Design/methodology/approach A qualitative design was used. Ten participants were recruited through purposive sampling. Face-to-face, semi-structured interviews were used in collecting data. Data were analysed by thematic analysis. Findings The four themes identified were as follows: communication by considering time difference; considering factors related to effective communication, either family member–related factors or registered nurse–related factors; strategies of communicating to support family members, such as giving an opportunity to ask for accurate information, communicating to build self-confidence and communicating through cases; and using the art of communication by speaking slowly and clearly, using colloquialisms, being steady and calm, as well as using positive language. Seventy ageing adults with hypertension participated in this study which was conducted in Chantha Buri province, Thailand. The participants were randomly divided equally into the treatment and control groups. Research tool was a Thai traditional dance as an exercise program. Data were collected using a set of questionnaire, and were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, paired samples t-test, independent samples t-test and repeated measure ANOVA. The results showed that after 10 weeks and 16 weeks of dancing exercise, the average score of exercise behaviors in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control (p<0.001); and the average scores of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were lower (p<0.001). Fur-thermore, the average scores of triglycerides and LDL cholest...

Sixty ageing adults with type II diabetes of over 130 mg/dl of blood sugar level and living in Chantha Buri province partici-pated in this study. They were randomly divided equally into treatment and control groups. The study tools were: (1) the self-care and self-regulation program, (2) questionnaires, and (3) blood glucose examina-tion. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test and repeated measure anova. The results showed that the average scores of eating behavior and exercise behavior of the experimental group at the eleventh and sixteenth weeks post-intervention were higher than the average score at before the intervention; and the average blood sugar level post-intervention was lower than that of pre-intervention (p<0.001). This article aims to provide a guide of exercise activity recommended for type 2 diabetes patients, including diagnosis, classification, etiology and treatment of type 2 diabetes. It include a recommendation that patients with type 2 diabetes should practice the moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise at least 150 minutes per week and two or three times of resistance training per week. Benefits of exercise, cautions in exercise, and application of exercise activity based on self- management for type 2 diabetes are also included. Key words: type 2 diabetes, exercise

A biopsychosocial model was tested with 317 community dwelling older adults residing in Chon Buri Province, Thailand. A face-to-face interview was used in a cross-sectional community-based survey. A hypothesized model of depression was tested by using path analysis. It was found that the modified model fitted the data and the predictors accounted for 60% of the variance in depression. Female gender, activities of daily living, loneliness, stressful life events, and emotional-focused coping had a positive direct effect on depression. Social support and problem-focused coping had a negative direct effect on depression. Additionally, perceived stress, stressful life events, loneliness, and income had a negative indirect effect on depression through social support. Female gender, activities of daily living, and perceived stress also had a positive indirect effect on depression through emotional-focused coping. Stressful life events, perceived stress, and income had a negative indirect effect on depression through problem-focused coping. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the variables that predict depression in older adults. Thus, health care providers should consider the effects of these contributing factors on depression in the older adult person and can devise a program to prevent and promote health in older adults alleviating depression.
