Bahasa Telugu adalah sabuah basa Dravida nang dituturakan di India hapat selatan. Bahasa ini baisi jumlah panutur sabasar sakitar 80 juta jiwa. Bahasa Telugu adalah basa India katalu paling ganal.
Etimologi
[babak | babak asal-mulanya]Urang nang bapandir basa Telugu biasanya dingaraniTelugu or Telugoo.[1] Bentuk ngaran nang tetuha matan basa naya tamasuk Teluṅgu, Tenuṅgu and Teliṅga.[2] Atharvana Acharya pas abad ka-13 manulis tatabasa Telugu, nang dingaraninyaTrilinga Śabdānusāsana (or Trilinga Grammar).[3] Appa Kavi pas abad ka-17th century lawan tagas manulis bahwa ngaran Telugu baasal matanTrilinga. Saikung sarjana basa bangaran Charles P. Brown bakumintar bahwa masalah tadi marupakan "pamikiran aneh" maraga pendahulu matan Appa Kavi kadada baisi ilmu masalah panurunan basa.[4]
George Abraham Grierson wan ahli basa lainnya maraguakan panurunan kata ngini, buhannya bakayakinan bahwa Telugu marupakam bantuk kata nang tatuha padaTrilinga nang marupakan sanskritisasi matan kata ngitu.[5][6] Amun bujur panurunan kata ngitu tadi tuha banar maragaTriglyphum, Trilingum wan Modogalingam basumber matan bukti Yunani Bahari, bukti pauncitan bisa haja bukti bahwa telugu marupakan turunan kata matan "Trilinga".[7]
Pandapat lainnua bakayikan bahwa tenugu baasal matan kata proto-Dravidi ten ("south")[8] nang baisi arti "urang nang hidup di salatan atawa arah salatan" (bahubungan lawan urang nang bapandir Sanskrit wan Prakrit). Ngaran Telugu, baarti hasil parubahan manyambatan "n" ka "l" dalam kata Telugu.[9][10]

The easier and more ancient "Telugu" appears to have been converted here into the impressive Sanskrit word Trilinga, and making use of its enormous prestige as the classical language, the theory was put forth that the word Trilinga is the mother and not the child.
