For the most part, as currently conceived, these two online forms of remembering exhibitions embody two very different mentalities. Microsites habitually are generated at the time of an exhibition and are born digital; catalogue raisonnés are generated much later and often rely on analogue precedents for design. In addition to promoting the digitally conceived catalogue raisonné, I urge the dual strategy of maintaining active links to historic microsites and the retroactive creation of new ones as vehicles for rewriting the exhibition history canon. My primary examples are drawn from the Centre Georges Pompidou.

An introduction by Alexander Alberro and Nora M. Alter considers the history of this unconventional and theoretically cutting-edge magazine - bridging theory between Europe and the America at a time when these were still very distinct worlds - and how this anthology constitutes and invaluable document of the changes in both art practice and writing from 1975 to 2000.''-- p. Consideration of what a labyrinthine exhibition actually is, understanding its origins, mapping even a partial corpus, and plotting a provisional history allow us to engage with questions about genre formation and reformulation more generally. To that end, what follows is a discussion of terminology, canon formation, and knowledge production with regard to the labyrinthine exhibition and how new exhibition genres are constituted.
