This complex could be named “the Jagelonian cycle”. Most of this texts were created in the 1810s and 1820s, but were published in different languages just in the 1840s-1860s in Western Europe. The Lelewel’s works of this period are devoted to the history of Central and Eastern Europe region, and specifically to the development of the statehood of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the rule of representatives of the Jagelonian dynasty. The Jagelonian cycle is quite small among all Lelewel's works in history and methodology, but it is the most developed and innovative. The Jagelons’ Age in the texts by J. Lelewel can be distinguished as a separate author narrative, which was supposed to influence the national histories of the region in the XIXth – first half of the XXth centuries. In the texts by J. Lelewel can be traced his vision of the periodization of the Jagelons’ Age, representatives of the dynasty as heroes of the era, and the characteristics of their foreign and domestic policies. A separate issue constitutes a using of Lelewel's political biography for qualification his scientific heritage within the context of the historiography of the second half of the XXth century. The author indicate a lack of demand for Lelewel's thesis about the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania at the Jagelons’Age, neither at the XIXth not at the XXth century. He also indicates the special role of the Poznań school of the History of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, created by Henryk Łowmiański, a graduate and professor of the Stephen Bathory University in Vilna at the second half of the XXth century. The Jagelonian narrative by J. Lelewel is practically absent in Belarusian historiography at the XXth and early XXIst centuries. Although the biography of Grand Duke Sigismund the Old created J. Lelewel defines the criteria of the "golden age" for the Belarusian and Lithuanian lands. Although we can borrow his productive sight on the Polish-Lithuanian Unions at the end of the XIVth – XVIth centuries, which he divided into intra-dynastic and state.

During the Soviet period the research was concentrated around the issues of the duchy’s beginnings and around ethnic and social issues. The goal was to show that the class leeched off by Lithuanian feudal lord was mostly Ruthenian population. The issues of religion were also ignored. At the beginning of the 1990s Russian historians also did not write about territorial issues of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. At the turn of the centuries most of the papers published in scientific journal and monographies were treated in an integral way. The research now centres around the political system of the state, its territorial changes and ethnic issues. The context of the relations with the Grand Duchy of Muscovy.

The author in the article draws attention to the formation of interest in the Jagiellonian dynasty in the Polish historiography of the 1910-30s, as well as the traditions construction by national scientific schools. It identifies the main directions in the study of the Jagiellonian dynasty period the in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the heritage by Oscar Halecki. The author comes to the conclusion about the return of interest to the Jagiellons in the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 1990s in the historiographies of the Central and Eastern Europe, precisely because of the reassessment of the works of O. Halecki, but his views was completely different.
