New Historicism tends to project that a literary text and the historical context are not autonomous, but are reiated. This reiationship is reciprocal, ~s both history and the literary text are important to understand the episteme of a p.artieular time. Thus New Historicism which accounts for the return to history can be called the poetics of culture. Following Michel Foucault, the New Historicists took into consideration the circulation of knowledge through a social-order, which Foucault called, episteme. This knowledge, which is not necessarily true, is thus a construct. It is mostly constructed to create a totalizing effect, which is apparent in the literary texts and which needs to be discovered. Therefore it is important to study discourses according to their modes of existence, and how knowledge finds its existence, is one of the major concern. s of New-Historicism. Thus unlike the old-historicists, new-historicists are aware ofthe possible polemical subjectivity of the knowledge, which in this paper we can apply to the official history laid down by the historiographers and the people at power, thereby searching an alternate history provided by .literary texts. New-historicist approach questions the totalizing tendencies of the national historiographers and argues that if we consider only the generalisation, we are prone to miss some details or the underlying truths.
