The use of social networks is a growing phenomenon, being increasingly important in both private and academic life. Social networks are used as tools to enable users to have social interaction. Social networking tools, reinforced by proliferation and advances in portable computing and wireless technologies have reshaped how information is produced, communicated, and consumed. Social networking tools also play the important role in research activities. The study investigates that the level of awareness on Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNS) amo... more The study investigates that the level of awareness on Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNS) among the research scholars in the Universities of Tamil Nadu and also the sources used to create awareness about ASNS. A well structured questionnaire was designed to collect the data from the respondents. A total of 1100 were distributed among the research scholars in the Universities of Tamil Nadu. Out of 1100 questionnaires, 773 filled in questionnaire were received back. It is found that majority of the respondents are having medium level of awareness on ASNS. Further, the level of awareness on ASNS in respect of various age groups and qualifications were also found. Majority of the research scholars were widely used web resources to aware of ASNS. The study has recommended the level of awareness on Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNS) are to be promoted among the research scholars in Universities of Tamil Nadu.

The study investigates the awareness, perceptions, purposes, and advantages of Academic Social Ne... more The study investigates the awareness, perceptions, purposes, and advantages of Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNS) among the research scholars in State Universities of Tamil Nadu. A well structured questionnaire was designed to collect the data from the respondents and a total of 1100 questionnaire were distributed, 773 filled in questionnaire were received back. The result shows that the level of awareness on ASNS was found less, among the research scholars. The research scholars are highly using ASNS to find and share the information, the research scholars should be encouraged to organize research work systematically and also to collaborate with experts and researchers. Since, the level of awareness is found less among research scholars it is recommended to organize innovative programmes such as workshops and hands on trainings to enhance the level of awareness.

We are in the in the midst of flourishing digital age and the problems of the past are rectified by innovative techniques of the golden digital age especially for the research community. Author Ambiguity Problem was one among the prolonged problem of the research community. But now author identifiers became most powerful rectifier of the problem. By giving an unique ID to each author, we can rectify ‘n’ number of problems regarding ambiguity issues. This paper explains need and various author identifiers as ORCID, ResearcherID and Scopus Author ID and also the comparison of these ID’s.

ResearchGate is one of the much utilizing academic networking sites in the midst of the academicians and researchers all over the world. This paper discusses on objectives, importance and highlights of ResearchGate and its utilization in Tamilnadu State Universities in terms of publication, membership, total RG scores and top departments with members.
