms of variables, focusing on connections with model used, relevant results, and orientation of the model (e.g., system-oriented, class-oriented, or product-oriented). Results identified the most preferred models as ADDIE, ARCS, Gagne and Briggs, 4C-ID, and Dick and Carey. System-based instructional design models were most common. These results show recent trends in instructional design models and will contribute to both researchers and instructional designers.

The flipped classroom method is compared to traditional techniques in this study through quasi-experimental research. Participants included 116 prospective teachers assigned to experimental and control groups. The study was conducted over 10 weeks during the 2013–2014 spring semester. Results showed that students taught with the flipped classroom model reported higher learning achievements and lower cognitive loads than those taught with the traditional model. The instructional efficiency scores of the students in the experimental group were also higher than those of the students in the control group. Hence, when designed effectively, the flipped classroom method can be considered a useful approach in higher education settings.

The data were obtained from 2904 preservice teachers from 16 universities through a survey. Comparative design was employed, and the data were analyzed through descriptive analysis, content analysis, and a MANOVA. Gender and university were not found to have any influence on perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use and efficacy, social influence, facilitating conditions, anxiety, or intention. The variable of department, on the other hand, had an influence on all factors except for social influence.
