This dissertation analyses American Idiot (Green Day, 2004) in terms of its lyircal narrative, political argument, inter-textuality, genre, and visual forms. It aims to uncover new information in each of these areas and various others.

In a modern day western music world, the strength of protest songs (as it always has been) is tested. The social change it is able to produce is disscussed within the essay through the use of secondary research, analysis, and disscussion. The essay concludes the process of how protest music creates social change, which from my research is not in the way the majority audiences assume. Infact, far from it.
