An exciting week as the #timepix chip, a technology first developed at CERN, takes another #space flight 🚀, this time as part of the Polaris Dawn mission. The mission carries a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration-developed HERA detector, which integrates an ADVACAM-manufactured timepix chip, to monitor and characterise radiation onboard the shuttle. Another meaningful outcome of CERN’s partnership with Czech company ADVACAM Cameras. In the coming years, the demand for #electricvehicles is set to rise, driven by global efforts to cut carbon emissions. This trend highlights an urgent need to advance #battery technology, focusing on improving safety, durability, and charging speed. The Versatile Ultra-Compact Accelerator-based Neutron source (Vulcan) project aims to meet this need through the development of an affordable compact neutron source that can be used by #industry to enhance the longevity and efficiency of lithium-ion batteries. How is CERN involved? This partnership will, among other factors, develop a custom electron linear accelerator based on CERN’s CLIC technology.  Watch DAES SA’s video below to find out more about the project and CERN’s involvement.
